I ignore the sarcastic mocking comments here - Odomor, I thank God for your sons' candidness, honesty and his testimony for Christ. If more people in the defense forces opened up to God as your son has the military would make WISER decisions & Gods favour would be upon our nations. For those that continue to mock - re the 'shitbag' comment - there comes a day and time of reckoning in everyone's life when we cant save ourselves EVEN the defense forces. His too, will come. I hope he finds Jesus.
Congratulations and thank you for your service. God is great!!! I left for Navy Boot Camp two days after I turned 18. It was very tough at first. I wanted to go home so bad. I was young and fresh out of high school. But God was with me every step of the way and I could feel his presence through all the hard times. All praise to Him!!!!
im going to MEPS this week and once im done with that im in. im excited to see where the navy will take me and experiences i will encounter. i am christian this video inspires me more
I'm a Christian also, heading to Great Lakes in two days, also coming in as a CTI. Nice to hear what your son had to say. I'll be going on to the Language Institute in November. God bless.
Thanks for visiting my YouTube page. I'm pretty sure it would be against the law for the Navy to force a recruit to attend any religious service. When I was in the Navy over 38 years ago, I think I only attended one chapel service. My son, as you saw in the video, attended every time he could. You may find that you would find comfort in attending such a service. It's totally up to you.
It's not mandatory, but the chapelins do more then just preach. Sometimes you might be stuck listening to a human rights lecture, or somthing. And ofcourse they will sometimes talk about God during. But they don't mean any harm by it.
My husband had a very hard time in boot camp also and the church they had there was not very good. Thankfully he has very strong faith and God helped him through that time and God is stil helping us while hes in the Navy now.
Thank you for your sacrifice. Its people like my husband and your son that are the heroes of this world.
odno. i feel you. but im in the navy now. but when i joined the service i was in the marines. if he is cryn about navy bootcamp.. god knows what would have happened in the marines. no disrespect. but this is a classic "shitbag" recruit. i went thru 13 weeks of hell with di's in my face and i never cryed once. i signed up knowing what i wanted. Semper Fi. Ssgt Wollam
Dear sir, I'm offended that you referred to my son as a "classic shitbag recruit." He got through boot camp with flying colors and went on to score well in Arabic at the Defense Language Institute.
I appreciate your service, but not the undue criticism you gave my son. As a sailor back in the early 70s, I was taught to respect the Corps, and indeed I do.
@btodalew9890 Best of luck. CTI is a lot of work but I'm sure it's rewarding. DLI in Monterey is a great place to go to "A" school. I visited my son there several times and we both loved it.
My son got out of the Navy at the completion of his six year enlistment. He's now majoring in Applied Linguistics at Georgia State in Atlanta.
Honestly, different people have different feelings. Just because you're a "badass" staff sergeant doesn't make you better than anyone. If anything you should be humble around the ones that serve with you. If anything being man enough to admit you cried makes you more you more rad than anything, be a real marine and show some respect.
@lolchango Everyone handles stress differently, bro. Someone people (like myself) are absolutely blown away by someone yelling at them; tack on sleep deprivation, family separation, and daily performance related stress and presto - you have A LOT of stress. If this young Sailor found strength in Jesus Christ (praise God) then good on him. I really doubt he's a "shitbag recruit." He sounds like a normal kid to me. Congrats on your hard work, Sailor. -Petty Officer Knippel
@HappyRoadCone. I know may be confusing to some readers, but I am the owner of this YouTube account and the young sailor in the video is my son. He wrapped up his six year enlistment almost two years ago now, and is well on his way through college on the GI bill. He was a great sailor and is an outstanding young man. The Navy was good for him, and me, as I served from 1971 to 1975, stationed aboard the USS Conserver (ARS-39) home ported in Pearl Harbor.
Hey otolle420, I deleted the second comment you made because it was inappropriate. I'd appreciate it if you would not dishonor my son by using profanity on this page. He serves his country proudly and doesn't deserve to have the page his video appears on defaced with such comments.
If you are in the Navy, I appreciate your sacrifice. I proudly served as an Engineman aboard the USS Conserver (ARS-39) in Vietnamese waters during the sumer of 1972. I wouldn't trade my enlistment for anything.
god is for strength, courage, and support. Not protection. Don't even try to tell me to spend sometime in the middle east I lived there. It's ironic that "tool" is in your name.
Here's a tip...on Sundays during "Holiday Routine" where u get time to do whatever...most people TALK...anywho use your time wisely and go to CHAPEL!!
Yeah, I was at boot camp from 10-28-08 to 12-09-08. God helped me so much, even when I was discharged. I was the RCPA of 036 and wouldn't change it for the world. Hoorah!
I'm 24 and Tuesday is my ship date for boot camp, and tonight really being the last night with family and friends kinda has me feeling a little anxious and overwhelmed. I spent many hours wondering whether my decision to join the Navy was a good choice in my life. I just have to trust in the Lord to take care of me.
I'm 18 and I'm venturing to boot camp with a 24 year old...we more than likely will be mustered in the same division...but I am so scared of boot camp...faith really is all you need for motivation.
Excuse me for making assumptions, but the video on your YouTube account entitled "My fiance and I" has a young man dressed as though he is in the Navy. If that young man isn't you, I apologize.

No it's not mandated. You just have the option to go to a number of diverse services if you want on Sunday mornings.
