  • Wonderful!

  • I wish trains today were this glamerous!

  • lovely loco

  • 104? she touched 112 twice on that trip as the commentary says.

  • @gibbon92 Oops! My mistake - sorry!

  • Shame Silverlink was not preserved. I would have been nice to have seen at least one Silver A4 live to preservation. Just a memory now though :(

  • @paullubliner That much is obvious but all the same I agree :)

  • Just watched it again; love the excitement in these old news films!

  • Film powinien być zadedykowany Polskim Kolejom Państwowym

  • Not as awsome as a 'Duchess'

  • Certainly very impressive film. Would the 'between the rails' shots of the train running over the camera perhaps suggest a certain amount of pre planning of this film?!!

  • Britain should still be designing and building high speed trains.

  • wow! man I wished I live there!

  • nice one

  • The 104mph caption is wrong, the top speed was 112mph on this run,

  • 112 mph correct. According to raliway historian OS Nock this was done on level track 'with no special effort' from the driver. Apparently the engine ran very smoothly but the carriages less so! Sir Nigel Gresley ribbed the senior engineer responsible for the track that it wasn't too good.

The engine was doing 105 -110 for 30 miles or so. Eventually someone went through the corridor tender & told the driver to slow down!!

OS Nock reckoned this was the 'natural' cruising speed of A4s.

  • ''Mr Gresley comes down the corridor and shouts in my ear, ''Easy up lad, do you know you've hit one hundred and twelve twice? Go a bit easier!''

  • yeah but also silver jubilee was only pulling 6 to 7 carriages an average express train had atleast 10 same on mallards record run only 7 carriages and most likely lighter weight carriages aswell with a full load 14 loaded carriages could probably average 75 90 mph but i doubt over 100 with that amount of weight behind it

  • super chef d' oeuvre a+

  • Imagine standing there at 0:51

  • Lol, at 00:50, its whistle sounds somewhat like a whistle on a Lionel steam train from the postwar era.

  • Brilliant piece of video, enjoyed every second of it, thanks for posting it

  • Brilliant video

  • Still can't beat my Duchesses lol. Excellent video, a real treat (even if it is a "foreigner" lol). I love these old films of steam trains.

  • One of the more well known videos. I love the first 5 seconds or so with the music and the overhead shot. Really captures the sense of speed. Great!

  • EXCELLENT!!!!!=D

  • Excellent!!!!

  • Fantastic!!!!

  • Incredible. Yes, we have lost so much over the years!

  • Love this video!

  • Pure Magic. What a lot we have lost over the years.

  • Superb video, more of these, please!

  • Really nostalgic and exciting video! I wonder when the shot of the train going over the camera was recorded? It can hardly be a spontaneous thing to do! Jim
