Julie Andrews Absolutely CARRIED the SOUND OF MUSIC on her back.......and Made EVERYONE fall in LOVE WITH HER.......I was Eight years old when it came out and I fell for her in a Big Way........What a Voice!!
Over Thanksgiving, I had the honor of being kicked out of my house to share a room with my cousin at The Hammerstein House. The house is beautiful, each room a different theme... I never wanted to leave and return to my home, only 10 minutes away. I can't wait to return next Thanksgiving... so much magic and music...
@finallysometruth must be after the surgery, she couldn`t sing after the surgery, I think princess diaries was the first movie in which she sung again. I`m sorry of I`m wrong.
@funnymusicfreak this was before the surgery - and you are absolutely correct Princess Diaries 2 was the first and only time she had sung since having the surgery :)

I love the joy she expresses. If only she could have sung it with a slightly German accent, it would have gained authenticity as well. But then it wouldn't appeal to Brits and Americans.
Was this ever released on DVD? I remember watching this on PBS. There are also great performances from the revival cast of Carousel during the show. AND Mandy's Bali Hi is wonderful. Patti's You'll Never Walk Alone is amazing and I believe she sang it with the gay mens choir of San fran.

o.o this is NOT some enchanted evening this is from my fair lady, not south pacific (i mean come on, where does she ever say the words "some enchanted evening?)
This is not from 'My Fair Lady'... it is from The Sound of Music. If you read the video description you would be able to see what the video is about instead of assuming and then posting hostile remarks.
I was so touched by Stephen Sondheim's intro...he was rather chocked up...and what can i say about Julie Andrews except absolutely amazing! She is as good as it gets...what a beauty!
Singing or speaking? Musical theatre composer Stephen Sondheim speaks at the beginning of this clip before Julie sings "Edelweiss." He was a protege of Hammerstein, and he's one of the foremost theatrical composers of the 20th century.
Julie is breathtaking! Thanks for posting this, she's amazing. Her voice is as good as ever, and she couldn't look better. I'll never get enough of her....this was beautiful.
As far as I know, Julie only performed two numbers that evening. Cockeyed Optimist (for which I missed the start of the song) and of course this one, and yes that is James Barbour.

in what way would it have gained authenticity if she had sung it with a German accent ???
alecs1976 2 years ago 9
only because 'The Sound of Music' takes place in Austria
Jonnybrams 2 years ago
well, it's a song written by Richard Rogers and Oscar Hammerstein, two americans. It's not a German song if that's what you're implying...
