  • Happy Birthday Mr. Mays if you view this post I want you to know what you meant to me. You played the game in a way that no one else did. Turning singles into doubles . doubles into triples and cracked HR's that every time you came up it made me think you'd hit one. I remember seeing you on TV commercials to keep kids safe from touching blasting caps left behind at the abandoned Navy & Army bases in SF. Kids listened to you; you are an American Hero

  • The most amazingly gracious man, amazing will always be associated to him. I was 8 when i saw him play and I can't remember anything at 8 except my dad taking me to candlestick and Willie hitting 2 doubles, and the Giants beating the Dodgers. Of course I listened to games on the radio and it only added to my memories of Willie making play after play to win games. I do know that he did it in an era that was totally racist except for a few which makes it even more remarkable

  • A poor kid from the Depression-era South, coming up through the Negro Leagues and becoming a baseball hero, and a half-black kid from Hawaii as President meeting on Air Force One. An amazing American story.

  • @MoreBarn71 Expect Obummer is a puppet President selling the country down the river. (Besides that, it's pretty cool.)

  • Obama and Billy Mays > Obama and Willie Mays. Thumbs up if this is true.

  • @JGATZ1 Willie Mays> Obama. You gets thumbs down from me as Obummer sucks(sell out) and Mays was great!

  • sfgunner88 just because you're a homosexual from San Francisco and bitter that your boyfriend left you because you have anal warts, that's no reason to project that bitterness upon the President of the United States.

For your own sake, get some psychiatric help, or spare the rest of us from your bitterness and embrace your thoughts and commit suicide.

  • @ecktoeman Wow, calling someone homo is pretty weak! What are you, like a third grader?

  • Obama lied and deceived his way into the White House...He duped a lot of folks...Good folks...Willie Mays is a good dude...He served our country...and...Loves it too...Don't hold it against him because of his ignorance...

  • @wattaguy1947 jackass

  • @wattaguy1947 Very true!

  • Amazing

  • wonderful. Now Willie Mays associates with communists.

  • @victorsblock

    lol!

  • even before the civil rights legislation of 1964 every white kid in the san francisco bay area did not want to be like willie mays he wanted to be willie mays. when little league uniforms were handed out everyone wanted number 24.

  • Wow. Willie is treasure. Go Giants, Go Democrats on Tuesday.

  • Giants! forget Obama's white sox! lol

  • @BerkeleyBuilt

    Good to see them talking!

That was 1954. For the Cleveland Indians then, the White Sox then were a hard team to beat. Fox, Minoso, Carrasquel and others wrecked the Indians' pitchers' ERAs. Later both teams traded players cuz exept for 1954, the Yankees won every year..

I love the Cubs and hope they finally win the title. Their stadium is a major piece of history, hardly changed.

When ppl say "America(n)", which country - North, Central or South America??

  • @Rapappport i'm talking about now a days. the giants will win the world series with Mays cheering them on!

  • @BerkeleyBuilt I hope so!!

  • @BerkeleyBuilt Yes me too. Go Giants! Great game last night.

  • The achievements of these 2 men would not have been possible if most white people were racist.

Color-blind people freely gave both of them the opportunity for greatness.

Without the gift of opportunity, neither of them would have a place in history.

Furthermore, at some point, they need to acknowledge it was love in the hearts of their color-blind fellow man and a sense of fairness that provided the opportunity, not demonstrations, marches and riots.

  • @howtogetwell Maybe in Willie Mays' case, but that cannot be said for Obama. Capitalism and the will to win got Willie Mays his position. Obama on the other hand, he wouldn't have the position he has if blacks (as well as whites) in the past didn't march, demonstrate, and maybe even riot. Most whites today aren't racist because of the actions of their ancestors. I acknowlege that it was because of the kindness of color blind whites, but don't trivialize the work of Mays and countless others.

  • @camking88

Most whites never were racist. If most whites were racist, we would still have slavery. The whites freed the slaves, not the slaves. The whites gave the blacks the right to vote, not the blacks. It's time for blacks to acknowledge that the white man is not the evil creature they think he is.

  • @RealBatHouses What the hell are you talking about? Most blacks don't think white people are evil. You're judging a whole race based on a few nuts, kina like if I were to judge all whites based on the KKK. Futhermore, white people didin't just wake up one day and decide to free the slaves. They didn't just wake up one day and decide to give Blacks the right to vote. As you recall, both actions met with extreme opposition. What color were the opposers?

  • @camking88

You asked, "what color were the opposers?"

This is the problem. You look at this as a race issue when it has nothing to do with race.

The opposers are the same people who are enslaving the white people today. Yes, we are is slavery. The dollar is the shackles.

It isn't a race issue. It is a power issue. The same power issue that has black men at the top in some nations in Africa, Asians at top in China, and Muslims at the top in some Middle Eastern Nations.

  • @RealBatHouses The same people who hold whites as slaves today stood in front of the door of all white schools in a mob when they dared to let blacks in? Did they also pass laws which made it nearly impossible for blacks to vote? Or make blacks sit in the back of the bus and theater or practice legal segregation? That's not even the worst part of our history. By the way, we are talking American history. There are absolutely no white slaves in America (not literally).

  • @camking88

There is one thing else black people need to realize. It is not an accident that freedom grew out of America.

It will make your blood boil to hear it, but the idea of a free society grew from the mind of the white male. Of all the races on the earth, only the white male had the dream of freedom and equality, and the white male founders of America made it possible.

Freedom was never possible in any civilized society of Asians or Africans.

  • @RealBatHouses The white male did have free society in mind, true. But that society was only meant for the white male. Blacks and women weren't so free. To its credit, though, America fixed its problems. Sadly we will never know how Africa would have evolved into the 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th, and 21st century. Slavery and colonialism robbed her of that opportunity. With all that being said, I'm glad that I'm American and there is no other country where I'd rather be.

  • @camking88 Not even Great Britain mate?

  • @Joethemonkey101 I would love to visit Great Britain. My sister even wants to live there. I want to travel all over the world. But America is my home. I couldn't even imagine living anywhere else.

  • @camking88

Furthermore, the Civil War was not fought over slavery. Slavery had nothing to do with the civil war until Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation to cut the support of Great Brittain for the Confederate South. The whites in Great Brittain had just outlawed slavery with no war and no riots. When Lincoln made slavery an issue, the people of Great Brittain forced the Crown to stop supporting the South. without the help ob the Crown, the south fell.

  • @RealBatHouses I know this already, but slavery still didn't end due to the enlightenment of white people. It was still a result of the Civil War and it still met with opposition. I think you might be confused as to why I was talking about race. I was replying to a comment that was about race, it's not like I was randomly bringing up a dark part of American history. I just can't stand someone trying to denigrate my history as if it was no big deal. I agree with you about the power issue, though.

  • @RealBatHouses (Continued) It was also different processes that people, Black and White, had to go through in order to get those laws changed. Processes that included the Civil War, boycottts, sit ins, and protests. No, not all Whites are racists, not even most Whites. Blacks know this. Plenty of credit is given where it is due to the White people who helped us with our struggle. But don't make it seem as if the collective White race didn't make life hell for Black people back then.

  • @camking88

Unless the black people and white people unite to defeat the forces that are enslaving us, our freedoms will continue to erode rapidly.

As long as the black people are patting themselves on the back over their increased roles in society, they can not see that all of society is losing, not gaining freedoms.

At this point, it is dabatable whether life on the plantation is better or worse than life in the USA in 20010 when the household income is less than $10,000.

  • @camking88

You are not even free to watch a baseball game if you don't have the money to buy the ticket.

You are not free to vote if you can't get a ride to the voting booth.

Our freedom is measured in dollars and cents.

The real income of Americans has been falling for more than 20 years and real income is crashing now.

That means our freedoms are crashing.

You said there is no white slavery in the USA.

How broke does a man need to be before you think he is a slave????

  • @RealBatHouses I agree with you. This isn't a black and white thing, its an American thing. I don't know your politics, but I have faith in Obama that he can turn things around. I'm willing to give him that chance at least. As far as slavery, what you're saying may be hyperbolic but I see where you're going.

  • Wow. I LOVE IT!

  • What a high privilege for both men. President Obama with the greatest baseball player of all-time.

  • I can't believe that there were 2 people that voted thumbs down on this video. Idiots.

  • no no no no u got it wrong the description should say The legendary Willie Mays joined by Pres. Obama

  • Willie Mays is a class act, glad to see the president give him the respect he deserves, because yes, he help paved the way.

  • America has come a long way but America still has a long way to go.

  • I was born and raised in the Bay Area I'm 55 years old. I see footage of Willie Mays In his prime I shed tears because i remember a lot of it . I'm probably the wrong person too judge their is nobody who could do every thing all around like Mays .I think of talent wise Roberto Clemente was close. Not as many homers but Roberto could do every thing else.Where Henry Aaron and Willies skills at the end weren't nearly the same in 1970 Roberto was still playing at a high level.

  • @hremdldw - you hit the proverbial nail o the head wirth that analysis of these three great players!

  • he fuckin said help us get there referring to blacks.......

  • 1st time on youtube I've been called a racist. You are joking.I wrote nothing suggesting racism. I don't know where you're from but I saw Mays, McCovey, Bonds, Cepeda and Alou hit home runs at "The Stick". You say "Stick" cuz u wanna be cool I know, but I was there at Hunter's Point in the fog looking at that tore up astro turf for many years. What is the 'racist fuck' for? That was nasty, uncalled for and inappropriate for I am only disappointed w/ Barry not judging him based on his skin color.

  • Willie Mays was the greatest baseball player ever. Hit for average, for power (660 home runs), on base percentage, stole bases, ran bases w/acumen, great fielder, didn't wear batting gloves. Was he an all-star 24 times? I think so. AND NO STEROIDS. Ted Williams only cared about himself and his hits. He isn't even in the top ten because he couldn't field and he didn't care that he couldn't field. He never practiced fielding! Why couldn't Barry Bonds be more like his Godfather? A crying shame.

  • you should watch the hbo doc on ted...you are being a bit unfair to him

and bonds was much like his godfather...until he looked around and saw everyone else juking the system

tell me why bonds should face pitchers who are juicing, and not look for the added edge

and i suggest you should talk to willie about greenies

mays should be the homerun king...playing at the polo grounds and the stick killed his chances

  • I'm not that interested in Ted W. but I did hear him say on tape that all he wanted to do was hit. That isn't the attitude of a team player. Sure, I'll call Willie up right now and ask him about greenies. WTF? Is that speed? I don't know and i don't care. Bonds shouldn't have done steroids because it was a crime & look what it did to him and the game's fans. So what if the pitcher is juicing. That makes it right? Bonds is hated while Willie is loved. Bonds can't get a job in baseball. He's done.

  • if the only thing that obama accomplishes is making willie proud...that is enough for me

willie is my hero....the greatest ballplayer ever

my apologies to ted williams fans...but ted never had to play half his games in the polo grounds and the stick

and willie is a total gentleman....today's sports stars have alot to learn from him

  • A - freaking - MEN!

  • This is so great!
