Noticed a few places you could have added some really good fills and the ending may have sounded better with a higher note on the high-hat and snare. Get me? Other than that, you did some fine work with the PR while composing your tune. Good job.
just bought the catalina jazz set online, this video really makes me feel good about the purchase, but of course all the credit goes to the playing :)
Was this the snare that comes with the Catalina Club Jazz kit? I have this kit in silver sparkle and my snare doesn't sound anything close to that. I realize you are mic'd with compression but my snare doesn't seem to get that tight. What heads, snares, etc. are you using on the snare. If it is a different snare, what kind/model is it? Really nice hats. I like all of your cymbals and your technique. Very balanced. Again, good job...
In this video I'm using Evans EC1 Coated on the top of the snare, and a Remo Ambassador Hazy on the bottom. The stock factory snares are also what Im using. I just like my snare head real tight cause i used to play in a marching band on a marching snare and I like the feel. I Posted a new video with a Remo Ambassador Coated on the bottom its a little crisper sounding
Don't know if it's just me, but i kind of feel the snare far away, like it could need a bit more of presence. Other than that, awesome! Keep it up! ;)
How does it feel using double pedal on a 18" kick? I'm playing a Gretsch Renown Jazz, and I'd like to play some faster stuff and ostinatos etc. like Benny Greb. I 'm thinking of the DW9002 pedals... :)
The kick drum sounds huge for an 18". I have it tuned up pretty high for jazz, there is no muffling in it, and the port hole is only 4" to save tone.
As far as heads go on the kick drum they are both stock gretsch factory heads. SInce they sounded good, i found no reason to change them. The beater side is tuned just low enough to create tone while still allowing for a nice slap sound. And the front resonant head is tuned up to a medium tension so it has a nice tone.
Could you possible send me the file for this little grove you've made? It sounds like it was fun to drum to...id like to try it haha...great drumming btw
Incredible video. This really convinced me to purchase the kit. Is there a chance I could download your loop? It is the perfect practice for grooving. Keep 'em coming!
it was a little bit of fooling around on the mixer first, then in garage band i added a tad bit of EQ. Thats it though, these drums sound great on there own!
Good work Dan!!! Very nice chops. What hi hats are you using? Are those Catalina Club Jazz drums? I see you are using A series for ride and K for crash....are those Custom series? Thanks for the help and keep the inspirational videos coming.
The Hi Hats are actually 14" ZHT medium Hi Hats. And yes the kit is a Gretsch Catlina Cub Jazz (14", 12", 14", 18"). The Ride is a 20" A Custom Ping Ride and the right crash is a 18" K Dark Crash.
I love your style. Great drumming. Great sounding kit. I like your cymbals. Thnx for posting and sharing your drumming. Good luck with your garage band. XD
I enjoyed watching that, you made the gretch catalina club snare sound excellent.
