The rural people get easy money from taksin. That's why they love him so much. They don't have to work to earn a living, just waiting for handouts. Once they get the money, they buy new cellphones, motorbikes, or gamble. And you will be surprised that the rural people gets poorer and in more debt than before. As the proverb goes, to cure a hungry man for a day, taksin gives him fish, but he's going to be hungry for the rest of his life because he doesn't know how to fish.
General rule: Never put a wealthy business man or a military leader to head the post. Same reason why both Bushes (Sr. and Jr.) put the US into war and recession and why Ross Perot never got elected. Same reason why Bill Clinton (Oxford Scholar)succeeded and out the US from a deficit to a surplus never seen before. Thought your UCLA education was better than that. If you need a lesson, come to Wharton and I will school you on politics, ecnonomic, and common sense son!
@thaiblade Your general rule is funny. The leaders are chosen by people through election. So you suggest we need a puppet leader to run the country. Bush Jr. is the good example of that. Is that what they taught you in Wharton? I'm wondering if you even actually graduate or go there.
Did someone day he didnt deserve the post? Did Samak? Did Somchai? Did Thaksin? Paying for the post versus earning it are two different things. Obviously the TRT and PPP governments didnt work. You have to give the opposition a chance to see what they can do.
At least Thaksin's won hearts and minds of people. Name me one politician in the last 100 year in Thailand who could do that.
I've never been a Thaksin supporter but I don't think the way things are done in Thailand is right.
Politians should fight each other inside of the palamen. They should not bring the fight to the street and let civilians involve. If one side losts an election they should let the other side finish his term and challenge him in the next election.
The problem in Thailand means Thai capital fleeing into dollar, and is good for United States interest. The last Asian Financial Crisis was good for America and Europe. Now more than ever the US and Europe need Asian help to get out of fiscal and financial mess of a very big scale. So a bit of stability in Thailand is not exactly unwelcome if the situation can be exploited by US and others as well outside of Thailand. As they say;where there is crisis, there is opportunity. And it is largely free
I hope he can last. Thailand needs strong leaders. So far Abhisit hasn't shown any strong leadership quality yet. The PM title has been given to him, he hasn't earned it.
I believe the new PM will do well to lead his country. He is very well-educated. Very confident.

Dude, name me one of Abhisit's major accomplishments as a politician, beside graduating from Oxford.
Abhisit is book smart but Thaksin is street smart. I would love to have guy like Abhisit as a friend or relative but not as a PM of Thailand.

I've seen a lot of street smart people go down the drain eventually. Look where taksin is now.

Let's look at the qualifications:
Abhisit Vejjavia - Oxford First Class Honors = World Renowned Institution
Samak = Did he go to school?
Thaksin = Sam Houston Univeristy - Are you f**ken kidding me? I think they pay people to go there and give free PhDs every Mondays.
Did I mention Korn Chatikavanij as the Finance Minister! Just wait till he gets down and dirty with the Thaksin money scandal..its over Mr. Thaksin!
