Dude this is great! Back in 2000, I was 7 and my sister was 5. I chickened out, but I remember my sister returned crying and my dad saying he couldn't believe that was at Disney. I'm here now 19 years old and just rode Stitch. It was alright, but kinda lame and boring and it really made me want to see what ride could be so intense at Disney to make my sister cry 12 years ago. I wish they has kept this!
It wasn't even a ride, they just locked you in because they knew you would try to bolt...LOL I am going next week to Disney and I was hoping it was still there..I didn't know they got rid of it until now.. =( It was awesome..They did a good job freakn ya out..

Oh I have good memories of this ride, I'm so sad they replaced it!! It was SO SCARY!! This video was shot with night vision so you can't get the absolute blackness when the lights went off. When it was completely dark after the alien escapes from the tube, you could feel the wind on your head from its wings beating and your shoulder harness would press into your shoulders as the alien "landed" on your harness. I'm shaking as I recall this ride, it was that scary, but so much fun.

This ride is pretty creepy when you first ride it, but boy it is blast when you can scare people. It was awesome... Random seats have air burst on your neck and legs..... And some seats have the beast lashing its tongue on the back of your neck. FUN!

they replaced it bc kids were scared and parents complained in the masses about it. Stiches great escape is the same concept except more friendly the preshow is the same as the original encounter just re-done with the cartoon element in it. In fact, stiches version went thru like 4 versions before the final one that they have now bc people once again said it was too scary for young ones and blah blah blah

@Ironcap8 This show is unique in the fact that it's based on senses; it's what you DON'T see that gets the scares. Effects included the blood of the attacked worker dripping from the rafters and the feeling of the creature breathing and drooling on your neck.
It was a really awesome show, and a great display of what Disney was capable of.

it is the disney company..they are changing everything..it´s all going to be just for kids. the alien encounter changed...the downtown disney discos closed. all the good things for adults are closing down. i was a guest 6 times in disney world. i am from germany. 2006 i realized they changed alien encounter, that dissapointed me because my family and son where never in it. 2011 downtown disney was totally dissapointing for us. we are fed up travelling to wdw and paying thousands of dollars :-(
they should bring this back for halloween or give it to universal studios or something. its a shame for disney to scrap such a attraction that left such an impact, albeit a frightening one.

This is, without a doubt, the scariest ride ever to have been at Disneyworld. Much scarier than Tower Of Terror. When you saw the alien with you own eyes, it was a LOT scarier than on videos on Youtube LOL. The screams you hear are definitely legit screams. But it was so much fun, especially if you were with a group of people. I am so bummed that this is gone.

This shut down because parents took their kids on a ride that had signs all over that said "NO KIDS UNDER 13". Too many parents complained that their children got too scared and they turned it into a pussy leelo and stich ride. Because of you parents i never got to go on this awsome looking ride.

I went on this when I was 8. When they were lowering the lapbars, I made sure I had enough room so I could get out of my seat....and then I escaped and was heading for the exit.
That was the most amazing show I'd ever been too! Went to Disney in 96-97 was the best show/scary thing I've been to yet! Not scared of much but that was good 10-10 bring it back Disney !!!
@brett84c This type of attraction was meant for older audiences. When you strap a child in a chair in a dark room and spray stuff at them, you can guarantee they will be terrified. Changing the alien from a menace to a comic makes no difference to younger audiences.
This terrified me when I was 10. I would have liked to have tried it again though now I'm older, shame it got closed down and replaced with a kids ride. Disney shouldn't get caught up in the desire to bring in too many new things, the old classics are the best. Pirates of the Carribean was better before they incorporated the movie characters and Space Mountain was better before they changed it recently. I deinitely have no interest in the Avatar hype.

Damn, I'll never forget this. I was 5 when I rode this cause I wasnt scared of the movies. As soon as it went black, I cried my butt off. To make matters worse, as soon as the worker got killed my dad screamed in my face to get a laugh and then the tongue licked the back of my neck. From that day on I slept with a light on for 6 years.
I remember running straight to see that on my only trip to Florida and it had literally JUST closed down for "maintenance" better known as it's transition to Lilo and Stitch. Gah!
I rememeber when II went on this, I was really young, I thought it was like one of those 3D show things.. I remember this ride or theater presentation (whatever you want to call it) and it scared the crap out of me those years ago. After that, my brother and I were shaking, We want to go now. As much as I dont like most stuff that is PG, this wasnt PG at all.

OMG...this ride scared the shit out of me when I was 8. I closed my eyes the entire time and I did not say a word. Hell, I was still afraid even after I got OFF the ride.
I saw that...The day before they shut it down. I wanted to go back the next day, but they permanently closed it. I was heart-broken, but whatever. (I went back the next year and expected something better, only to find some crap show called "Stitches Great Escape!" I went in and it sucked. Bigtime.)
I remember this ride. Me and my mom sat next to each other and when i felt the alien breathing on me: "FUUUUUUUUUU...." *Mom stares at me* "UDGESICKLE!"
For some reason, I think I went on when I was 3 (before they changed the robot bit) and loved every minute of it, and then when I was 10 and went on I near shit myself. Not sure where the change came but either way I wish I could ride it again :(

This terrified me when I was 10. I would have liked to have tried it again though now I'm older, shame it got closed down and replaced with a kids ride. Disney shouldn't get caught up in the desire to bring in too many new things, the old classics are the best. Pirates of the Carribean was better before they incorporated the movie characters and Space Mountain was better before they changed it recently. I deinitely have no interest in the Avatar hype.

Damn, I'll never forget this. I was 5 when I rode this cause I wasnt scared of the movies. As soon as it went black, I cried my butt off. To make matters worse, as soon as the worker got killed my dad screamed in my face to get a laugh and then the tongue licked the back of my neck. From that day on I slept with a light on for 6 years.

For those who say this looks lame or not as good as stitch, it was taken with a night vision camera so the effects are ruined. Trust me, Stitch is no comparison to this one.

I remember when I was little (around 8) this ride scared me so much then the next time I went in my dad said "just see the funny side of it because it's not real" and after that I always found it funny. Why couldn't other parents tell their children that or just not take their children on it! Stitch is rubbish in comparison to this ride!! Bring back Alien Encounter!!

I saw that...The day before they shut it down. I wanted to go back the next day, but they permanently closed it. I was heart-broken, but whatever. (I went back the next year and expected something better, only to find some crap show called "Stitches Great Escape!" I went in and it sucked. Bigtime.)

For some reason, I think I went on when I was 3 (before they changed the robot bit) and loved every minute of it, and then when I was 10 and went on I near shit myself. Not sure where the change came but either way I wish I could ride it again :(
