In his 40+ years in the Senate I can't think of a single piece of legislation that he sponsored or co-sponsored that has actually helped the country. He was a good senator, but a questionable human being. His life riddled with bad personal decisions and more booze than any normal man can drink. At Chappaquiddick he was clealy guilty of leaving the scene and of reckless drinking.. He got off because of his name and he never served a day in jail. That was a miscarriage of justice of which the likes we seldom see. Ironically, the senator went on to rail against unequal treatment under the law, when he had benefited from it more than most.
