  • oh my god I'm going to get my dvd set tomrrow at my job site. I order the wb our gang set and also the little rascals remasterd version. But I wish I got all 221 episode instead but I will stick on what I got. Great vblog 5 stars.

  • Thanks for the mention Matt. I pulled a few of the silent shorts because I updated those ones with more footage, but never got around to posting them yet. I need to get on the ball and post some more soon. As far as Laughsmith is concerned, I found an update from June 2009 from the guy that runs it, saying that they're still in legal litigation and can't comment on when the dvds will be released. Not good.

  • I was glad tro give your channel a plug! I know many of us Our Gang fans really appreciate your efforts!

As for the Laughsmith set, I was worried about the legal stuff screwing things up, which is really sad and frustrating. I hope for the best.

    Thanks!

  • that was relly awsome, i love watching silent and black and white films more than normal films at times, its just really cool and enjoyable, (plus the classics rock) and i watched the whole thing haha, i didnt even notice it ws 20 x minutes long until it was over XD

  • Great! I was afraid that most people would not watch because it is rather long (and I must've sounded like I was rambling on). I am glad you enjoyed the video.

    Thanks!

  • Thank you, Larry, for watching and commenting! Yayy!!!

  • You are very astute on the subject of movies and the history thereof for such a young guy Matt. You did your homework.

    5 ***** for that

    Paul

  • Thanks, Paul! I am a BIG fan of early film comedies, from the Keystone Comedies up through Abbott & Costello, and further. My favorite period is the 1920's and 1930's comedies. The Marx Brothers and Laurel and Hardy are my absolute faves, but Our Gang is close, and I love pretty much all that Hal Roach Studios put out.

  • The derby is a tell tale sign of all that. It represents so much. Chaplin, Laurel and Hardy, and Abbott and Costello just to name a few. I love derby's. I wanted one when I was a kid and my parents would just laugh at me. A trend that seemed to continue. : )

Is that a real one or a Halloween derby and if it's real, where did you get it?

    All the best,

    Paul

  • It's real. I got it from a hat shop through eBay. I had wanted one for some time, just as a keepsake, but then I created a character for "The Happy Show" named Doofy Dan. Doofy Dan is an old-style silent film comedian character, and the first video I made with him I used a cheap plastic hat, but I really wanted a real derby. So, I got one, and I use it to host the show, too, in addition to wearing it for my vlogs.

  • Oh, and one thing I forgot to mention: When I was getting ready to buy the derby, I had to figure out my hat size. I found out I have a big head! LOL!

    -- Matt

  • that's ok. just about everyone on youtube has a big head, myself included. : )

    The derby's awesome.

  • oooh might have to get me some of them

  • I'd think you'd enjoy them! Thanks, Evil!

  • think it was in 1928 when silent to talkies .are they do the silent ourgang on DVD

  • There were some tests with sound film throughout the mid 1920's, and "The Jazz Singer" is noted for being the first full sound talkie feature film. That was in 1928, as you note. What I was pointing out was that by 1929 almost all films were being recorded with sound.

There are some silent "Our Gang" films on the old Cabin Fever VHS tapes, and a few here and there on some other DVDs put out by smaller companies, but unfortunately no official collections, other than bootlegs. Thanks, Kate!

  • I ran out of room before I could write "Yayy!!!" LOL!

    -- Matt

  • Whoops! I double-checked, as I thought I might be off a year, and I was! "The Jazz Singer" was released in 1927, not 1928. D'Oh!

BTW, there is a cool short film with Eddie Cantor from, I believe 1925, which I put on an episode of "The Happy Show," and can also be seen on YouTube on other channels, where Eddie is telling jokes and singing for an early sound film test.

  • Great to see you again, Matt! I grew up watching The Little Rascals on TV airing on KTLA during the King World era (I actually have a few VHS tapes of the shows taped from the 1980s). Yes, the prints are bad. I am happy to have those Cabin Fever VHS and one DVD of shorts and they look great and uncut, too. Plus, one public domain DVD I bought for 99 cents. Great video.

  • The Cabin Fever collection was AWESOME quality! I wish that the Genius Products DVD collection had been made from those prints, but it is still worth picking up if you are a fan.

    Thanks for the comment!
