I would love to love Katy all the time, but I can't. Having said that - this is incredible. Maybe we need to just let her do what she seems to be best at - incredible vocals and guitar...I would gladly pay to see an evening of this.
Just want to settle this argument I saw a couple tabs back...she is definitely in key. This is coming from a music professional with perfect pitch. There is a few slightly under/high tones but that's just to be expected of the human voice, it even happens to the best of the best and especially when you're "riffing". She stays in relative key the entire song. Pretty good performance too, her belts are great imo, they have attitude, and that's entertaining.
How sad that female songwriters can't even act real like this anymore...they have to act crazy and slutty and inject their songs full of autotune to get noticed. -_-

There's a big difference between being on key and singing well. This video actually improved my opinion of Katy Perry... she actually has some feeling in her vocals.

She sounds great. But even when she doesn't, I still think she's good. And no it's not because I'm "biased". I feel that you don't have to be a great singer to make good music. Legends Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Johnny Cash, etc. Did they have good singing voices? No. They didn't sound bad by any means, but they wouldn't pass American Idol. It was all about the music. Obviously if you sound like a dying animal, you shouldn't sing. But I think people who say that about KP are the "biased" ones.

@ROCKkitten i am too! haha this is the first time that her voice hasn't cracked. she's also not horribly off-key. i'm tired of hearing her shout through "fireworks" so it was nicer to hear this. she shouldn't do the type of songs that she does now b/c they are out of her vocal range. i'm also shocked that she use to wear her real hair. that's kind of refreshing and i'm not sure why she changed that to suit the masses

There's a big difference between being on key and singing well. This video actually improved my opinion of Katy Perry... she actually has some feeling in her vocals.
Take me as an example - I can sing more or less on key, but can't pull off anything more than backing vocals, because I just can't convey emotion or feeling properly...

@stupidzhangjiayi are you tone deaf? you must have some sort of perfect pitch that no one else has... she's def singing in the correct and same key as her instrument... i have perfect pitch and i attest to that! sure she had some off notes, and almost every performer has them i have yet to hear a perfect performance but overall this was good and probably waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than anything your sorry ass could sing or play at the same time!

@interstones this song is slower than tje oroginal, and many artists don't sing the song in the same way they do on the CD. She's onbeat to the guitar.

@stupidzhangjiayi the correct term would be "in key", and yes, she is. you're implicating she's singing the entire song in a wrong key, which would be an AMAZING accomplishment while playing guitar part in the right key, not to be confused with being off-key or pitch.

Okay, WTF. I'll admit, I didn't really like Katy Perry for a while because I thought she was all autotuned and I had no clue she wrote her own songs. I thought she was just one of those girls who gained fame because of her looks. But after watching this and finding out she writes her own songs, I have a lot of repsect for her. I wish they'd let her alone with her guitar. You can totally tell she doesn't enjoy performing the way she does, all crazy & whatnot. I actually feel kinda bad for her.

@DearNGuyo people don't say she can't sing, children do!! This is a singer songwriter type song showing her as a skilled artisan just like thinking of you.
what I have seen from this time period is Katy and her record company trying out different looks and song types to see what works best but this cycle of kids just aren't adult enough for these songs thats why the kids in the audience didn't like the your not a man your a boy lyrics and were lacking in applause after the song was over!!
