Hello, I'd like to use this video in an online article about Canadian roller derby. I've tried to contact you via messaging. If you get this, please message me.
This video is really awesome. I'm filming a roller derby documentary, and I want to something like this to explain the rules. I wonder if there are any video tutorials on how to produce these kinds of effects.
@SpunkyLamb Hi! I´m from colombia, and I really like Roller derby, I want to learn more about it so...it would be great if u show me ur documentary. PS. I´m a Filmmaker and a graphic design, by the way. THNX. :3
@ForestShaner Not quite. I don't think there is one "lesbo" on my roller derby league and even if there was, that is just plain stupid to stereotype the sport like that.
im 14,., they should make a roller derby team for minors :\ ohwell once im old enough im going to try out, its my dream. lmfao one question,. does anyone no if you can have piercings ? i have 3 on my lip, my nose, eyebrow, and size double 0 gauges in each ear,., and i assume by the time im old enough to try out ill have more.
@AshleyKellyD hey! im training in a derby team in my local area and nobody cares about piercings in general, but since it's all about hitting and blocking and shoving and there's gonna be a lot of falls (hard ones too), it's best to remove the piercings that you feel may injure you while you learn how to derby skate. once you feel you're very good, you can put them back on
i have a septum piercing, it's very tiny so it doesn't cause me any harm when if i fall face forward :)
@DarkPanthera ok :):) thank you so much,., i was worried about that, because i always wanted to be in roller derby and it would suck if i had to take put my piercings for it.
@AshleyKellyD Many cities DO have derby (often called "brats" leagues) for younger skaters. I know at least 3 cites that have brats leagues that tend to go from approx 8 - 16 ish in age range: Rat City, Tuscon, & Texas Rollergirls (Austin). There are probably more, but those are the 3 that I know of.
@WhiteButterflied Keep your blades. I have both blades and quads depending on what mood suits. Outdoors I prefer to be on blades but for indoor rinks and derby quads are great...unless the derby track is outdoors of course.
@PunkDenny totally feel your pain. I have chronic pain, & when I did my freshie try out's & snapped my coccyx right through! I didn't realise though as it was half numb, half excruciating, & kept skating for the rest of the try-out-another 2 & 1/2 hours!! Got in, but realised it's too dangerous, given I could re-break my back & end up a quad. So got into reffing & officialing instead. Wish I could play sooo badly though!!
I apologize if I've already posted this comment, but thanks again for this video. It is so helpful when working with our new recruits, and also with our stats/NSO and volunteers. Great job!
They range from horribly bad to little boo boos, same as any other full contact sport! We just skate through it! ~Impress IntoYa, Little City Roller Girls, JC, TN~
yeah..I sound kind of scared back there..but, the truth is that..once you eat it.. you respect risks...(I burned my left shoulder and chin last summer haha) anyway..you got to set your limits, and enjoy it =).. i mean..i'ts not like" I fell and I wont ever played again"
@raggedyanne89 It's not that bad. I mean, yeah, there are injuries, but if you join a good, safety-conscious league that teaches you how to skate safely, fall correctly, etc., you should be OK. Awful injuries do happen but they're rare. More common injuries are bruises and rink rash, which happen a lot. :-)
Stkes, That is correct. Jammers are the point scorers. The job of the pack (both blockers and pivots) is to keep the opposing jammer from getting thru. Great job PPICHE3 on the video!
oooooh, I see some of the ladies from Montreal Roller Derby in that-there vid... check out some of our funny "derby of the track" videos on my account.
It also features ROC CITY ROLLER DERBY......That's Jo Jo Thrasher in the penalty box Waving hello!! Great Video!! Would love to see some photos from our bout! you did a great job!!
Really nicely done...'cept-fer I disagree with the statement that the Jammers are the most important playas on the & there is no mention of the Pivots position...just sayin' ; )
Needs a mention of mouthguards as part of the protective gear, and there's mention of the Lead Jammer ending a jam, but the video doesn't show the viewer which Jammer gets lead.
Thank you for this very well done video! I started roller derby just recently and I have been getting a lot of questions about the sport. This will be an excellent way to answer their questions.
in the pack at the front are called pivots they have a stripe on they're helmet

I see you deleted my comment. Honestly I in no way was trying to be a bitch. Was just pointing out some minor details. Sorry I clearly offended.

@tinkerjan in addition... I think it is actually very well done... like I said just minor details...

@SugarGliderWisher Any skater can indeed knock over the other team's jammer, yes. Legally, of course.

well, the dude blows one whistle then the pack skates, then a little later two whistles blow signalling the jammers to start
rocker624 2 years ago
The jammer start whistle gets blown when the last blocker (still in play) passes the pivot line.
There's times when it's advantageous for that last blocker to skate very slowly...
PoobahSCRG 2 years ago
like when you have half your blockers in the penalty box and want to use up time before the jammers start ;) haha!!

@mamadusa2A Agreed! without the pivot directing the blockers, who's there to help create gaps and help the jammer through? :)
SmashaFierce 1 year ago
@mamadusa2A I play Pivot. I know I am important.
"I'm that pivot, that means I am smarter than you"
DameFreesia 11 months ago
@mamadusa2A AMEN! Without the blockers, jammers would just be speed skaters! :)
(Some leagues don't use Pivots, just 4 blockers ... altho this league very obviously DOES have Pivots. )
(They also forgot to mention mouthguards ... )
Overall tho - a very nice intro video for Flat Track, WFTDA style! :)
