"I have a Remington Model 597LR ...I also bought the Volquartsen Target Hammer and Volquartsen Extractor ..changed the Hammer...when it came to the Extractor in would not fit. so I called my buddy that is a Gunsmith ..he tried he could not get it in...so I put the factory one back in...called Volquartsen they said send it to them they wanted to see it..so I sent it back.

i bought one these last year , very happy with it . i bought cci ammo , very happy with that as well . bone stock , no problems. there is a few places to polish that are outlined in a video series here on youtube ( bolt , guide rods , hammer) but if you have no problems and shoot good ammo , no mods are needed . cheers =)

@isofaster See you got real real lucky brother! I absolutely needed the VQ Extractor... and I figured I would do the Hammer while I was at it, and MAN did it make a difference!!! And the best part is, now it will shoot and shoot fast and reliably Federal Bulk 525 pack.. BUT ten you put in CCI Standard Velocity , AMAZING accuracy. Mini Mags = PERFECT for hunting. If you take care of this rifle, IT WILL take care of you!!!

nice review, i got the the same 22 myself, i got the target hammer in mine also and i have the edge extractor too but im yet to put the extractor in as i havent had may ammo issues, i mainly just use cci

@murdzilla Thanks much for the compliment and view. Now I agree I love CCI and its great ammo. And hey if you ain't havin trouble then why mess with it right ? LOL. You're lucky tho. The Achillies Heel to the Remington 597 is the extraction. And for me, my rifle SUCKED at this problem right out of the get go. I mean unshootable/unusable. The upgrade made such a huge difference I just cannot say enough. Now I can shoot ANY AMMO but I use Federal or CCI almost exclusively. Thanks bro!!

@DirtyJ78 Some people spend hundreds on computers, even though a cheap one will still play games. Some people spend thousands of dollars on cars, when a second hand Honda will get you to work and back just fine. Some people spend tens of thousands on boats, when you can just go buy a fish from the supermarket. If somebody - with a job and not living in a third-world country, no less - wants to put $160 into a hobby project gun... so what?

Awesome rifle and if you can shoot the 500-ish bulk packs then you're golden, it's great value. -- Re- the Volquartsen Target Hammer is amazing. Basically it reduces the trigger pull by literally 50%, eliminates any creep/wobble, makes the trigger pull break like glass, perfectly, and increases your accuracy and rate of fire. And IT'S ONLY $40BUCKS! For $40 and the absolutely necessary $20 Edge Extractor, you're GOLDEN!

i guess so, i think they did a slight revision on newer models(mine's late 2010 FLX) so they are more reliable then the older ones that gave the 597 its bad reputation

i'm defiantly going to have to order the hammer and extractor once i get a job or just a little extra cash. i just ordered a butler creek side folder(will be modded to fit) and a weaver rail because i can't stand the factory iron sights...

When I say around the 2 minute mark, "I DID NOT WANT a "Remington 10/22", I am very ANTI "Remington 10/22" I clearly had a misspeak and I meant to say *RUGER 10/22* -- absolutely PRO REMINGTON anti 10/22, somewhat Anti Ruger. Don't want to debate it I am just stating my factual opinion.
