1. You should all dissasemble and clean your airbrushes right after you finish painting, NOT before you start, so the paint from last week had a chance to harden and stick to your needle ect.
2. You should NEVER use sandpaper or any other abrasive to clean track, there is a track cleaner that looks like a yellow eraser which is non abrasive BUT removes dirt light oxidation ect. IF YOU DON'T have one of those a piece of homasote works well too.
Don´t forget to wear a respirator / protective mask, you are using an ORGANIC SOLVENT. Even acrylic paints use organic solvents like alcohol and should also only be used with a respirator.
@Didingtonn Only is you have been using WATER BASED colors! -Otherwise ORGANIC SOLVENTS should be used, like cellulose thinners, terpentine or alcohol.....
just wanted to say thanx alot and great series just saw all of your airbrush videos in order and i have the same exact airbrush so thats relly hepful thax alot gread vid
which way do you prefer to weather your track airbrushing or the weathering solution? And I got to say all your videos are great. I'm new to the model railroad hobby, and didn't know where to start. But by watching your videos gave me great ideas. And the insight on how to go about doing it all. So thanks for all these great instructional videos, you do a great job!!
cool series, im an artist well i can draw very good and i wanted to start the whole airbrush thing and this series helped me get a understanding of the tools, and thanks for making those minor mistakes because now i wont have to. those are small but verry annoying mistakes i probabally would have made but now probabaly will not, look foward for more videos dude thanks again
Don't feel bad, long before you tried it i was thinking "hes not going to use all of that thinner..he can probably pour that back in once hes done.." thanks for making the mistakes so we don't have to ;)..how do you dispose of contaminated thinner?
fortunately it's not a total loss. the paint will settle to the bottom of the jar so I can skim the clean thinner off the top. As to how to dispose of it I'll probably need to drop it off at a hazardous waste collection site. The city sets up some temp locations a few times a year so homeowners can safely dispose of liquid waste.
@jiidee That's EXACTLY what I thought ;-) Awesome set of clips, not sure how I could have missed it for so many years..? Do you, Evert, still use airbrusch techniques? Best wishes! Marc

I have actually used dirty paint thinner to weather models with. You can just apply it and it will only leave a bit of a dirty look.
