No it's not, these last days i'm working on his video where he explains Guitar Boogie, 1:13~1:23 just look hard but it's just chords, like 8-8-6~at G,B,e chords, slide 1 fret, two hits in the E7, same slide, then 4-5~middle chords sliding 1 fret. then 6-7-8 at GBe slide 1 fret and hit 1 time at 9 10 & 11 frets the B chord shape, then back to first slide, and done. :D Hope you understood.
The ending of the solo is a pretty fast rush, a lot harder to time and hit the notes right.
@Drenius I guess it's just that I come from a rock background so the fast picked notes of the end of the solo are the norm for me. However the phrasing and feel of the section I mentioned is tricky with sliding the chords, but then I'm not used to this style of playing. Tommy is an inspiration to me, he almost single-handedly got me interested in acoustic finger/hybrid picking style guitar playing.
@davedagreat69 BTW before anyone points it out, I am fully aware that this particular piece is entirely picked. The last part of my comment is just a general statement. ;)
So you know what i mean? I just have a passion for the Acoustic Guitar and TE is one hell of a inspiration. 1 month ago i was having a hard time to learn the original Classical Gas, now i got most of it. I would try TE's version but i can't find a decent tab/video/lesson/anything to learn it so i stick with the original.
If you really want it, and you really try it, you get it :).
Not that i'm saying you just can't, but i think it's good that any who can read this learn this :D
@Drenius and BTW, I say never duplicated, not because it's impossible, but because TE is an improvisational natural. He will get up on stage and play this song 10 times, 10 different ways and it will sound on-key like it was a different piece he wrote and mastered each time.
No amount of reading tablature or watching explanations in a year's, or even 5 years worth of playing time will give you that kind of ability.
Yes, but normally he improvise in the middle of the song, the only thing that changes is some different passages that he choses, i could explain but i won't, too hard from here. But you can see by watching he videos, and learning it. I know that here he teaches 1 way but in the other video at the same 'cenario' where he goes full speed he plays somethings different, also in the 3:51 video and the 7:00 min video. But you can realize, and still learn it.
I said those because i can have something to start on, then i watch the videos and learn my own way,
my smooth sound, not his sound, but mine, wich is better than just souless-playing it. Anybody that know improvisation can make a good play of this song, just put something in the middle that you like (& fits) it's not that hard.
Course you'll never execute like him, but like you, and that's 'better', cuz it's different. No one's the same in guitar, and that's what's good about it.
@Drenius That's nice man, I understand everyone has their own style. TE's style is anything but 'easy' though, maybe you should record yourself playing it, then you will realize all the subtle things that make his music sound great. ; )
Yes, i will soon, i don't like to 'perform' anything until i think "damn, i would pay to see me playing". If you know what i mean, i'm very hard with that kind of thing. But i'll do it soon :D.
I get it, but it's never so hard if you really try. After i found the slow video of this, i'm playing along the video everyday for a good time, crazy for learning this song. I already got all the sections until the solo, and that ending is all i need to nail the solo, and i also got the sliding part. The others i'll work on some other time. But the deal is that i'm self-taught, 1 year ago i barely could make a chord, and now i'm almost nailing Guitar Boogie from TE!
@Drenius Learning the tabs and actually executing it the way TE plays his pieces are two completely different things. Yeah, he slows it down for you, but there is a lot going on beyond knowing what notes to play that gives his pieces a unique style that's often intimidated but never duplicated.
@ToliniDan It's not that hard? HAHA, he offers the tab, music, along with a midi file and a video explanation. Go ahead, try to learn it and play it like him. He makes it look easy, but trust me, it's not.
@SuperSparkyMark1 tabpigs . org/thetabs/tommy.html (remove the space between the dot). That's his official tab for when he played live at the sheldon, which is this version.
watch?v=JNZL7GkqeRI
The thing with Tommy E is he lives to improvise! So, every time he performs this piece it's slightly different. Good luck, I've been practicing it for about a month, I got the basic rhythm, but getting the transitions as smooth as him is a lot harder than it looks.
@svt11111 I'd have to agree with svt11111, even with a explanation vid and very nice tabs I couldn't even get a tenth of this song down right.. Classical Gas is not a particular hard TE song to play, that one is only hard to perform well..
actually tommy is a prodigy... he had a gibson in his hands at age 5. I've seen some footage of him in his teens and still absolutely amazing, you wouldn't know the difference.
