  • The best friday song ever made.

  • ahhh this song makes my friday nights.. pretty much everyday actually

  • I have this vinyl, it's 30 years old :D

  • sooo gooooooood

  • WTF

  • wif lyrics?!?!?! what the fuck is "wif"

  • @MikeWoolridge94 like a queef?

  • man ... i'm 19 myself, and me and my mates are in a punk/ska band, but everytime we go to band practice, or head off to play a show... we always listen to the Specials, Prince Buster.. Madness, Toots, you name it.. this stuff is always going to be the best and i respect it more than anything in the world .. rude boys .. .skins .. world wide, cheers !! lets have a pint, forget our differences and dance ... brilliant !!

  • Oh man, this is a top tune. Absolutely luv ska n two tone!

  • everything in the 80s was gold...

    DAMMIT!

why couldnt i be born in exactly 62-63 so i can be a good teenager in the the start of a wonderful era.

  • @ska0tahirany

I was born in 64 and so I was there at the start of that "wonderful era" and it was & still is wonderful... :-)

You on the other hand my friend have the chance to live that era for yourself with the current reunion tours, me I was at the Glasgow gig recently and though the mind is willing the body can't keep up anymore...

You should get yourself along to a Specials gig it really is wonderful and remember, Enjoy yourself, it's later thank you think... :-)

  • CAME BACK FROM SEEING THE SPECIALS IN CARDIFF MOTORPOINT ARENA! IT WAS AMAZING!!! :D

  • wish i had lipstick on my shirt, instead of piss stains on my shoes.wot a line and so fekn true. SPECIALS.

  • This was my life in the 80's.

  • i go out on friday night, and i come home on tuesday morning

  • not beer. cider!

  • jerry dammers, wherever you are right now and whatever youre doing, you were one of the greats and youre missed...top tune :-)

  • @armalyte Terry wrote this gem!!!

As for Jerry, I agree but he doesn't WANT to be with the reunited Specials. Roddy said that Jerry can be very difficult.

At first, he met the rest of the guys and gave it a try, then stormed out. What are you going to do when 6 out of 7 are happy to be back in this TOP cult band, and one isn't (even if he's the founder & main songwriter)?

Jerry is missed but he is also missing out.

He now is with the Spatial AKA (...that few ppl ever hear of).

  • Fellow Cov-boy - knew Locarno/Tiffanys .... and the Chip Shop was the Parsons Nose in the Burges....... Great days - Great track..

  • May I recommend the book 'A Concise Guide To Eighties Music' by Karl Vorderman. The author is a big fan of this track.

  • still the best everrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  • The Specials Friday night > Rebecca Black Friday

  • anyone knows good cure for hangover?

  • @Dorkas12345 Alka-Seltzer

  • @Dorkas12345

    Lots of semen.

  • @Dorkas12345 beer

  • soooooon.... :)

  • This song helps.

  • I love how this song is so dim, dull and querky, yet WHY IS SO STRANGELY OPTIMISTIC?

    love it. so, much.

  • @Hysteria98 Very true...

  • I'll eat it in the taxi queue

And stand in someone else's poo.

  • @ImaniHekima its actually spew, just to correct you.

  • @MrTheAlabam Thanks but my "typo" was actually done on purpose. ;-)

  • @ImaniHekima spew. spew, not poo. just sayin'

  • @dkgdbr Hi, see the comment just above...but in case you don't find it, I actually know the lyrics - and I do think mine works. :-)

  • wasted as a b side absolute classic

  • One of my Specials faves!

  • 30 years old and still sounds relevant and effing excellent!

  • On Fridays when I go out I listen to Too drunk to fuck by Dead Kennedys, when I come home I put on this record and everything is perfect.

  • @piho1

    Are you me? Haha

  • Oh yes.

  • out my head by half past ten..... :)

  • im a dinging dongle!!!!

  • Listening to this song, I think that this guy must have had this happen to him many times before, including the whole band. Funky lyric british ska.

  • @Beatles712 Terry Hall said it was exactly his life at the time.

They all became an adorable bunch of drunks while being in the band, esp. when they came back from their N.A. Tour.

But if you turn this into a competition, Terry is the gold medalist, having continued for so long, and that's without mentionning the fact that he started at age13....In his case though, there are at least 2 serious explanations + attenuating circumstances

  • hahah the noughties... marvellous

  • esse som é demais!

  • rá!

  • Soon be time to revisit this, i fancy. we've had nu-rave, we've had new labour, now on this island lil' kiddie-thatchers have got the conch well at least summer's coming and there's another wedding to look forward to. It was great after the last one, huh? yesterday's bleak melodies downcast social comment haunt still this damp, dreary, drab isle go out on friday nights/ what am i doing here/ flourescent jam sandwich with flashing blue lights/ coming like a ghosttown cheer up worse in japan
  • dammers organ in the middle break is just divine ... makes the track

  • GOD just listening to the instrumentals of this song makes me feel like im walking down some damp dank English cobblestoned street whilst intoxicated

  • @jewboyjwr what a great comment!! so true.

  • @jewboyjwr I'd be up for it!! lets get mentally inept

  • good song

  • The Specials ode to another night of drunken debauchery ala George Romero's "Night of the Living Mai-Tai's"......ahhhhhhhhhhhhh... mai-tai mai-tai vodkatonic vodkatonic aaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhuuurrrrrrrrrrrrr, repeat as needed.

  • I have p!55 sta!n5 on my boots its kind of weird no matter where I go they follow and I sometimes have to step over them it is wrong the Bantu have taken over the town and are trying to kill us all it sucks, they instigate racial violence and in general this music led me too that part of history not really seeking out racial hatred or intolerance but I understand what happened then more than others from being in the eye of the storm...

    Carry on...

  • one of my favs of the specials! love it takes me back. oh where have the good old days gone! thats when music was music. not the shit in the charts now.80s music will live on for everrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr lol

  • rather have lipstick on my shirt than piss stains on my shoes, too right terry mate cracking lyrics from a golden era when there was fck all cash about but a man still managed to get ruined ...!

  • Man what happened?

  • epic fucking synths. magic.

  • if ever there,s an anthem to the great british night out, i nominate this, esp as the last verse could be dedicated to all the guys who did not pull, we who went out with high hopes of seeing the girl of our dreams from the office/shop/factory we we toiled, to coming home skint and broken hearted... party on

  • kouros

  • Best song ever - I remember hearing this as my Brother was going to the Youth Club Disco in the eighties. He was about 14 and I was 7 years old with a Harrington Jacket with a Specials sew on patch sewed on crooked on the arm hahhaa! And my new Monkey Boots. Memories a song can give you eh??? Oh yes and Brut in the air!

  • You only live once so go enjoy yourself until you have kids !

  • this ones one of my favs!

  • @skinheadbabykevin fuck you kevin haha jk. lets drink soon man.

  • @0iTrojanSkinz0i ,,,can this old skin join ya

  • Till this day the lyrics are so true.

  • Comment removed

  • Dance Craze!

  • this is just epic, all these years later and me (age 16) can still relate to the culture of the 80's

    SKA'D FOR LIFE

  • Gran Rola

    Viva el Ska!

"...I go out on Friday night and I come home on Saturday morning

I go out on Friday night and I come home on Saturday morning

I go out on Friday night and I come home on Saturday morning

I go out on Friday night and I come home on Saturday morning"

  • this song is my favorite i´m from mexico and i love the ska this is a extraordinary song that is all

i love the ska and the especials too

  • standin in the taxi queue, standin in someone else`s spew! love it, nothings changed!!!

  • there is no doubt that the specials are icons within the british music scene then and now,

    Greatness will live forever

i am so glade that these boys reformed

    and thay still have it

  • Ive just been told about this version of this and it's great.im so surprised i haven't heard it b4 as i have been a Specials/Ska fan since i was a teenager, hehe long time ago now.!I had only heard the version by nouvelle vague which i really like, luvin this though;-) ..

  • @LizB532 Its probably because it was a B side and not well known, I remember buyin Ghost Town at the time when it came out, I only bought it for Friday Night Saturday morning on the B side because I'd alredy heard it at my mates house, The Single I bought didnt even have it on , I was well pissed off, some of the singles had 'Why' and fri 'night sat morn' on but others just had 'Why' as the B side, I had to save up my pocket money and buy it twice! I still have both singles today somwhere.

  • classic. still got me vinyl of this with the cover above!

  • i grew up to the specials..honestly they where the only CD i ever listen to when i was little lol

  • this is what happens when you live in NYC. lmao great song

  • for real ... i can relate

  • "this version pales in comparison to Nouvelle Vague's though. "

You're crazy. Their version doesn't capture the feeling of Friday night/Saturday morning's at all. It's too saccharine and soft. This version has just the right mix of reflectiveness and clumsiness.

  • i heard this in hot topic and cracked up its really good and catchy

  • Classic!

  • it makes me so nostalgic i feel sick almost - i still love it though

  • Thanks For Posting this Fantastic Jem. I Haven't it in Years.

  • still have this single, bit scruffy now, wont play on my pc..but hey got it on cd anyway....was 14 going on 15 in 1981....this is what britain was actually like, paid 100 quid for a pair of tassled loafers the other day !!!! memories

  • Get a grip you tool

  • 1millionpence, are you mad? If I had the power, I'd punish you with eternal damnation for saying that.

  • British culture hasn't changed one bit.... it's pretty much the same in the Noughties as it was in the Eighties and the Specials are still around!!!! Their music is still relevant today!! My love for the specials will never die!!!!!

  • why you have -4 i dont know,it is like elevator music, but elevator music we all loved

  • Wish I had lipstick on my shirt

Instead of piss stains on my shoes

  • @ViciousMaximus Fabulous!

  • This song makes me sad, cos it rings true in the Midwest US, only in my town all the marijuana dealers got busted and none of my friends can buy liqour!

  • R.I.P. Sean Cuffe who never came home on Saturday morning :'( xxx

  • Brilliant. And still relevant now.

  • "hope the chip shop isn't closed, because the pies are really nice"

  • wif? ryts? Fucking hell, what a moron.
