  • Great video and useful, thanks! I have one comment which is useful hopefully... if you have a complete itinerary for flying to your destination (like under a single booking code), the airline on the first leg of the trip sets the standards for baggage acceptance, so even if you have a different airline on a second leg of the booking, as long as it was accepted by the first it'll be no problem. :)

  • @photopuppet Good Point. When I went on the Norway trip I was preparing for when I made the video, the first leg of the trip was on Alaska Airlines. At that time Alaska had no baggage fees, so the who trip out incurred no charge.

  • awesome documentation. hope it will work on my trip. Anyone knows how much the 'boxed bike' roughly costs from the US- Germany in addition to the flight?

  • Awesome video. Thanks for the help, bike came out perfect.

  • very helpful vid! thanks

  • Thanks for this great video! I'll make sure to have pipe insulation and zip ties ready when heading of from the airport :)

  • very cool video, thanks!

  • Thx Chuck for the video! I am finding out how to take my bicycle from Australia to Spain and I am very lost. Your video helped a lot!

  • MY tip for anybody with a full suspension is remove the rear swingarm and front forks. I managed to fit mine into a largest size suitcase with everthing apart from the wheels which were in seperate padded wheel bags. a full suspension bike is smaller to transport than a rigid bike. removing the rear swingarm makes it so much smaller. you could actually fit it into a pretty small nice sized box with this technique.

  • very helpful ~ thanx very much

  • "Don't wait until the night before you get on the plane to pack your bike" - I'm gonna have to bust out early to get the pipe insulation and zip ties for the zip ties. Thanks for making the video. Annapolis to Tunis, this should help them arrive safely.

  • Excellent video Chuck!!

  • Great video. Thanks for posting it. I will just start packing our two moutain bikes to take them back to Brazil.

  • Great help! I am now an expert on packing a bike... I cannot believe that my lovely bike is now just in pieces and that's me who did it. Of course by the help of this video...

  • good man, Chuck - you've made something complicated appear simple.

  • zip tie the zip ties!! that cracked me up!! awesome vid thanks

  • I get a lot of mileage from the zip ties.

They truly are your best friends!

    Thanks

  • Great video Chuck. I had Evans bike shop in UK pack my new bike for a flight. When I got to the airport I checked to see they had deflated tyres and they hadn't; nor had they secured or put any packing on any of the bike (except for a tie on the cranks and one on the handle bars). I had to throw a whole lot of clothes in the box (in the Heathrow departure area)to secure the bike. I think I'll send them your video!

  • haha opps! glad you told me that actually now I know - you want something done u have to do it yourself! Where were you going? Any tips? I was thinking about the Morzines?

  • Thanks for the info.

  • Great video Chuck! Very thorough and detailed!

    Colette
