  • @MrRogsmart ,it's my pleasure,THANKS

  • Rather than going through all of this, why didn't the producer just let the singer go to the restroom?

  • Hi SWEET, I TRULY hope you're both alright.....I NEED SOME MORE TIME SWEET.....I've got a thousand thoughts going through my head at the moment & I just don't know what to do for the best.....NOT FOR ME.....BUT WHAT (I THINK) WILL BE BEST FOR YOU & IF I'M HONEST WITH MYSELF.....I think there is only ONE OPTION open to me.....I DO LOVE YOU SWEET.....TTFN.....FYFD♥♥♥.....P.S, PLEASE don't think I'm TAKING THE MICKEY, when I say (the both of you).....YOU KNOW I MEAN IT, I ONLY WANT THE BEST FOR YOU

  • I keep hearing this song on an ad and had to hunt it down. Always loved it. Beat, lyrics, music... the whole thing.

  • Heard this song for the first time on the radio about 6 months ago. I was born in 87' but its so cool to here the dynamic range of the singers from the bands like this including them. I really enjoy listening to this song... I'm in a reggae band and look for all sorts of influences.

  • too right they were better days when we were young

  • What a great tune. Makes me smile big time!!!! Reminds me of much better days.

  • Takes me back to when I was a kid....Thanks!

  • I was about 5 when this great song was out...it reminds me of my oldest brother flinging the 45 across the room because he found out he "had to get married" and had no more time! HA!!!

    He still hates the song.

  • Great song. I don't know why the stereo mix (this mix) goes to the mono mix from 2:08 - 2:25. I have always noticed this when "Gold FM" play it. Possibly between mixing it in mono till the stereo version, the master tape was damaged at that point, as there could have been quite a period between the two mixes. Thanks for this.

  • Bucu memories of Myrtle Beach & OD........Thanx so much ~ shagging still :-)

  • This absolute classic was actually written by the legendary Holland-Dozier-Holland team who were still at this time in contractual dispute with Berry Gordy at Motown. Doesn't the General sound so fresh, vibrant and soulful here? Check out the Invictus/Hot Wax vaults from the early 1970s, so many soul gems it seems criminal.

  • 2.10 - 2.24 should be cut and dropped in a dj set. the big rumblin' bass would sound amazing over a big sound system.

  • Ahhhh...AM top 40 at it's best... Happy memories of hearing this booming out of the radio of our Dodge Coronet wagon in 1970...

  • Wonderful....

  • Do you think they said "it needs a little something at the end of the song" so at minute 2:16 they added that special something.

  • YES

  • Great song!!!!!!!

  • @SuperSpencer05 ,,it's my pleasure.thanks

  • I've go the single , those were the days ! ! !

  • I have to say that when this came out I was heading for different music. But good, upbeat music is so good! I liked the 'video' shown on the tube, I like Mr Johnson's voice, I like the big production sound. It still gets me pretty happy.

  • Give me it just one m0:00re time!

  • I'm not going to compare this to modern top 40 songs. I'm not going to denounce an entire generation. I'm not going to act like I'm the shit because I don't like modern top 40 music. I'm just going to say this:

God damn this song is awesome. I can see why this is played on classic radio stations.

  • lived in myrtle bch..I went to jr college in conway sc, and we used to go to cherry grove to hear them...gosh..still love this music...can you shag???? I am......

  • 2:16 Brrrtt...... love it : )

  • This song reminds me of my ex so much, if you've ever asked for a little more time thumbs up :-/

  • His voice isn't exactly the greatest...but you actually feel the emotion.

You believe it is an anguished man begging his love for another chance.

  • Man does this bring back the memories. The war, the riots, assassinations. Impossible to listen to it and not remember the turmoil, the guys not around any more. Can't tear myself away from listening to it over and over.

  • from the heart. feels like its a message to someone instead of just a song to make money

  • เพรามากอ่ะ

  • @GodmodeUK ,,,it's my pleasure..

  • Thanks for this one. A timeless classic. General Johnson...sadly missed.

  • @Steelriverboy ,,,it's my pleasure..

  • What a wonderful song! The background singers with Chairmen Of The Board Joyce Vincent, Telma Hopkins and Pam Vincent! They did all of there Invictus label music and pretty but all the people that sang on Invictus label like Freda Payne the Song Band Of Gold, and they did all Hot Wax label. Then they become Dawn of Tony Orlando! I hope on day the would reunite with the Chairmen Of The Board. Joyce, is on a new group called: Tour DE 4Force and she is also on the Former Ladies Of The Supremes.

  • @trespride It was no coincidence that bassist Bob Babbitt also played on Freda's Band of Gold and some of the Tony Orlando & Dawn tunes. He had the Funk sound mastered!!!

  • 2:16!!!! LMAO!!! ;) BDRRRRRRRRRRR STICKA!!!!!!!

  • I always figured this for a Holland-Dozier-Holland number...turns out I was right. Great tune!

  • Saw The Chairman live down at Chelsea Village when we were on Honeymoon - our alltime favourite - we were both Skins then and loving every minute.

  • luv it i was dancin in pebbles disco in the 70's a skinhead stompin tune thanx itunes

  • @sandy6719 ,,,it's my pleasure..

  • If Holland-Dozier-Holland had still been with Motown, they most certainly would have given this song to The Four Tops. Notice the similarity of the pleading style by lead singer General Johnson and the Tops lead singer Levi Stubbs. It was a mistake many of us made when the record was released.

  • You can hear Holland -Dozier_Holland all over this one.

  • wooo tbag

  • @XxRMH09xX haha thats why i came here. lol

  • Why didn't the engineer let the singer go to the restroom before taping?

  • Man, what a vocal performance....he just displays the most soulful plea with his voice.

  • Such an amazing song! It is timeless and its lyrics will apply to anyone in any generation. A credit to what is in my opinion the golden generation of music. Thank you for adding this!

  • @T34M43 ,, it's my pleasure .thanks

  • This song and all the other Chairman Of The Board songs remind me so much of my youth. They all sound just as brilliant and exciting now, as they did back then. Thanks for the memories.

  • @PonytailRuth .it's my pleasure

  • Just found out that General Norman Johnson died last month. RIP General.

A fantastic voice. I'm sad that a never had the opportunity to go to a concert.

  • Notice the stereo mix go "
