  • Of course amano is best, if you take a close look almost any of nomura's art has background, and almost all of amano's has, it justs means to me that amano thinks and works harder in the idea and result, and also, it seems like amano creates not only the look but the personality as well with the illustration

  • 1:22 looks like Robert Pattison from "Twilight", lol

  • Amano's characters faces kinda scary u know, all the same (expression and eyes) i guess

  • I think Amano's art has more soul in them. They are much more unique than Nomura's. Some of his artworks shows the character's personalities better than Nomura. Like his rendition of Kuja..you can clearly see his narcissistic personality lol. I also love Nomura's art, but I enjoy seeing Amano's pieces more.

  • I see a poser!

  • i would suggest Nomura is the character designer

and Amano would be a game cover designer look at the 3:01 ... i mean Amano is creative and cool

    buts still i'm with Nomura

  • Nomura is better for character design as his works are more clearly defined and he is very good at designing clothing, but amano is far and away the better artist.

  • @sunset261

are you serious nomura drew my fav final fantasy but i like amano a lil better nomuras clothing can be horriable look at ff10 12 and 13 but nomura i still like

  • I've read that not too many people liked Nomura's design of Kefka. What do you think?

  • i think i prefer nomura, his art is a lot more clear and more modern, but some of amano's stuff is gorgeous his tidus is amazing

  • Did he seriously say winnder?

Amano's art is very beautiful on paper, but in-game character models don't even look like their original artworks.

I know graphics in Amano's era aren't as good as now, but even in the FFVI FMV Terra looks nothing like her Amano artwork.

Nomura characters on the other side, look exactly like their in-game models, specially Kingdom Hearts characters.

So yeah, my vote goes for Nomura.

On paper, Amano is better, thought.

  • I adore both of their art works <3 Very inspiring!

  • Amano's Sephiroth was better. Nomura's Kefka was better. Nomura's Squall was better. Amano's Seifer was better. Don't know who that is at 2:19 but Amano's rendition is better. Nomura's Yuna is better by a little. Amano and Nomura tie on Titus. Amano's Lightning is way better.

  • i actually like amano better. he has alot more great pictures. the one with cloud on the bike is sick though

  • @greg672 look at the final fantasy after years website

  • Nomura's style fits games like FF7, FF8 and FF13, but Amano's work better with FF1-6, and FF9...

  • It's hard to say, because Nomura's works have become standard in FF, especially today, and I love him for that and his digital works. He's really evolved and developed as an artist through the years.

However, Amano's art noveau artstyle is much more traditional and surrealistic in feel, and I love it. So it's really two different styles achieving the same goal of representing a character through different styles.

I hope you can appreciate both. Not say one because it looks cute or something.

  • I like Numura better. He shaped what is the modern perception of final fantasy characters.

  • Amano's arts seem more old and it's perfect for paintings, and Nomura's arts seem more perfects in all textures and details, so I prefer Nomura... But also Amano is a great artist.

  • Comment removed

  • @futureanimator What I mean is both can make a portrait of someone but Amano's would be abstract-realism and Nomura's would be fantasy-reality, Amano's work is considered more artsy (like the guy in the comments below) only because he has a traditional style with it while Nomura has thatmodern VG style that is seen in FF and KH.

  • well, amano is an artist on his own, no doubt, but not a great video game designer, nomura has his game art but can't really draw outside something for square. amano's art is unique and nomura's style is eye catching. different styles, one is for game and ones not.

  • @JEYZiLLA nomura is far more cartoony than amano.

  • @JEYZiLLA Really it depends because some of Nomura's art is realistic but yeah Amano's art is far more realistic than Nomura's art.

  • You sorry pieces of shit (xcuse my language, faggots)

There isn't even a reason to ask such a question every well-educated, non-emo person would look at the art of these two, and a infant would point to Amano's, Nomura fucked up VII, made Emo Hearts and then delivered a pile of steaming shit roght down the throats of all you little morons (well, if mommy bought it for you that is)

You little morons go ahead and callme out on this, because it is simple logic, Amano draws art, Nomura draws anime

  • both are fucking amazing

  • Nomura's artwork is something you could learn to draw in a typical anime/manga art book. Amano's artowkr fits Final Fantasy much better thna Noimura's typical anime/J-popart that would work for almost any oter jrpg now days. The only time I think Nomura did great as a character designer was Parasite Eve, it seems like the only fame where he didn't add his belt and leather fettish in the artwork.

  • es una confrontacion que no deveria hacerse, ambos son muy buenos en lo que hacen

  • School Rankings do not measure a person's intelligence, such as the amount of awards earned do not proves one's superiority!

  • I see where you're getting at with "Amano fits the fantasy portion of FANTASY" but if you haven't noticed Final Fantasy isn't just the FANTASY you have in mind. In the recent additions, final fantasy seemed to fit a more action type theme. Tetsuya Nomura better captures this fast paced theme with his modern and realistic art. Amano's art is great for more subtle Final Fantasy games. I can't Imagine his type of art along with the largely anticipated game Final Fantasy XIII Versus. Nomura FTW!

  • @andyphan500 All Nomura does is recylce his character designs, he even said that "Lightning is just a female version of Cloud". In my opinion, youc ould learn his art style from a typical "Learn how to draw manga!" book.

  • @Badfish93 You could learn it but it would take time to master his style. I'm not sticking up for him just saying there's more to just learning off someone in one try you have to keep practcing that certin style to master it.

  • @futureanimatior Yes, you'd have to practice it, but not as much as other artist with oe creative designs

  • @Badfish93 Yeah like me I been practcing Hayao Miyazaki art and Digimon and I haven't mastered it yet because of the backgrounds.

  • @futureanimatior He doesn't have a style, you watch any stupid little anime out there and whaddya know it's Cloud, come on get serious.

  • @pastuiedada You're the one who is stupid you don't know what good anime is. And every artist has his or her own style you piece of shit.

  • @futureanimatior Good? anime? you see those words used together in a sentence shout emo. Seriously go suck some cock i'm sure you're a pretty lil' boy

  • I know that just about all these comments commend Amano so I think I might stick up for Nomura. Both the artists are really good, and Amano creates beautiful pictures, but he's supposed to draw concept art, and one thing I've noticed with his art is that it's pretty inconsistent. So even though Amano is a brilliant artist, Nomura keeps his art pretty consistent and as such he does do his job better.

  • @Soraventus You must not know a thing about Amano he doesen't really do concept art anymore he mainly does posters and title logo's not character concept designs get the facts right. And Tetsuya does not do a better job a lot of his characters look alike I wil admit he does a good job but not half as good as Amano. Let's see here Amano won hundreds of art awards in almost every country and Tetsuya won how many awards hmm.....None!!!

  • @futureanimatior I wasn't trying to offend Amano, and I know that he doesn't do concept art anymore. I wasn't stating that Nomura was better I like both their art equally I just thought I'd give him a compliment because everyone was saying how crappy he was. I didn't mean to sound like I was flaming.

  • @futureanimatior Who still has a job? Who do they go to when they need characters drawn up? Who is working on his own video games? Who would possibly start their own company if they really wanted to?

Not Amano, although I agree that he is great and very underrated but Nomura's vision of FF is what you think of when you generally think of FF. Well, the populace seems to. I look at both of them as representations of different eras of Final Fantasy.

  • @W0BN1AR Only the new generation think of Tetsuya when they think of Final Fantasy characters the old geenration who grew up around the founding of Final Fantasy 1 think of Amano. And yes he is very underrated Tetsuya may be doing a decent job on his games but he sure has a long way to go to be half of what Amano is. And the only reason why Square goes to Tetsuya is because they spoil him too much.

  • For example, look at the picture of Cloud on his motorcycle at 0:52. See how badass that bike looks? Now imagine how cool it would be to see that picture come to life on the big screen.

  • I mean, Nomura's art style is good; I like it. But anime art doesn't appeal to everyone. Amano's style is more abstract. The characters wear intense clothing, their facial features aren't all big-eyed and J-pop, and his landscapes are the definition of what Final Fantasy should look like. All we need is a gripping story to go along with Amano's art, and we'll have a truly unique experience.

  • @nomorerocketships Yeah but it's like I said Amano has a more life drawn style his style can go well with everything. Tetsuya is a good artist but it's just the fact that he uses anime style for something epic like Final Fantasy. I really never saw how they chosed Tetsuya to be the main character designer over Amano because truthfully. Tetsuya's art is nothing compared to Amano's.

  • They should make a Final Fantasy movie with old-school illustrated animation. I know some of you are cringing at the idea of a non-CG Final Fantasy, but it wouldn't have to be entirely devoid of computer graphics; remember "Titan A.E."? They can use CG to smooth out the hand-drawn animation, and Amano's art style could be used to make some of the most tripped-out, psychadelic animation the world's ever seen. Isn't that a good idea?

  • I like Yoshitaka Amano more than Tetsuya Nomura. Nomura's style is too much like modern-day anime; Amano's style is more trippy & imaginative. And a series like Final "FANTASY" needs artwork with more imagination than some anime person w/spiky hair.

  • @nomorerocketships Well I think only Final Fantasy 7 was really anime style. I think the others were drawn a little more realistic than anime. But I know what you mean it needs a more life drawn style to it not no anime style. We have too many things with anime and need a bit more realistic things.
