i hate to say this but as a kid i always thought these guys were saying ``amen.`` Now you never hear these guys on the radio so I couldn`t trace the song`s real name or the band. but yeah finally found it and reminded me of how it was such a good song.
I does make me wonder why Men Without Hats were not greater than Safety Dance? Ivan and Stephan must have written tons of great songs -- every one of them could have been as big a hit as Safety Dance. And they excelled in every style of music, not too shabby.
Ivan now lives a quiet life in Victoria, British Columbia and raises a child with his wife. I still have the original Pop Goes The World CD I bought in 1987. I also have the original CD of The Adventures of Women & Men Without Hate in the 21st Century from 1989. I also have the original Vinyl of Folks of the 80's (Part III) from 1984, I have Rhythm of Youth and Sideways on tapes. I also have a 12'' vinyl of the song Pop Goes The World (Remix) I'm glad I've never got rid of them. They are rare.
I really liked the song Safety Dance. Men Without Hats, Prefab Sprout & Scritti Politti were three bands I really liked from the mid 80s. Thanks Marny for sending this to me.
Mr.Cocolabine, for National 7, it's really the Doroschuk who sing...there from Outremont in Montreal and Ivan Doroschuk at the time speak french really well. There from CANADA_QUEBEC_MONTREAL_OUTREMONT. A great Montreal band...the band where form in Montreal...even if there born (not sure?)In the USA, it's a canadian Band anyway.
Ivan Doroschuk is of Ukrainian origin and is the frontman of Men Without Hats. Doroschuk was born in Illinois, and at a young age he and his family moved to the city of Montreal, Quebec, where his mother became a member of the music faculty at Montreal's McGill University..... I was merely responding to the comment that someone made stating that they he was "French." Being "French" means your ancestors came from France. His did not. It is perfectly reasonable to learn the local language.
The brothers Ivan and Stefan Doroschuk are actually born in the US (which makes them American) and moved to Montreal as kids. They are not French Canadian. My cousin went to Montreal high school with them.
Ok. yes. they were born in Illinois, but they moved 2 Canada like a year after they were born, so them being born in the states didnt really affect them. But yes, they were born in the states. Makes me proud 2 live in illinois, even tho they spent like a year here. lol.
What! The Aussies are trying to steal Men Without Hats from French Canada. I Wonder if somewhere in Australia several Men At Work push this international pop agenda?Mmmnnn...
LOL Australian? Yeah they're from the french quarter of Sydney, where the Big Bonhomme hides out. :D This is an awesome song, Sideways is their best though.
No Men Without Hats is definitely Canadian (check their official website) Also I have all of their albums and they have many songs in French (as they are French Canadian) I find it unlikely a band from Australia would record in French.
Good question...also, unless it was a widespread error that was mistakenly posted in the trades back in the day, the band's actually Australian, I'm sure I have that in an old Rock Video mag.
Granted, it "doesn't really matter" (to quote a *real* Canadian band ;) ), I never even knew about this good song, I didn't know they came out with anything after Pop Goes the World. A shame...
Thanks for posting this! Love the song, but I always felt the lyrics were too 'heavy' for such a 'cheery' sounding tune. Kinda like singing 'walking on sunshine' to the music of 'philadelphia.'
love it, i would like to purchase this song but can't find it anywhere
Help!!!!!

This is one of their best songs. It didn't get the attention it deserved. I love deep lyrics. It makes a song more meaningful and intelligent.
Oh... and Ivan is quite hot in this video :)

I said, hey men
Quit pushin your women 'round
I say, hey -Hey men
Quit knockin' your children down
'Cause it's all in the things
That you do with what you are
So, hey Hey men
Whatcha been doing so far?

Amazing lyrics but too deep for a Top 40 hit. . .
