  • I love DF 1 but this really looks shitty ...

  • @Enkidu09 its cause its not runing off the sega saturn but an emulator

  • you don't seem to know how to manage your troops that well...

  • @ZuDuka1 Hey, now, just wait until the game's all in English. ;)

  • @FaustWolf well imo the second fight, i'd have dispersed my soldiers and waited till they were mostly dead and regroop/ that "hold the line" thing, then attacked the gen. but i have yet to play this so it's all good

i just hope that a traslated version does come out!

  • english.. U_u

  • lmao, at 2:08 it looks like dhalsim

  • is there a way to get this game in english?

  • @darkninja0200 Not yet ;) Check out some of the more recent videos on this Youtube channel.

  • looks like the battles are more engaging in this one! isn't it a bit more choppy though?

  • @Alianger Battles are way better in this than in the original IMO, thanks to the multiple troop types and the depth that adds to the game. The choppiness is due to the slower PC I had back when I recorded this. CamStudio eats up a ton of memory, as does the SSF Saturn emulator. I'm hoping the next preview won't turn out quite so choppy...looks beautiful in motion when you don't have other programs competing with SSF for memory.

  • Huge thanks for this video. I may have to give the game a go with this in hand :]

  • Yeah, the one thing I was a bit disappointed with at first was the AI of the CPU-controlled nations. Don't worry, there's a part in the game where this totally changes, and it gets really tough.

  • @LordofDarkness70

When you write "4th and 5th from General List," do you mean an in-battle command menu, or is this something in the domestics mode you're trying to figure out?

Shen's talking dog is awesome, it apparently knows the history of the world better than any other character...somehow.

  • wow.

props on the mini tut. ever since i played DF 1 on my cousin Saturn, ive been hooked on it. to me its probably the best strategyRPG. i even found the rom n been playing it. tho i wish they would have release DF 2. but still thanks for the video. finally got a chance to see how DF 2 is like.

  • If you're lucky you might be able to track down a copy on Ebay for around $45. An English fan translation should be somewhere down the road now that some Dragon Force fans have banded together to complete this. I'm projecting this will happen within two years, barring huge setbacks.

  • Damn i hope so. Hopefully they do an update on the graphics and the characters as well. Since it doesn't look as good as the first DF.

  • It's just a different graphical style - a little darker, but the characters are actually more interesting.

  • I actually own this game, but I didn't put much time into it. I was able to figure out the basics from trial and error. If you know Dragon Force 1, 2 should come natural.

The only thing is, DF2 is DIFFICULT. And not fun difficult, like storming Fandaria with Reinhart and a few mages.

Unfair difficult. Castles full of 500 demon soldiers that you can't touch, and prevent further progress difficult.

  • The game being in Japanese probably makes the English player unaware of certain nuances. If you storm the demon forts with Cavalry, you've got it made!

  • Actually, it's fairly easy. For one, you don't need to train up the "Dragon Force" as in DF1; you can use any officers you want, for the most part. Taking cavalry and mage troops and grinding in caves can build up your levels and alchemy mats also - rather easily, since Ogre troops are horribly weak against cavalry and mages.

The insanely loaded castles are there to encourage you to go the other way, or find story advancement by some other means.

  • There was one point in my trial campaign(Tradnor) that those castles stopped me from making progress, unless there was an alternate route I didn't know about.

  • Yes, Sixfortyfive and the translator he paired up with had a game image on hand and converted the files on the disc to a .BIN/.CUE (basically a digital copy of the game). If you have all the game's files, you can rebuild the game from the ground up in a program called UltraISO, and play the game image in an emulator or maybe even burn it to CD and play it on a modded Saturn (I have no clue about the latter process).

  • Oh, what emulator do you use? All the ones I tried using were extremely difficult and I never got it working. Partly because some of it was in a different language. (French I think)

  • Dragon Force II works partially on Yabause, and about 95% correctly on SSF version 0.10 for me. Even SSF is unstable, but it's your best bet.

  • Despite what's in the video description for this, I was recently informed that all the in-game text is actually uncompressed. Sounds like opportunity. If anyone's interested in a Dragon Force II translation project shoot me a message here on Youtube.

  • I would KILL for a translation for this game! Mainly just so it would be easier to play. The story would be nice too.

  • Check out the GameFAQs Dragon Force board (first game -- second game's board is dead). Sixfortyfive actually has the general names, buildings, and troop types in English, and I've even played the game with his files and it works beautifully! You can see pics there in the forum; Camstudio's been crapping out on me lately.

Current focus is on finding how the dialogue is compressed; it is indeed compressed, agh.

  • I didn't see any links to pics in the game faqs forum. How would I go about using the files to play the game?

p.s I looked up some Japanese tutors in my area and if all goes according to plan, I'm planning on learning the language once I graduate college in December.

  • Ok I take that back, I found the images. But are you using an emulator with a ROM version of the game to do all this translation work?

  • It'll take a while mate and huge dedication. It's no Spanish but it's probably easier than most other Asian languages. Good luck with those kanji! :P
