@PrimaGymnast47 somalis are alot of things. they are politically and ethnically arabic. we are situated in africa. they are mixed (black/white)somewhere along the lines as it is said. they are somewhat caucausian just like arabs. we speak two languages, arabic and somali. it is very rare to find a somali who does not speak arabic or some arabic. however, to save all this trouble, somalis are somalis which is actually a penisula just like the arab penisula. (horn of africa)
I honestly think other factors are more important than the GDP, as in inflation, commodities prices, social disparities and education (literacy rate).
The main problem in the Arab world is the combination of extreme radical Islamic + Arabian culture and tradition that prevents them to establish any form of democracy or civilized regime. It's not a chance that for more than 80 years there is NOT ONE Arab democracy in the world. Arab countries are mostly corrupted, violent, supporting terrorism, poor, primitive.
Why can't Arabs all go back to Saudi-Arabia? The problem of the Arab is that they try to spread to places they don't belong... and then try to occupy them, and also act in violence towards those who resist them... Syria, Egypt, Lebanon, Israel, Libya - were never "Arab" originally... they simply occupied these lands and forced themselves on the local population there... now they are doing the same thing in Europe and trying to turn Europe into Arabia.. what will be the end???
The Arab world features the greatest concentration of fascist-like regimes ever seen in one geographic location. This is a powder-keg. The outcome will be a regional war, not some silly demonstrations.
@nural666 Of course Lebanon is a Democratic Country! And we are very proud to be one. Lebanon is the only arab country with a Christian leader. Your prob. still in the 8th grade still studying history. And we don't say "Fuck the President" We love our president, we say fuck our goverment instead.
@lebanese996 - not only Lebanon is not a democracy, it's not even a real country. Lebanon had been controlled by other countries (France, Iran, Syria, Israel) and was never free and independent. Today Lebanon is a concentration base of terror, radical-Islam, and war. Hezbollah, one of the most fanatic Islamic groups, has taken over, and is armed with thousands of missiles and rockets - more than what some big European countries have. Christians are runing from Lebanon, moving to Europe & USA.
Says who ? Arab is not from Arabia only !! Arab = Any country or people who are speaking Arabic and a mother language and that culture/nation has been impacted by the Arabic culture for long time'
You retarded insure person ? lol. you commented I comment you bad ? How can I be mad :) ? the phrase " You mad " was not used .. let us say .. right here :)
anyways, I'm not Somali. I'm from Qatar in Arabia. and somalis are Arabs by culture. and MANY of them are Mixed. not pure blacks
So, killing off all young people would solve all their problems? It didn't work in the movie Children of Men. Also, I have a really hard time believing religion plays no part in this at all, considering how heavily Islamic all those countries are. I'm just saying, they didn't have this many problems back in the Zoroastrian days.
Check out my channel, tons of free US military videos and real war footage. A place to discuss, view, and get news/updates on the current US war effort. Please subscribe.
How about including the ratio of 'population that does their own work vs number of foreign workers'? Many of these oil-rich countries have a large number of non-resident aliens doing their service work for them, much like many in the US want to achieve via legalization (amnesty) for illegals. That might skew your little chart a bit.
"Income inequality" is a bullshit fairytale that only exists to rile Useful Idiots like yourself to tear down a functioning (aka Western) society. Even if there were no governments, no money, or no mediums of exchange, no two people would have the same income. Income inequality is the result of our skills, traits, and choices. If you oppose "income inequality" you oppose humanity. And given the track record of Marxists that much should be obvious. Marxists have murdered more than any other.
@thebestsumoeva Just GDP doesn't say much on its own, does it!? A metric of income distribution is a necessary complement to GDP if we are to arrive at a somewhat robust estimate of social instability. Societies with a large income gap tend to be more unstable. That was the point but I don't know :)I am not an economist.
I listen to the a few programs on Galei Tzahal and they brought experts on the subject. One of them said That the countries where its dictators do reforms to give the people more freedom are more likely to fall than ones who keeps a strict hold of power.
You give them a finger and they want the whole hand. As the amount freedom raised it's more likely the country would have a revolution. If you keep your people working 15 hours a day they won't have time to do anything other than sleep.
Two more comments: lack of democracy factor: I think the report forgot to add this factor to the total on Lebanon bar. Furthermore, regarding the Years in Power factor, I think it is misleading to consider the period of the unconstitutional monarchies as starting from the present ruler. I think it should start from the date of establishing those dynasties. the same with Syria which I think that we should consider the same ruler is in power since 1968 when the father took over
The report did not considered the ruthless of the regimes nor the unemployment rate. I also do not thing that the weighing percentages the report considered were correct
@IraqFalcon Ah! I'm so sorry! I'd like to pride myself in showing alot of interest in what's going on in that part of the world so as not to be ignorant. I clearly AM still ignorant, of course Iranians are Persians! Again, I apologize!
Oman is the most stable country in the Arab World. But there are some small uneducated stupid group of people who distort the beauty of this country. Oil and Gas reserves are not as high as UAE, Qatar, KSA, and Kuwait. So Oman should diversify the source of income. SWOT analysis on Tourism in Oman is very favorable, what Oman need now is start developing sectors like education and open up the country even more instead of focusing on stupid rules regarding dress codes in certain areas.
@growyourownmeal Only one was dead and shot by a rubber bullet. But after what? A group of thugs were storming police stations, burning shopping centers, burning cars, burning governments and private buildings, beating foreigners and smashing their cars, and blocking the main road, and blocking entry and exit at a major oil refinery. They burned a whole hypermarket search: "Lulu Sohar". This is no peaceful protests and the rubber bullet was not intended to kill the kid but unfortunately it did.
i can see from this study that Yemen is the most unstable country in the arab world which leads to make the regime down soon ...hope we can change this to better
This is a stupid chart. the way they apreciated the influence of different factors appears arbitrary. And the factors themselves are incomplete. For example geography and demography play a major role to assess the vulnerability to unrest. Saudi-Arabia is an oasis country and there are Arab countries that arent ruled by a family but by an ethnic minority.
This is interested because I was going to write a paper for my politics class on this same issue what factors led up to a transformation like we have been seeing
Also grew up in Oman, and lived there again until 2008. Agree widely that there is love of the Sultan, but there are elements of the population who are not benefiting as widely as others, a trip to Mawaleh on the outskirts of Muscat is quite an eye-opener for many expats
What about satisfaction of people with their ruler!?
I have stayed in Oman for 15 years and the Sultan was and still is very well respected and loved by the people. Don't see this happening in Oman during the Sultan's regime.

very inacurate list. i can only speak about oman whom everybody knows in this reigon has made the most strides over 40 years in the middle east with the most stable economy even during the last recession yet has modest natural resources in comparison to other GCC countries. the majority of the population is in strong support of its sultan yet we see it here at number 6.
before you talk about Arab countries, check out how America is, you life, your poverty, ppl on the streets and your prisons and police brutality on how they treat their own brothers in the prisons talk about people who dont have insurance and ppl denied health care there, racism is still ongoing. Talk about how u suffer in the global crisis. nothing more to say about your Illuminati-controlled life. everything you're talking about is just empty of evidence, come with real facts if you have peace
@sugahoneyboy they did, every week if you subscribe to the economist, and economist is from UK not america. and how come it is empty of evidence when they serve data from facts
Oh, come on! There is a good reason for all of these factors to be included. But what about the ones that are omitted? To take the most trivial example: GDP! OK! But disregarding income inequality?!!!
@stay1n Income inequality is a bs measurement. If we used it as a metric it would be ok for people to starve to death so long as everyone is starving to death equally.
@stay1n - You're completely wrong. The fact that you're getting thumbs up means this is indoctrination. "But income inequality?!!!" Since you're indoctrinated it's impossible for you to understand that no two human beings produce the exact same amount for the whole of their existence. It's easy to see from your multiple exclamation marks that you're a Leftist. First of all you're screaming about inequality as if all humans are perfectly and easily quantifiable. Second, you're screaming.
the population figures shown in the chart are of 1970 UN consensus!
it's 2011 now ...yes sorry to break the bubble, but it really is 2011 and the population figures of all the countries shown in the chart have doubled since.
I wonder if its correlated in any way to artificially low interest rates and rampart currency debasement - supported in numerous articles by The Economist - causing the carry trade, an enormous spike in commodity and food prices, hurting the poor and acting as a significant trigger?
I have to agree with what they came up with. I knew that omething would happen after Tunisia, but what has happened sents then has been more then I though would happen. I wouldn't be supprised in more then just the top four had regime changes, considering what's been happening.
