I thought you said that every episode was an essential part of the overall story. So why hate the Nikki and Paulo episode? That was the start of the 3rd seasons comeback. It was a good episode even though it was not about any of the main characters. Plus they did have them in a couple of episodes before and, and if they hadn't explained what was happening then people would be asking about it now.
i got to eat lunch with the crew of lost they were filming in kahalu'u we were standing in line for my little cousins football sign ups and they were all there under a tent with a shit load of food lol the actors weren't there though just the film crew i guess they were in the back roads filming at the time
i think there's a good chance john locke could turn out to be jacob's replacement for 3 reasons: 1) Ben has repeatedly mentioned that john is "special" 2) Eloise mentions that to return to the island, events that led them there must be recreated... Jacob visits all of the candidates to lead them to the island...john does the same thing throughout season 5.

The bag was Ilana's and has Jacobs ashes. As for Caeser & Ilana, I always felt they were Season 5 & 6's version of Nikki & Paulo... Minor characters that I never connected with and never cared for any of those characters. YMMV, of course.

As a Lostie since episode 1 and having watched twice all episodes over the years,I cannot agree with the writter in the prelude season.
It seems clearly that they show will leave us all with unanswered questions for ever...which might be the creator's idea of imortalizing the show...Imagine,people 15 years from now discussing possible endings to the show...which I'm sure will happen.

I think the wispers are sounds from the spirit world. You will hear them just before someone dead is going to show themselves. I don't think they wisper, it just sounds like wispers... Hope you know what i mean. :P
James i must agree very lazy writing in this episode. If we are going to get answers to mysteries like the whispers, that have been talked about for years by us the fans, we deserve more then a one line explanation.
Have you noticed that only the characters that had died on the island recover their memories without actually meeting their 'love'? Like Charlie and Libby...moreover, I'm pretty sure that Juliet is Jack's ex wife in the alt timeline (and of course David's mother) but she will end up with Sawyer just like has happened on the island. That's why it worked.
After watching this episode the idea that the very first scene of Lost aka 'Jack waking up in the jungle' , will end up being the ultimate merging of the boom and dead world, as jack will be the last candidate that desmond meets in the boom world trying to make him see his alternative timeline, resulting in his death experience ultimately him waking up in the jungle.
Are we still right to assume that Christian Shepard when he told Michael he could go now was Jacob in the form of Christian rather than mib being christian, you know the whole Christian wears black shoes sometimes and white shoes sometimes. If that is true, than wouldn't Jacob be absolving Michael for redemtion when the frieghter blew up...if that is true than why would Michael still be in Limbo?

Hurley most definitely said "Protecting IT" and I believe the IT is FLOCKE. But then you gotta wonder "Why would Hurley protect Flocke? I think Jacob is telling Hurley what to do. I think Jacob is protecting Flocke through Hurley. And yes I agree with everyone it's Jacob's ashes. Again, Instructed by Jacob to protect the ash because Hurley will need to use it at some point.
I thought the little boy looked older. As blondes often go darker with age perhaps this is the reason for the change of hair colour. Is it just me or does he kinda look like a young Jacob?

I agree with the lazy writing re: the whispers just as I was disappointed in the Richard episode where Jacob asks Richard "Do you want a job?" I think it would have been much better to have seen the relationship and job develop naturally instead of just offering him a job. They spent too much time on Richards backstory when they could have spent it on the development of the relationship between Richard and Jacob.
Also, if Desmond really did think that Flocke was John Locke, do you think he ran over Locke in the Boom world to kind of get "even" with him, in addition to "showing" him something?
this episode was just kind of okay to me too, and the explanation of the whispers and the fact that Michael was "stuck" wasn't all that great; I thought Michael trying to save the people on the freighter was supposed to be redemptive to his character. We still don't know why the whispers are heard at certain times and not others. Also, I thought the bag that Hurley saw were Jacob's ashes that Ilana had gathered, not the diamonds, but I DID only watch it once.

Mr. James, you kind of glossed over the whole "Desmond mentioning Charlie to Ben." This is supporting evidence about his cognition in both the Boom and Dud world (because in Boom world, he doesn't have a son named Charlie. It's too much of a coincidence that he come up with that name on the spot. He knows he has a son in some universe). Thoughts?
@MattTakkkkk Three minutes had a very disappointing Michael/Walt reunion combined with flimsy directions for Michael to follow to get his son back and The Variable was another episode where a simple, 30-second explanation was given to give an answer as to what has to happen with the bomb to fix things.
I feel like the only person that could not stand Sawyer and Juliet together. Don't hate, just my opinion. Don't worry though James; they'll meet at the coffee shop and "go dutch"--probably even at the same coffee shop Penny mentions.
Your the only other person besides myself that described a episode like a chapter in a book. Each season is like a Harry Potter book. They each have their own story, that over all tells a larger story, so each episode is a chapter. A chapter that is one stepping stone to The End.

The problem with "The Whispers Answer" wasn't the answer itself - personally, I was expecting an answer along the lines of that - the problem was the way it was done. It was quick, poorly acted, and illogically put randomly in the scene. Seriously though, this is how they explained one the largest and most compelling mysteries of the show :
It's dark. A group of people with torches are following Hurley, their assumed leader, as they trek through the deep jungle. They aren't quite sure where they are going, or why; but they hold new found confidence in their new leader; who leads them with large strides as if he already accomplished his mission. It's quite. Besides the thumping of their hearts, the only noises heard are the soles from their feet and from the fire dancing off the handle they hold in their hands.
All of a sudden they hear whispers. The group quickly looks in all angels, pivoting their eyes each and every way faster than their heads can follow. Cold chills begin to shiver every hair strait up. The whispers get louder...louder....Then suddenly their brave leader, Hurley, stops!
He says, "Guys, don't worry! Even though I have been talking to dead people since the very first day we got to this island, I think I just figured it out, dude! The whispers are coming from right over here, behind that tree! Wait here, dudes." Hurley points his finger and starts walking. 15 yards later and behind a tree he finds his dead friend Micheal bent over with his hands circled around his mouth in whisper mode.
His dead friend says, "Ah, congrats! you caught me! I - we - are the whispers. We've been hiding behind this tree the entire time! Sorry I forgot to mention it to you earlier when we spoke. I guess it kind of slipped my mind. But guess what?! I hooked up with that fine hoe, Nikkie! Boone bet me twenty bucks I couldn't. What a fool! But anyways, can you help a brotha out....will ya tell that Libby bitch 'I'm sorry'? And I am also sorry for cock-blocking you. Lets hug it out, bitch!
As Micheal and Hurley hug, Micheal says, "Alright well, I gotta get back to my whispering post behind this tree. Thanks whitey! I'll catch you on the flip side. Now, give a brotha a pound!"
The scene ends with Dead Micheal pounding fists with Hurley, the new leader.
And that, my friends, is how one of the greatest mysteries of the legendary show, LOST, was explained. awesome... I guess? (Sorry for the multiple posts - there was no possible way I could get all that in one post. haha)
Tip of the week: Use the Closed Captioning feature on your tv when dialouge is hard to catch and rewinding doesn't help. It solves those little mysteries like... is Hugo protecting "us" or "it?" Now, I'll have to go fire up the TiVo and check on that one for myself. Love you, Mr. James!!

What's wrong with WHO? We know why Libby was there... and now we ALSO know that the initial catalyst for her fragile psyche eventually caused her to lose sight of reality altogether. According to the shrink, anyway.

I think the reason dead-Libby didn't approach Hurley on the island is bc she isn't on the island. If what Michael says is true (that the ghosts that Hugo can speak to are actually still stuck on Earth because they haven't completed their purpose) then that would mean Libby has passed on and has already completed her purpose. Which I believe that her purpose was to give Desmond The Elizabeth so that he would eventually crash on the island. I believe this is why Hugo has never spoken to dead-Libby
Libby said she was at the hospital under her own will. That may be why she was able to leave the hospital and get on 815 in the dud world. (If you assume the reason for going to the hospital was different, but that she still went under her own will) In the Boom world, she saw a Mr. Clucks commercial and started having the memories. She thought she was crazy and admitted herself into Santa Rosa. But why did Hurley have to donate 100K to see her if she could just leave whenever she wants? hmm...
I love your videos man, but this one asked way too many unnecessary questions. -That bag was filled with Jacob's ashes that Illana collected, not diamonds - We can make assumptions about things like "is Desmond following a list or vision"... I'm thinking vision, but there's no reason to speculate. -Hurley's line was "I'm protecting us." I doubt the writers want us questioning things like what's "it" this late in the season. -We cannot nitpick @ things like the kid's hair, it'll confuse us more.
PS: i also got to say that it was awsome when locke got ran over just so he would get a glimse of the original timeline...cause that is how it was explaind in happily ever after. they have to get a near death experience. and dont be mad at me for saying these things but you really ruined this for me!

While I liked this episode more then you I do wish that they had focused a little on Hurley and Charlies relationship. I know it seems to be about getting people to remember their great romantic love but I was a fan of the Charlie/Hurley friendship and in this Hurley-centric episode I would have liked to have seen boom world Hurley get some of those memories back.
This might be totally unrelated but the little boy changing hair colors reminded me of the Lord of the Flies--the blonde boy was the "fair boy." Maybe the hair change represents two different sides. Like, one side of that boy is working for Jacob and the other side is working for the MIB.

I thought the little boy looked older. As blondes often go darker with age perhaps this is the reason for the change of hair colour. Is it just me or does he kinda look like a young Jacob?

I agree with the lazy writing re: the whispers just as I was disappointed in the Richard episode where Jacob asks Richard "Do you want a job?" I think it would have been much better to have seen the relationship and job develop naturally instead of just offering him a job. They spent too much time on Richards backstory when they could have spent it on the development of the relationship between Richard and Jacob.

this episode was just kind of okay to me too, and the explanation of the whispers and the fact that Michael was "stuck" wasn't all that great; I thought Michael trying to save the people on the freighter was supposed to be redemptive to his character. We still don't know why the whispers are heard at certain times and not others. Also, I thought the bag that Hurley saw were Jacob's ashes that Ilana had gathered, not the diamonds, but I DID only watch it once.

Hurley most definitely said 'protecting us'...clear as a bell, don't overthink things. And the pouch Hurley took is the same one Ilana used for Jacob's ashes. Go check E4; no diamonds mate, it's all with Miles. Incidentally though ($) is the upper case of 4. Coincidence? I don't think so.

Mr. James, you kind of glossed over the whole "Desmond mentioning Charlie to Ben." This is supporting evidence about his cognition in both the Boom and Dud world (because in Boom world, he doesn't have a son named Charlie. It's too much of a coincidence that he come up with that name on the spot. He knows he has a son in some universe). Thoughts?

The problem with "The Whispers Answer" wasn't the answer itself - personally, I was expecting an answer along the lines of that - the problem was the way it was done. It was quick, poorly acted, and illogically put randomly in the scene. Seriously though, this is how they explained one the largest and most compelling mysteries of the show :

Tip of the week: Use the Closed Captioning feature on your tv when dialouge is hard to catch and rewinding doesn't help. It solves those little mysteries like... is Hugo protecting "us" or "it?" Now, I'll have to go fire up the TiVo and check on that one for myself. Love you, Mr. James!!

I think the reason dead-Libby didn't approach Hurley on the island is bc she isn't on the island. If what Michael says is true (that the ghosts that Hugo can speak to are actually still stuck on Earth because they haven't completed their purpose) then that would mean Libby has passed on and has already completed her purpose. Which I believe that her purpose was to give Desmond The Elizabeth so that he would eventually crash on the island. I believe this is why Hugo has never spoken to dead-Libby

Libby said she was at the hospital under her own will. That may be why she was able to leave the hospital and get on 815 in the dud world. (If you assume the reason for going to the hospital was different, but that she still went under her own will) In the Boom world, she saw a Mr. Clucks commercial and started having the memories. She thought she was crazy and admitted herself into Santa Rosa. But why did Hurley have to donate 100K to see her if she could just leave whenever she wants? hmm...

I love your videos man, but this one asked way too many unnecessary questions. -That bag was filled with Jacob's ashes that Illana collected, not diamonds - We can make assumptions about things like "is Desmond following a list or vision"... I'm thinking vision, but there's no reason to speculate. -Hurley's line was "I'm protecting us." I doubt the writers want us questioning things like what's "it" this late in the season. -We cannot nitpick @ things like the kid's hair, it'll confuse us more.

While I liked this episode more then you I do wish that they had focused a little on Hurley and Charlies relationship. I know it seems to be about getting people to remember their great romantic love but I was a fan of the Charlie/Hurley friendship and in this Hurley-centric episode I would have liked to have seen boom world Hurley get some of those memories back.
