  • Didnt you work in special FX withs Star Wars Episode 3?

  • "Korriban. World of the Sith."

You guys should make a fanfilm of either the Legacy or KotOR eras!

  • Excelente felicidades

  • You shuld make the next star wars movie! The continuing of 7

  • haha very nice ryan! CC Sphere. man, this makes me notice how much i need a new pc and start using after effects again.

  • looks like Tatooine...

  • Very nice effort. Looks very good, but i expected it to be good since you made it Ryan

  • Cool effect with a great result. The method you describe is almost the same I used to do an After Effects planet blow-up video I've uploaded here (minus the whole NASA images thing). I suppose that great minds work similar. ;-)

  • hey very nice any chance of a tutorial for this?

  • Also very nice. You might have to do some tutorials for this one.. haha. I'll stick to 3D for creating planets. Also you should do a tutorial for editing out things that you don't want in your shot.. I've done it but had problems with it not quite looking right. but acceptable.

  • Very nice. Were you using something like "shine" to illuminate it, or was the light and shadow part of the original shots?

  • i love your work man, you're the guy who first got me really into doing effects and i'm now looking at getting into it for a career. i'm trying to get into doing some of the fan effects for RvB2.

oh and this is soo awesome.

  • Looks great!

  • Its very cool

The atmosphere looks pretty good =)

    I really like your effectswork.

  • man u r awesome! this looks rlly good! haha now to figure this out without a tut

  • That is pretty dang cool. :)

  • Brilliant!

  • I have two things to say. One, this is pure awesomeness. And two, i would not make the planet spin as fast. Just me saying, but you don't have to listen to me.

  • Nah, I agree with that too, actually. As this was a test, I wanted to rotate the planet as much as I thought I could ever need to in 1 shot; the most extreme example. When I used this setup in an actual shot, it was more subtle.

  • o. Cool. i understand now.

  • Yeah... To be honest, I had no idea Andrew Kramer made a planet tutorial. ...and I still have not bothered to go look. Kids, you don't need a tutorial for everything. Explore the tools and functionality of your application and challenge yourself to think of interesting ways to use them.

  • I take it this was a reply to my comment (not showing up as that though, so I'll take it as an indirect reply), but I'm just pulling your leg man ;)

I'm honestly surprised nobody has said that, and actually meant it so far.

  • Korriban*

  • Looks like Krriban-like planet.

  • That's awesome.

  • Looks good! You forgot that you wouldn't see the stars though. ;-)

  • You actually shouldn't see the dark side of the planet either, realistically ;) But uh, the compression was weird when uploading this, the gamma came way up. I generally prefer the stars to be pretty dim, the dark side of the planet to be pretty moody. So this whole thing actually looks brighter than I'd like. But it's just a test.

  • That frustrates the crud out of me. I just did something similar this morning and went to upload it and I see this in my subscribed vids and it's better than mine! :P

  • ANDREW KRAMER!!! ;)

Couldn't resist being an a-hole. Good job.

  • Pretty cool!

  • Really Great!!!

  • Nice one ^^

  • wow! I was pleasantly surprised. I thought this would be a rip off of Andrew Kramer's 3D Planet, but this was fresh and awesome! Great job.

  • Amazing Mr. Wieber
