  • this is a pretty stupid test. its was supposed to be sound but they still involved sight.

  • ...and still do pretty decent

  • then why is it possible to practice with music when your just taking shots?

  • Heavy metal and clowns, two things I never thought I would see together.

  • The test was very inaccurate. They may have wanted a better selection of shooters. For instance, Ray Allen has way more experience with free throws and could have possibly altered the results. In addition they never separated the visual and sound test.

  • It's stupid because with that rocking music I would be more relax and less distracted.

  • he mite be missing on purpose

  • not big enough sample size or control, lame episode

  • mate, if your mind is in the game

    then NOTHING can distract you

  • i love how they just keep on burning shaq about his free throws

  • This is fail. They are playing music. The brain adapts to the melodic patterns and rhythms so this is fail if its loud it has to be noise

  • Bell center had 133 decibel game 6 habs vs penguins (from the RDS commentator)

  • Arco Arena? Not anymore, lol.

  • they should have gotten different shooters

  • how do these guys call themselves scientists

they should have at least done 50 freethrows each time

  • they should put some sexy cheerleaders stand naked in front of the basket

  • @mythhunter8 i like that. maybe the new york knicks chearleaders

  • you seriously watched this and could not figure out the name of the band

  • why??

  • The experiment is flawed in not separating sound from visual. The last series involved both, and thus it isn't accurate to say sound as more effective.

  • tropicana field measured 120db in the playoffs..

  • In order to really test the audio vs visual aspect of distraction they should have isolated each. Visual with NO audio, audio with NO visual, check the stats after that test and you'll have more accurate results.

Oh, and Throttle is spelled with an H, unless you're from Brooklyn, in which case NOTHING is spelled with an H

  • They also needed more free throws. 10 isn't a great baseline... a 90% free throw shooter could randomly miss 3 of 10 and suddenly his baseline is 70%. Likewise, there should've been either more free throws or more free throwers to make this study more accurate.

  • I agree... poor experiment design, and a small "random sample"... -> Not enough to conclude much.

  • @DRT49

    Win

  • name of the group?guys who play metal

  • Trottle

  • shouldnt the call someone from the nba? been in the whatever arena? a great free though takes like r.allen or billups or whoever

  • i would bang that tall clown

  • Brandon Heath is now a Laker just signed today! Averaging 25 pts in France and shooting 80% from the freethrow line.Welcome to L.A. Brandon,Go Lakers!

  • The so called "Audio Distraction" included visual too.

    ??

  • yes, they are ugly

  • "He is still better than Shaq."

    lol

  • that song kicks ass wats it called?

  • While these tests hint towards a relation between distraction and miss rate, the circumstances of the test (visual and auditorial distraction in both tries) together with the low amount of throws don't prove at all wich distraction has more influence. Also they completely leave out the psycholigical effect of the distraction, i.e. the sexy clown breathing on your neck is neither visual nor auditorial distraction, the singer is telling him that "you will miss".

  • I agree with you. Things should have been completely mute, with the first test, and there shouldn't have been a thing in sight, for the second one.

In all actuality, sight distractions caused more innacuracy than hearing--Sight distractions dropped his percentage by twenty percent, and since there were still visual distractions in the second experiment, this means that sound only dropped his accuracy by ten percent.

Also, that old guy making so many baskets is amazing. ._.

  • yeah, i agree with u too.i love thys show but thys has GOT to be one of the most relatively irrelevant way to test ft percentage.first of all, the first visual test had noise in it, mostly likely random noise at that.and the audio test was just stupid.why would u let the ppl ON TO the court where they would never be.that just blew that test out of proportion.and the clowns were a bit much.also the metal band shouldn't have been used, such a wrong type of audio.music is MUCH different from noise.

  • Any idea where i could find a clip of the two coaches, one passive and one aggressive, yelling? I thought it was this episode
