  • I am Brazilian. I am 19 years old. I can not understand a word She is singing, but I can undestand her language. The language of joy .

  • Comment removed

  • @goodlifeful music does not need any words its a language we all understand

  • this is so amazing!!

  • I am from the Isle of Man Uk and i first heard African Music on BBC Radio 1 and i grew to like it.

I feel the natural spirit of this music even though i don't understand the words. Sometimes i hear other cultures such as Asian and European influencing the original feel to this music and it saddens me, I like this song because it is original and reflects what Africa is about.

  • Such a heart, such a soul, she sang with a passion that rises above pettiness. This is a universal voice, the heart of music, it all comes from the same place. Anyone willing to take a listen will discover this truth for themselves.

  • RIP Mama Africa. <3

  • it's my mother tongue

  • People - don't pay attention to those racists...They are too stupid to be insulting. Dont waste your time and energy on them.

  • There is no black people , white people or yellow people , what there is , is Human's.

We're one , we live in the same planet , and we aren't taking the benefit of life.

  • Translation:

The sun has set, young men the cattle of our fathers must return home

When I look towards the grazing fields I see nothing

Chorus - how will we pay the bride price

if we let our fathers' cattle vanish into thin air

Young men where are the cattle of our fathers?

    Young men get sticks

and let us go and look for the cattle of our fathers? (X4)

  • Racism is so stupid and irrelevant that it doesn't deserve a word from you. I assume some of you are trying to help the poor souls, which is really noble, but but paying no attention will be more effective. Any parent with spoiled kids will tell you that :) Enjoy this beauty of sound and don't waste your time on people's stupidity and psychological problems... as long as it does no harm, and on Youtube it doesn't. Peace and love from Serbia

  • makes me want to cry really...after going to south africa for the world cup i just want to tear up man...

  • the best xD

  • BEAUTIFUL voice of Miriam Makeba. Whatever the language/culture it is appreciated by music lovers. Get the hell out of here you morons of the like of lilycha100. God's blessings on all humanity

  • Oh, quit your blabbering and enjoy the song!

Enjoy music, enjoy different cultures, enjoy life!!

  • Why in the world would you take up the time and place to vent any of this racist, no i'm right and you're wrong, etc. while this God Blessed women is singing beautifully. Stop soiling our eyes and hearts, get on your knees and ask your creator and father, for understanding and forgiveness. If you want to communicate, written or orally, let it be something informative, beautiful, entertaining, uplifting...........now you're getting it!!! God created goodness in us all. Go share yours

  • @godschildsandi You write with intellect and words of beauty. This is a moving response to bigotry,

  • @baalbek06 God Bless you, my friend. Racism and bigotry causes pain and sorrow for all hearts for no reason at all. Thank you for your beautiful words to me.

  • @godschildsandi

I agree completely that there is no place for racism in a (hopefully) civilized world. However, when writing such things from a point of (quite rightly) denouncing racism, it would be a good idea to check your spelling. (2 mistakes in a short statement)

  • @wendyhd1 Wendy, Bless you and thank you for pointing this out. I understand the wisdom in your words. I was quite over-taken while listening to this beautiful song to read the comments.

  • @godschildsandi Well said!

  • @tc35drum Thank you, my friend, for your words of encouragement. God Bless you.

  • @godschildsandi well said :)

  • @drvanice Your wrong, we evolved in Africa, our 4 million year old cousin "Ardi" was native to Ethiopia not SE Asia

  • wow racist on the songs too daaaaaaaaaaaamn wtf.......go listen to bluegrass and leave us alone fuuuuuuuuuuk

  • @drvanice Actually, we did evolve in africa. a good percentage of people have dna markers that come from a woman who headed north from africa thousands of years ago.

as humans reached different climates, we adapted.

  • The human race evolved in africa, then spread across the world.

    Racists get owned.

  • @rovinglycan Nicely said =) Much love and respect

  • how do you call it when do you not understand a single word of a song and just hear it and hear it... when you feel every single word deep in your bones..... just can't explain........grande Miriam :)

  • Awesome!!!!

  • so much grace in this music...

  • im here to enjoy this song, not retardedness.....grow up;)

  • Wonderful lady - Wonderful Music - USMC 1981-1992

  • SWEEEET!!

  • so relaxing

  • nee en france jai le mal du pays Afrique g grandi en france en pensant au pays Afrique!!!!!

  • Miriam was like a mother to me and I will miss her very much. Her grandchildren played an intricate part in her music and they too miss her. What a voice. Miss you Mazi!

  • @Lilycha100 May God forgive you and change your heart. God Bless You.

  • @godschildsandi If there was a god then i would be happy to hit him hard when i die because all bad things he have made. so Eat my short

  • @Lilycha100 You are ignorant and sad. Ignorant means someone who doesn't know and sad because you are not open to learning truth, love, humanity. God is real and we are all his children. I have been listening to Miriam Makeba since the late 60's and she had a heart as big and beautiful as her voice. She was as a teacher to me with her music. Opening my mind, heart, and soul to the beauty of music I did not know existed. Being "open" is good. Loving all people is good. May God help you.

  • @godschildsandi Even God cant help me and he have never helped me SO STFU WITH THE CRAP BULLSHIT

  • @Lilycha100 I will pray that God help you and ease your suffering.

  • @godschildsandi You should be open as well... Maybe study all other religions, then preach from there. I agree about the ignorant, disrespectful people on here. They should have MUCH respect for us as humans, but it's just like a first grader... They can't read, unless you teach them. Ya' know? We must help others who don't know about us originating from Africa. Not put them down. Much love and respect.

  • @Lilycha100 Your an illiterate, racist idiot who knows nothing of African culture! Good luck in life you racist moron :)

  • @Lilycha100 Motherfucker, take ur ignorant fat pig hate else where. we Africans r fuckn proud of who we are.. Racism wont get u nowhere.. get the fuck out of here..

  • @Lilycha100 You ignorant shit. Learn something, will ya?

  • Miriam's voice is the 'wild wind of Africa, hear it blow, hear it blow, blow.'

All South Africans are proud of her achievements both as an artist and political activist.

    TheStarsunris.

  • When all things are as they should be

  • i am from Serbia and i love Africa and African music...wonderful.

  • exactly lando364!!! i love AFRICA!!! ITS MA DREAM

  • How does she make such incredibly beautiful, colorful music sound so effortless? How do I find her Africa?

  • wipesmy tears- i jsut cant beleive shes gone Y.Y

  • É de arrepiar!!

  • No one say bad things bout africans there leaders are cunts just like in all the planet.

  • rip mama africa

  • A little peace of this wonderful continent... thanks!

  • Bellisimo!

  • fantastic singer

  • Africans slaughtered and enslaved one another throughout their history. They're no different than the rest of humankind, except they were singled out for exploitation by the mighty, God fearing USA at a time when supposedly enlightened, great men were founding a democracy that would shame and lead the world. Some example they were setting, aye? Hypocrites, Americans are. It's our most impressive quality.

  • @KingKook Indeed

  • @KingKook Who taught you the history of Africa? I suppose you learnt African history from African oppressors who certainly gave you their versions. Have read or learnt African history from African scholars? I'm sure the answer is no. My advice to you is: Do not speak about something of which you have no knowledge.Your affirmation is nothing short of the lies peddled by African oppressors throughout history to justify their oppression.

  • Perfeito!

  • THIS IS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL SONG FROM SUCH A STRONG VOICE, A VOICE WITH MORE THAN JUST MELODY, BUT A COMBINATION OF ALL IT TAKES TO BE AN INFLUENTIAL ARTIST..RIP MAMA MAKEBA

  • Gracias Mamá Africa... envidio a los angeles que te deben estar escuchando

  • The voice of Africa, simply great!

  • Nothing could be better. Good music by the ledgendry and the ONLY ONE M Makeba

  • i want to go home

  • There is a metaphorical meaning to this song that most people have always missed. Those who know Miriam Makeba and what she stood for will understand what I mean.

Cows are a substitute for SA land in this song. This is in fact a liberation song calling for men to rise and fight for the homeland.

  • touching, powerful, perfect like everything sung by Miriam...

  • I do not know who's that "buzzhawk" nor why all those comments to him, but I'm sure he had to say something really stupid and wrong to create such opinions!!

Anyway, I will say with all my energies: Viva Mama Africa!!! The best!

  • shes has a nice voice, and hebrew did not come before Aramaic, so take your jew-centric ass else where

  • CLICK LANGUAGE OF SOUTH AFRICA WAS THE FIRST LANGUAGE OF HUMAN BEINGS. Earliest humans evolved in the South Africa-East Africa - Ethiopia corridor. Click Sound was their first language. When a segment of those early humans crossed over to Asia they developed the "click-like" languages of Chinese, Korean, Japanese, etc. The humans who moved NorthWest towards Sudan>Egypt>Middle East developed their vocal cords into fullfleged languages through war screams. The rest is history as we know it today!

  • thats.... cool?

  • u dont know what the hell u talking about...and the bible was written by humans like u and I...don't get it twisted...biotch!!!

  • @maja2383 and you should mind your business.

  • @stacynewyork

    fair enough!

  • @stacynewyork Yes, read a fictional story. Might as well go read Twilight, I bet it's JUST as fascinating.

  • @buzzhawk It looks like you have just enough brains to breath. First there was black people than all the rest. Racisme is born out of stupidity

  • @aimeclaus - dunno who were first but people are different and diversity is what makes this place so amazing :) and every culture is so magical and colorful in its own unique way its wonderful

  • You said it right! ;)

  • @aimeclaus Racism is born out of a big fear center in their small Republican brains. It's a fact.

  • @aimeclaus No man. First their was a common ancestor (that looked more like black people than white, yellow, brown or red people) and this one evolved into white people, black people and all the other races.

To say that first there was black people is to suggest that white people (and other races) evolved from black people and hence that white people (and other races) are more evolved and so possible better or smarter than black people

  • @Obliviatora that common ancestor was a black human and from africa. you can still see mirror of the originals in africa today.the cave man came from the euro.it might have been a devolved from the evolved white man ecause the evolved white man and cave man were still existing in the same times at one point before cave man evolved or fadded away. but no matter color we all came from a Black human African..we talking about years at the first day of life.

  • @Obliviatora LOL where did you get this? I think you are afraid of evolving from blacks so you make up stuff to soothe your fear.

  • @buzzhawk Its quite fun to hear a jerk like you talking about inventions. You sound like this species of men, that isn't able to use one of the most important inventions of human being, the book. Jerks like you stand in front of a book and the only way you know how to use it is burning it. I'm happy that human being not depends on jackasses like you, because in this case there wouldn't be any new invention either.

  • If there will ever be a new renaissance in the world, it will come from Africa. Singilla Afrika singilla mingi mingi, mby ye mo

  • This is my MAMA AFRICA. RIP MM

  • Fucking racist idiot! why don't you go curl up and die on your Confederate flag.

  • u r a complete asshole!

  • We have a saying here in FL ... maybe one of these days you get sick and die ...

  • @buzzhawk Dear Buzzhawk, If you really believe that, and aren't just saying that to shock us, you are missing out on some of the greatest people in the world. How dark one's skin is has a lot to do with how far one, or one's ancestors, are from the equator. The whole concept of race is questionable, especially with all the migration and intermarriage that goes on. We're all human beings, although sometimes we behave very cruelly---but that has nothing to do with "race".

  • Racist jerk what did the Negro people ever do to you?!?!?!

  • @buzzhawk That would be oro negro

  • The most beautiful music.

  • South Africa: a place i dream to go greetings from Kenya. Love the song too. Thanx for the lyrics.

  • is there anyone, who can translate the song in english for me?

that`s would to be great !!

    thx

  • I've been searching for the lyrics for years. Please let me know if you're able to get them.

  • yes, i will make it !

  • the sun has set boys the cows must go back to their fathers the sun has already set boys the cows must go back the their fathers looking at the hills but i dont see anything (x3) how you going to pay the dowry if you lose the cows they've gone with wind(x4) boys where are the cows of the fathers(x4) oh boys take your kiri's (x4) and go and find the cows of the fathers in the forest oh boys take your kiris(x4) and go and find the cows of the fathers in the forest then it repeats about dowry etc
  • Thank you very much for the lyrics..greetings from germany!

  • it's a pleasure.. just to let you know that this is a direct translation word-for-word!

    greetings from south africa!

  • how's it in south africa , I never went there. I'm from america

  • well, we have lions which roam our dirt roads and we all live in huts made from cow manure. Lol. JJ
