How does the motor fair after all the sand runs? It pretty durable?
I was thinking about upgrading my xl-5 rustler to the Velineon system and getting some paddles so I can go play at the beach but I also don't want to ruin it after just a few runs.
@pickmeOMGpickme well i punished it for over a year didnt take care of it at all and think its still goin but my slash one died with out any hard work !! go for it youll love it!!!
@mikevaneck1 Aha that's good to hear. Should be getting my Velineon in a couple days. Anything happens I'll just go with the cheaper Castle setup next time around.
hey mate im getting a rustler but im new to off road rc cars so i need some help, will i have to change anything/add anything to it when i take it on holiday to go on sand or will it be fine on deep sand anyway ?
@acedheroHD hey mate these things are awesome in the sand stock !! i put paddle tires on just for the extra fun factor but i ran this car without them for ages heaps of fun !! i would not recommend paddles on the brushed models as it would tend to over heat the motor. Have fun man !!!
@sincitystealth well im in australia and i got ripped the charger was like $90 or $100 and the battery was like $150 so yeah but you can cheaper stuff on the net but might be unreliable dunno.
Sand has no cohesion (doesn't stick to itself) so when a tire pushes against it it acts like a fluid. So I'm pretty sure you would find that the force is from accelerating the sand out the back and not from a friction grip. Like a boat propeller. Anyway......
Sand composition varies but every sand I've ever dragged a magnet through picks up black iron filings. Here in New Zealand we have beaches that have so much iron in the sand that they make steel out of it.
I've just realized that those paddle tires don't actually have "traction" in sand, they work more like a rocket engine, throwing sand out the back and being thrust forward by the reactive force.
F=MA
You can see the sand coming out in little "packets", one for each paddle on the tire.
Interesting.
I'm wondering how long the motor will last in sand because there's a lot of iron filings in sand that would stick to the magnets on the motor and if any of those got inside, game over.
well i dont know about that they seem to pushing the car by means of friction meh!
Ok ive heard this allot but what iron filings are you talking about ?? its just beach sand as far as im concerned ?? it spent most of its life in the sand its runnin fine oh and the motor is sealed.
