i can take Poland as an example: during 100 years (from 1815 to 1918), poland was divided betwen germany russia and austria-hungary, but the polish continued to speak polish and at the end they got their state, right
secondly, if it wasn't for the allies, it would be for the soviets cos they would never stop to germany, their goal was to spead socialism to the entire european continent.
this man doesn't have a clue of what he's talking about!
Yes but the question is why did you wait 5 years ??? And don't forget : America wasn't alone to fight Germans the Russians for example were there too. And, we French people have suffer so much from that humiliating situation, we don't need anyone to teach us how we should have respond. There is no see or ocean between France and Germany. And I know that very well i'm from Verdun ....
I wish Icould meet them someday and introduce them to my left fist you sons of whore, If it wasn't for france you would be an english colony nowadays....
you know I'm french but I consider myself as a comprehensive man yet I'm gettin' fucking tired of the "we saved your ass during WW2 you gotta help us!!!" sentence.
I mean, ALL of you fucking american limp dick sucker weren't fucking born at all!
Did you read that?: YOU WERE IN THE FUCKING BALLS OF YOUR GRANDADS!!
stupid intolerance. You know what? GO eat a hamburger and drink your soda so that you could gain some more weight bitch!
This guy is not representatif of all americans. But its always by anglo saxons people we are insulting for failed at WW2(iam french). And i dont really understand that...germans, austrians..who defeated us in 1940 never insult french people like that.perhaps because they know more their history for know the frenchs defeated them too in their history. Its the history, a day a country rock, an other day its an other country....But why a focus like that on frenchs by some anglo saxons for a defeat ..
If it wasant for the french resistance, USA would have had all it's troops pinned down at the D-day, yes the frencg swowed the fortification, and if it was put together fully, may there have been 1 million US troops, you guys would of been totally destroyed.
So much for US "liberation", it was indirect teamwork.
no france would not speak german because we would be liberated by the soviet, but the allies (americans and brits) didn't want that because of their anti-comunism (the red fear).
so M. Luntz (propably from german ancestors, that's why he said that lol) don not know what he's talking about; and after all what is done, is done you can't rewrite History.
And in France, we are very greatfull toward american veterans of the battle of normandy.
For the French, during centuries, wars were real things. France experienced 1500 years of wars on her soil, and was the dominant power in Europe for centuries, when USA were still a desert populated by Indian nations, and USIANS still in the balls of their European ancestors. What US civilians knows about wars, except watching Hollywood saving Ryan craps, their asses on the sofa. Most of the French can enumerate peoples of their their families who died in wars that actually happened in their land.
@Camarale Please, you're saying French civilians know more about war than Americans. That's a good one. None of you French civilians know nothing of war. You arrogant people have yet to have a loved one die overseas, you people have yet to experience a terrorist attack. But go ahead, continue to talk about how the French are so much more educated in warfare. Personally, I find it pathetic and hilarious.
It's you who should open history books, before to spread your usual craps. France experienced only defeats the past 100 years ? Main WW1 battles were won by the French, like VERDUN in 1916. And the French lost 100000 killed in 6 weeks of fights in May/June 1940, before to give up. England was saved by the Channel, pathetic turd. Your pussies would have been crushed like others by German blietzkrieg. US army was a joke in 1940. Concerning 9/11, let me laugh. It was a BIG joke.
WW2, indochina, Algeria, first Gulf war, Rwanda, Kosovo, Afghanistan, Chad, Ivory Coast, Libya... Believe me, many braves have fallen overseas. The French have a very long experience with terrorism. 9/11 and Iraq was nothing compared to what they've been through in Algeria.
The French know more about war than we do, because of their long experience in warfare of course, but also because the fight was oftenly in their streets, their homes.
@Camarale For the past 100 years or so, the French have known nothing but defeat. When Hitler strolled into Paris, the French simply gave up, a lot of them even joined the Nazis. VICHY FRANCE ring a bell? Why are you bragging about French WWII casualties? That's not a good thing you know? Even than, I guess you forgot to list the figures of Japan-2,620,000 Germany-6,593,000 China-10,000,000 Russia-23,954,000. Now all that being said, GIGN kicks ass. But please continue to ramble on though....
The French experienced 9/11 x 1000 in WW2,with dozens cities razed to the ground, mostly by your blind pilots who killed more French civilians than German troops. Ignorant asshole.Try to catch only 10 % of French history before to talk. The French experienced 1500 years of wars in their backyards, when your mongrel inbreed was still in the balls of your European ancestors, and USA a desert populated by Indian nations. And the French are no more arrogant than your retard rednecks.
@Camarale Why do I even bother with you. You make me sick. You act as though you have a personal connection to those people who lived hundreds of years ago. YOU ARE NOT Lafayette, de Grasse, Rochambeau, or Napoleon. You personally have never experienced what war is or its effects. So please stop acting like you do.
@Camarale How come the Germans were only a few miles away from taking Paris then? The Germans almost won the war, they were BEATING the French and the Brits. England was saved by the RAF during the Battle of Britain and also by stupid decisions made by German commanders, not the channel. The French optimize the meaning of Pussy. As for the US Army, Air Force, and Navy getting crushed, I beg to differ.
Before to reach Paris,Germans lost 45000 killed and 111000 woundeds, in case you don't know. Most of the fightings were on eastern borders. Paris was declared open city after agreements with Nazi high command, because the French knows what the word destruction means, not like your clowns watching wars on TV ,their obese asses on the sofa. Concerning 9/11,the French experienced terrorists attacks in Paris years before, with many deads, but i'am not surprised you don't know it.
You reacted like a bunch of pussies on 9/11.You should have been in France in 1918 or 1945,to see the real toll of real wars, for civilians in these places. You would deserve a real war to heat your asses in your backyards,to see what war really means.Bunch of whining crybabies. It's always easy to make wars overseas, dropping bombs from 15000 feets.Zionist scum is reponsible for 9/11.Open your eyes, bunch of brainwashed ignorant pigs.Bunch of bankrupted suckers in total decline.
@Camarale If you call invading Afghanistan, and destroying an entire military in Iraq the actions of pussies, you are delusion. But thank you, you made me laugh, and you proved to me that I am stooping to your level just by talking to you. You are beneath me and inferior to me. As far as I am concerned, you are no better than the extremists trying to kill westerners. Honestly, I don't give a shit if you respond or not, but just know this, your arguments dignify French stereotypes and cliches.
Invading Afghanistan and Iraq, sure, with 7000 US fatalities, and Iraq in total chaos. This war ruined US economy. Thanks to AIPAC. The true masters in USA. And for Afghanistan, US fate will be the same than Russians, 30 years ago. WE THE JEWISH PEOPLE, CONTROL AMERICA, AND THE AMERICANS KNOW IT. Ariel Sharon. Former prime Isreali minister. Pathetic.
@Camarale Concerning 9/11, open your eyes, there is no fucking conspiracy theory. But you know what, I hope something like that happens in France, maybe then you will understand how fucked up the world really is. Don't worry your country will be Muslim before the turn of the century though. It has already begun.
I'm afraid the French are way more experienced in counter-terrorism and Islam than we are. No need to remind you that French troopers are dying in Afghanistan, fighting alongside the US. Between 2001 and 2008, there has been 15 failed terrorist attack in Paris, thanks their secret services. Now yeah, they may become an Islamic state anytime soon, but are we any better?! Our situation is even worse, with the Latin America imigration, soon we'ill kiss English goodbye.
@Camarale Talk about Reality? You need to wake up, your country is a pathetic shell of what it once was. You can't get over the fact that France is has become Americanized. You worship American movie and pop stars and play American video games. Your once proud "cultured" country is being taken over by immigrants, and the French have no influence left in the world. Your arrogance is showing. Fucking dumbass, see me when your worthy French pig. I hope you don't represent all French people.
I bet you never left New Jersey, home boy... Most Europeans are making fun of America and its altered culture. They are also aware of its declining power. They read books, they know history, they know art. Our propaganda might work in Japan, or even in Korea, but it's time for you to realize that our post-war glory is over in Europe. Instead of bashing the French, you and fellow rednecks should learn where we're coming from, and what we owe to France.
@lakoweb Jesus, why don't you just bend over. I am honestly dumbfounded. I am fully aware of the French sacrifice for our country's existence, and I will be forever grateful. But that's besides the point, for them to sit there and scoff at Americans in warfare is just plain stupid. The United States, since its conception, has been at war constantly. On top of that, to say Americans no nothing of war while images of dead and maimed marines are plastered on TV screens, is just disrespectful.
As disrespectful as you are toward the French soldiers falling in Afghanistan. Why do you generalize, have you ever been to France? How Frenchman have you actually met? There dumbfucks everywhere throughout the world, and I can tell that you're right on that line. By the way, did you know that the US batrayed France right after the revolutionary war by not paying back the war debt? How do you feel about that, sir respectful prideful?
@lakoweb@lakoweb You honestly make me sick, you truly do. I have been to France, and every Frenchman I met was a gracious host. I have no problem with France or the French, but the comments Camarale made, insulting this American generation on warfare are ridiculous. As for "BETRAYING" the French, keep in mind the US was a fledgling country who had trouble even paying back their own soldiers at that point in time. Quit living in the past. But if you want to go there, what about the Quasi-War.
@pennsforest04 The truth is that every single French knows that Americans were braves to come up to Europe and delivers us from the barbarians. I'm a waiter and every time that i had to serve customers Americans veterans from WW2, it meant something special to me just as if i had to respect them just like if they were my grand parents. And at all time American people are very pleasant persons and will be for ever welcome in France .
Their influence will ever outshines ours, and it's been like that for centuries. Do you seriously think that our Mc Donalds are going to replace Pasteur, Hugo, Bleriot, Sartre and 1500 years of excellence?! Even our beloved language, English, is the result of a long and heavy French influence du to the Norman invasion of England (over 4 centuries!). Richard Lionheart couldn't speak a world of English.
By the way, most of the video games (probably your main source of education) are actually made by French companies. Activision, Blizzard, Ubisoft, Sierra, ...
@MrZizou29kid Ummm, the Allies won, and while the French were part of the Allies, it was their country and their capital that were almost captured. You French do know that it's not a good thing to fight a war in your own country. It seems I have to go back to the fundamentals here, war in your country = bad. Civilians dying because of invading forces = bad. I guess what I am trying to get across here is you don't want to BRAG about wars being fought on your own soil, generally thats not good.
@Camarale Oh and just for the record, Sean Hannity is a stupid pig who works for an ultra conservative network. He does not speak on behalf of all Americans. I for one, am grateful of the French sacrifice during my country's formation, but DO NOT CRITICIZE AMERICANS on their knowledge of war, especially in this present day. Any one who does, especially a Frenchman, comes off as fucking dumbass who does not know what they're talking about.
The real dumfucks and arrogant are pathetic losers as you, always repeating like parrots the same dumb and crap clichés. But, we understand. Most of your brothers are a bunch of ignorant and brainwashed uneducated fucks. Travel outside your redneck shitholes, to see the world reality. Bunch of laughable clowns.
@Camarale Every American has had those god forsaken pieces of land called Iraq and Afghanistan plastered over their TV screens for almost 10 years now. I think we Americans know more than just watching Saving Private Ryan. Go back to making your "exquisite" wine and visiting the Musee de Louvre and let the Americans and Brits continue to fight wars for the preservation of the western world. At least I'll know that the Americans and Brits won't lay down their weapons and surrender.
Always the same craps, coming from so called ignorant journalists fucks.Always boring us with this WW2 antique crap, which means absolutely nothing in Europe . French and Germans are the best partners in Europe in 2010, for decades. And if these assholes wants to talk about WW2, let's go. French WW2 casualties, 600000, military and civilians, were higher than all losses of this war, on all fronts, Pacific and Europe, 416800. Included 67000 French civilians killed under allied bombings, mostly US.
notice the amount of french killed and that of americans are farely the same.
secondly, since the french helped you defeat the english 200 years before WW2 I guess that makes us even.
Thirdly explain to me whats wrong with refusing to invade a country under false affirmations and occupying it with the aim of stealing their N1 natural ressource. (theres a word for that: its "colonisation")
The sad thing is : all the anti-French movement started from the French opposition to the war in Iraq. Everybody in France knew that Bush wanted oil and that Saddam was keeping the region stable.
Bush claimed that Saddam was connected to Al Qaida. Intelligence proved it wrong.
Then Bush went after WMD. Hans Blix (from UN) proved him wrong.
Then Bush wanted to "free" Iraqis from Saddam's grasp and bypassed UN.
So after a propaganda campaign, the French were hated for... being reasonable.
@nickst0ne sorry you are 100% wrong. "the anti-French movement" as you say, did not start from the Iraq war. Nice try though. A lengthy poem recently translated and written in the 11th century, expresses all the same things that are said about the French today. Nothing has changed. They continue to display the same qualities they were known for and very strongly disliked for as far back as the 11th century. And who knows how long before that.
@TrueLight55 : France is not new. And of course you can find people disliking France way back... notwithstanding ~50 wars with England.
But look at the current anti-French feeling in the USA. It is separate from what you may mention (whatever it is since you don't mention the name). It has been totally bumped by media propaganda depicting France as a betrayer, ungrateful of WW2 liberation (*USA independance, anyone?*). I also recommend you Wikipedia's article on "French bashing".
Plato86 , you have an attitude ''all-american'' hated from all the planet,dude... bet Russia invade the u.s.a. before youre big-dicked-head explode... :(
@Smitty1586 A minor role in WWII ? XD americans... Resistance ? the thing that gave you the informations you needed ?^^ and it's easy for america to say " we saved you" you weren't even there ! you were far away from the war, your economy could recover ! if the UsA were on the same continent than france, it would have been wiped out of the map !
Oh please do STFU with your idiotic statements. Who the hell gave you money to rebuild your nation after the war ,frog? It was America through the Marshall plan, so do not tell me about America being "wiped off the map". America saved Europe from Nazism AND COMMUNISM during the Cold War. That is the plain truth.
@Plato86 NO French resistance savec Europe and the world from Nazism; you were scare to come, it took you 5 years and pearl harbor shit to move your fatass and the french to do all the job for you. And oh, we french MADE you, respect france, you wouldn't be american without the french amerloque! haha
@Smitty1586 Well obviously you didn't read the comment, no USSR, no tied up German troops, no democracy. period. Also the French played a MAJOR role in World War 1 1914-1918/19 and also defended their territories to the best of their abilities in WWII, if they had enough time to recover from WWI things would be different. France stopped a 9/11 from happening to them in the shootout at Mersailles sumthin America failed to do. French GIGN grounded and stormed the plane with no loss of Frenchies
@Smitty1586 Then Germany aquires nukes in 1946 and America can't attempt to nuke Germany starting a very different Cold War. Russia hops on the Nuclear Weapons band wagon in a hurry in about 1947 to react against America and Germany's nukes. Japan by this time would still be defeated and Germany would be a world super power because USSR never tied up 75%+ of German troops and supplies and USSR never pushed through Eastern Europe, and USSR never surrounded and took Berlin.
@Smitty1586 Then the Afrika Korps repels Operation Torch, the American Invasion of North Afrika because the German war machine never ran out of supplies (that historically went to the eastern front. Now the Germans can turn full strength on England and eventually could break through taking mainland Britain. Then America has no base to launch D-Day and no operation like it could succeed. Europe is then German and Fascist and USSR didn't do anything to stop that.
@Smitty1586 Okay lets say Hitler decided against Operation Barbarossa. Hitle then can free up a whole bunch of supplies for North Africa and Operation Sea Lion. Lets say the Germans go for North Africa first. Hitler releases his best troops from the East Front and moves them down to North Africa and never stops supply chains there. Rommel then uses this to win at El Alamain and pushes into the Middle East captureing Allied oil supplies.
I bet if USA neihboured Germany, Germany would have kicked your asses even faster than they did the French. Why? because America during WWII had some of the most poorly trained troops and really did almost nothing significant USSR was the true savior of Democracy as you could see they suffered the most causalties, a weird but true reality.
@Smitty1586 Better google and educate yourself and do some research before spouting such nonsense.I pity you cuz i know you're closed minded and uneducaded. And yeah it's my bussiness cuz FRENCH ARE MY EUROPEAN BROTHERS
@Smitty1586 Poor american moron you are so ignorant about our european history !!
Be secure in your own ignorance to proclaim that you are a retard, plain and simple France has a great military history the French had to fight muliple enemies from every corner in the continent and won numerous times.Let ' s face it , french ARMY during WW2 France lost about 250000 soldiers and 390000 civilians were killed, the USA suffered about 300000 losses for a much bigger country .
@Smitty1586 I'm fed up with your comments that are filled with hatred for french people you got serious issues. You obviously need an outlet to get rid of your frustration Take care of your health and please don't strain yourself too much. So thanks for showing up here acting like a total american douche-bag to remind us europeans that we do indeed have something in common.BTW i'm not french i 'm from Norway.
@Smitty1586 Yes, but they did help. That is all I am trying to say. Im not trying to get your blood boiled up. And yes I said the reason was to get back at the British. I'm not saying it was the best reason to join. And the war was well received by the French.
@Smitty1586 The war was well received by the French. The economy was the reason why they didn't go to war in the first place. The French joined because their tax dollars were going to the British. They joined us to stop the "British Tyranny" from continuing. As you can see I have a little bit of knowledge. Maybe your right. Maybe the Americans didn't need the French to win the Revolutionary war, but you must admit that they did help with the effort and we must appreciate that.
I know that I am not French because I am Hispanic and I am an American Citizen. And that is the only thing that you can up with? Come on. Please stop with all of the anti French talk. So what if a person is French? Does that mean that they are not worthy of your respect. We need to get past this stereotype that French=Bad and America=Good. That mentality will get us no where.
Okay, that might be a pretty arrogant statement, but DISPROVE IT FIRST! 'Cause it may have been not just America that saved Europe, BUT it certanly weren't the French alone, who saved us either.
uh I don't think the French would speak German now, French language is so strong, and don't forget that Canada was invaded in 1775 by the British but the French descendant always speak French in Canada today.
@fouini94 'Canada was invaded in 1775 by the British but the French descendant always speak French in Canada today.'. Firstly it wasn't 'Canada' it was New France. Canada is a british creation. Secondly, the reason they still speak french is because the british ALLOWED them to keep their language, laws, religion and culture. This outraged the rest of the british colonies in north america (who wanted the lands of New France for themselves) and was partly responsible for the american revolution.
Canada is a British creation?? LOL!!!!! That is freaking hilarious!! Alright Maureen, I'm sorry to have to do this, but I'm gonna have to correct you on some of your ''facts''.
The name Canada derives from an old Iroquois word ''Kanata'' which means village or settlement. The place name was first adopted by the French explorer Jacques Cartier to describe the entire area under the control of Chief Donnacona. By 1545, Canada appeared in European books in naming the region,
Now, you are also mistaken in the context in which you use ''Canada and ''New France.''
The French colonial administration used the name Canada to label the region that encompassed modern day Quebec and parts of Ontario under their control. But Canada was only one of five constituent territories of ''New France'', which is used to encompass ALL French territory in North America a the time. The other regions within New France was Acadia, Hudson Bay, Louisiana (cont)
@suryavajra Canada was a term that had no real meaning and with no recognized borders. New France became Quebec after the conquest, and in 1791 it was divided into Upper and Lower Canada. This is the first time Canada is used in a political sense or with a defined territory. This is literally when Canada came into being. The Quebecois did not call themselves canadians, as they viewed it as a british term and sign of their defeat. See, a little knowledge goes a long way, doesn't it?
Except I got news for you....none of the colonies had ''recognized'' borders. In North Carolina and Virgina for instance, it was assumed that the land claimed for that colony ran all the way West to the Pacific Ocean! lol!!
As for New France becoming Quebec in 1791, this was a modification by a British administration, but Quebec identity predates the British conquest.
So really Maureen, you ought to use more facts and less spin there...lol!
@suryavajra 'As for New France becoming Quebec in 1791, this was a modification by a British administration, but Quebec identity predates the British conquest. ' Except that's not what I said. I said CANADIAN identity can into being in 1791, an invention of the British. You cannot deny this. And the british defined the borders of both upper and lower canada, unlike the french who claimed everything on the continent that wasn't under british control.
Oh that's silly talk. The British contributed to Canadian identity, sure. But did they blue print and create it?? Nope.....
French Canadian identity predates the coming of the British. Infact had the British never invaded Quebec it would of been likely that the Quebecois would of risen up against the French. There was definitely that difference emerging even as early as the Seven Years War as illustrated by the divided command among the French forces...
Infact I have proved before that even the term ''Canada'' is not a British creation. Rather it was something that came from the Native Americans and used among the French. Infact actually there was an alternate theory that ''Canada'' originates from a Spanish word.
But either way, the Canadian identity is not an exclusive creation of the British. Sorry Maureen...lol!
@suryavajra You need to stop your indian-american anti-british bigotry from blinding you to the facts of history. Both india and america, the two greatest democracies on earth, are products of british legal and political culture. This is not something to be annoyed about, anymore than the brits should be annoyed that the normans brought european structures into britain. Look for the good things, don't focus on the bad stuff. Actually, come to think of it, I think I love you. I want you NOW...
Awww so you have done a little reading into my posts..lol!! I am definitely impressed.
But again, I fail to see where you see the bigotry in my statements. Seriously...have I flamed you guys and gals out for being British, No. Have I swore at all of you?? No,. I am merely stating matters from my own perspective, yet this is seen as bigotry..lol! For some reason I think that is so hilarious. If you wanna see real bigotry go to some of the other political/history pages (cont)
As for political culture of the two nations being strictly the products of British legal and political culture, I would beg to disagree, in a non bigoted way, ofcourse. ;)
@suryavajra I didn't say 'strictly'. Although, come to think of it, India is a britsh creation too, just like Canada. A secular democratic republic created from hundreds of despotic feudal kingdoms. No doubt you want to thank the brits for that, right? Go to westminster and pay your respects.
the Americans think that without them, France would be German now, I honestly don't think, France has been invaded several times and has never needed anyone to liberate themselves, there would have been a second french revolution or something like that, but France would be free today with or without the help of Alliers.
During French indians war.Washington fought for Brits and killed French! For his indép' he fought Brits with French!Lafayette was just a tool for them and a star for both countries, for me real heroes are dead soldier from France who cross the sea,but no one talk about them!Look how usa has changed during history, they don't like us(French and Europeans). Why must we play with them?Let's go out of OTAN;Their wars, their problems!
Américans forget the french blood for their indép'.In France there are usa tombs but in USA are there French tombs?,i don't think so.Some of them says"France helped us".Damn!!We gave them money, weapons, military lessons, affection and more.France was ruined before their war and after!AND WE HAVE DONE OUR JOB!But they don't care, few years later they wanted to fight France! You talking about a "friendly" country!POUAAAA!
@gipcambero Actually the French contribution the revolution helped end the war earlier than it otherwise would have, but the fact is, that they weren't there for most of our big battles. Also the French flag, the modern French flag, the tricolore didn't exist during the Revolution, it was the still the old fleur-de-lis. Their king who supported us got decapitated and they spent the next century dicking us around in one way or another.
The wording "second front" was a political swindle of Stalin's. We should ban this communist propaganda expression, which hinted that the USSR was the 1st and sole country fighting against Nazism. In fact, after the fall of Poland, the "1st front" was opened in the West by France and Britain, and never ceased to see fighting until 1945. The Russian front was only a "3rd front", although a major one. Russia was actually begging the Allies to open a 4th front.
And probably we would not go into environment critical disasters because of liberalism and capitalism stuff from the GREAT America that still refuses Kyoto's environment plan...
If french didn't help you, americans, during the independence war, you would be now just a piece of the England empire! Nothing more!... Just think of that!
@productionkaya I can tell u now that yr comment is false, I admit france has some nice scenery and architecture but I'd rather Australias prestine beaches, sunny weather and laid back life style over wat france has 2 offer me any day.
Pray tell us, my good man, why on Earth "if it wasn't for you, the French would be speaking German"??? (and, by the way, what's wrong with speaking German ?)
ppl (& not just the french) can deny it all they want, but the fact is the Allies were struggling 2 defeat the Nazis, Russia were pleading 2 Britian & U.S. 2 establish a second front & take pressure of the Red Army, if it wasn't 4 the U.S's entrance into the war it would've ended in Germanys favour.
"Divide to conquer", that was Alexander the Great motto's, this FOX's m.o, serving the so-called elite. Stop playing their game and letting yourself being manipulated by these scum bags. Whether you're French, American, Black, White, Yellow, Red,Woman, Man, we're all part of the same Family and only United and Conscious about that Universal Truth will we be able to defeat "them". Kill your TV and awaken your Conscience to Reality.
I'm not even American and I think this video is rubbish. WWII would not have been won without America. I'm not talking about America's sacrifice, nor its troop commitments, but its exceptional production capacity. The Soviet Union's resistance relied heavily on supplies from the US. The US supplied many planes to Britain. Hell, even the NZ Division was cruising round N.Africa in US made Sherman tanks! So yeah, I think it is a pretty fair comment to make.
actually it wasn't really ''the us'' also; the us got involved specifically for profit, it tried many ways to get in the war and they taunted the japanese to attack pearl harbor; to get the american people in the war. It's not a conspiracy, that's the truth
with that said, the canadians/english soldiers and the quebecers (french canadian) killed more men per soldier than the americans and did an all round better job, we never got credit or any thanks for this.
But what are we arguing about? About fox news and the republicans?
They ate dirt with the loss of every position they supported. They were wrong on MDW, on reasons for going to war, on the outcome of this war. And they didn't hurt the french as they wanted.
Now, 8 years of stupid Bushism ruined their country, their banks, their households. They don't even have time to rant about the French: now Obama is in command, they are hysterical night and day against other US citizens.
@11179221 'i am a proud american but if it wasn't for FRANCE, there would be no USA because they came to our aid and helped us in the revolutionary war' They weren't helping you because they liked or admired you, they were doing it because you were stabbing their greatest enemy in the back; and it wasn't the french PEOPLE halping you, it was an absolute monarch. And there would have still been a USA, it would just take a bit longer. The brits could not hold onto such a large population forever.
@11179221 Actually the french aristocracy despised america and the revolutionaries, who they viewed as degenerate, treasonous, disloyal, low-class peasants.
Maureen, perhaps, perhaps not. But that is actually irrelevant, because far more importantly the Americans were viewed as Allies to stick it to Britain. Ever hear the saying, 'Just win Baby.''??

i can take Poland as an example: during 100 years (from 1815 to 1918), poland was divided betwen germany russia and austria-hungary, but the polish continued to speak polish and at the end they got their state, right
secondly, if it wasn't for the allies, it would be for the soviets cos they would never stop to germany, their goal was to spead socialism to the entire european continent.

Camarale 1 year ago 2
@Camarale Please, you're saying French civilians know more about war than Americans. That's a good one. None of you French civilians know nothing of war. You arrogant people have yet to have a loved one die overseas, you people have yet to experience a terrorist attack. But go ahead, continue to talk about how the French are so much more educated in warfare. Personally, I find it pathetic and hilarious.
pennsforest04 1 year ago
@pennsforest04
Camarale 1 year ago
@pennsforest04
The French know more about war than we do, because of their long experience in warfare of course, but also because the fight was oftenly in their streets, their homes.
lakoweb 6 months ago
@Camarale For the past 100 years or so, the French have known nothing but defeat. When Hitler strolled into Paris, the French simply gave up, a lot of them even joined the Nazis. VICHY FRANCE ring a bell? Why are you bragging about French WWII casualties? That's not a good thing you know? Even than, I guess you forgot to list the figures of Japan-2,620,000 Germany-6,593,000 China-10,000,000 Russia-23,954,000. Now all that being said, GIGN kicks ass. But please continue to ramble on though....

Ignorant asshole.Try to catch only 10 % of French history before to talk. The French experienced 1500 years of wars in their backyards, when your mongrel inbreed was still in the balls of your European ancestors, and USA a desert populated by Indian nations. @Camarale How come the Germans were only a few miles away from taking Paris then? The Germans almost won the war, they were BEATING the French and the Brits.

WarGamerHistorian 1 year ago
@Smitty1586 Then Germany aquires nukes in 1946 and America can't attempt to nuke Germany starting a very different Cold War. Russia hops on the Nuclear Weapons band wagon in a hurry in about 1947 to react against America and Germany's nukes. Japan by this time would still be defeated and Germany would be a world super power because USSR never tied up 75%+ of German troops and supplies and USSR never pushed through Eastern Europe, and USSR never surrounded and took Berlin.
WarGamerHistorian 1 year ago
@Smitty1586 Then the Afrika Korps repels Operation Torch, the American Invasion of North Afrika because the German war machine never ran out of supplies (that historically went to the eastern front. Now the Germans can turn full strength on England and eventually could break through taking mainland Britain. Then America has no base to launch D-Day and no operation like it could succeed. Europe is then German and Fascist and USSR didn't do anything to stop that.
WarGamerHistorian 1 year ago
@Smitty1586 Okay lets say Hitler decided against Operation Barbarossa. Hitle then can free up a whole bunch of supplies for North Africa and Operation Sea Lion. Lets say the Germans go for North Africa first. Hitler releases his best troops from the East Front and moves them down to North Africa and never stops supply chains there. Rommel then uses this to win at El Alamain and pushes into the Middle East captureing Allied oil supplies.

@Smitty1586 The war was well received by the French. The economy was the reason why they didn't go to war in the first place. The French joined because their tax dollars were going to the British. They joined us to stop the "British Tyranny" from continuing. As you can see I have a little bit of knowledge. Maybe your right.

See, a little knowledge goes a long way, doesn't it?
maureenOWW 1 year ago
@maureenOWW
So really Maureen, you ought to use more facts and less spin there...lol!
suryavajra 1 year ago
@suryavajra 'As for New France becoming Quebec in 1791, this was a modification by a British administration, but Quebec identity predates the British conquest. ' Except that's not what I said. I said CANADIAN identity can into being in 1791, an invention of the British. You cannot deny this. And the british defined the borders of both upper and lower canada, unlike the french who claimed everything on the continent that wasn't under british control.
maureenOWW 1 year ago
@maureenOWW
Oh that's silly talk. The British contributed to Canadian identity, sure. But did they blue print and create it?? Nope.....
French Canadian identity predates the coming of the British. Infact had the British never invaded Quebec it would of been likely that the Quebecois would of risen up against the French. There was definitely that difference emerging even as early as the Seven Years War as illustrated by the divided command among the French forces...
suryavajra 1 year ago
@maureenOWW
Sorry Maureen...lol!
suryavajra 1 year ago
@suryavajra You need to stop your indian-american anti-british bigotry from blinding you to the facts of history. Both india and america, the two greatest democracies on earth, are products of british legal and political culture. This is not something to be annoyed about, anymore than the brits should be annoyed that the normans brought european structures into britain. Look for the good things, don't focus on the bad stuff. Actually, come to think of it, I think I love you. I want you NOW...
maureenOWW 1 year ago
@maureenOWW

As for political culture of the two nations being strictly the products of British legal and political culture, I would beg to disagree, in a non bigoted way, ofcourse. ;)
suryavajra 1 year ago

If the US didn't come, maybe we would be speaking another language, but that would be Russian I think :p.
Still think the allies could liberate most of France in that case, but Germany would be totally occupied by URSS

The americans should kiss the French flag everyday to remember French sacrifice in 1781.
gipcambero 2 years ago 19
@gipcambero Actually the French contribution the revolution helped end the war earlier than it otherwise would have, but the fact is, that they weren't there for most of our big battles. Also the French flag, the modern French flag, the tricolore didn't exist during the Revolution, it was the still the old fleur-de-lis. Their king who supported us got decapitated and they spent the next century dicking us around in one way or another.

gipcambero 2 years ago 2
The wording "second front" was a political swindle of Stalin's. We should ban this communist propaganda expression, which hinted that the USSR was the 1st and sole country fighting against Nazism. In fact, after the fall of Poland, the "1st front" was opened in the West by France and Britain, and never ceased to see fighting until 1945. The Russian front was only a "3rd front", although a major one. Russia was actually begging the Allies to open a 4th front.

Fridomfry 2 years ago
ppl (& not just the french) can deny it all they want, but the fact is the Allies were struggling 2 defeat the Nazis, Russia were pleading 2 Britian & U.S. 2 establish a second front & take pressure of the Red Army, if it wasn't 4 the U.S's entrance into the war it would've ended in Germanys favour.

So yeah, I think it is a pretty fair comment to make.
leaskyboy 2 years ago
If it wasn't for the US, the French would be speaking RUSSIAN, not German, which is why the US got involved in WW2 in Europe.
machintruc313 2 years ago 4
actually it wasn't really ''the us'' also; the us got involved specifically for profit, it tried many ways to get in the war and they taunted the japanese to attack pearl harbor; to get the american people in the war. It's not a conspiracy, that's the truth
with that said, the canadians/english soldiers and the quebecers (french canadian) killed more men per soldier than the americans and did an all round better job, we never got credit or any thanks for this.
ziomany 2 years ago
true.
They don't even have time to rant about the French: now Obama is in command, they are hysterical night and day against other US citizens.

simivalley1908 2 years ago 2
@11179221 'i am a proud american but if it wasn't for FRANCE, there would be no USA because they came to our aid and helped us in the revolutionary war' They weren't helping you because they liked or admired you, they were doing it because you were stabbing their greatest enemy in the back; and it wasn't the french PEOPLE halping you, it was an absolute monarch. And there would have still been a USA, it would just take a bit longer. The brits could not hold onto such a large population forever.

@11179221 Actually the french aristocracy despised america and the revolutionaries, who they viewed as degenerate, treasonous, disloyal, low-class peasants.
maureenOWW 1 year ago

Maureen, perhaps, perhaps not. But that is actually irrelevant, because far more importantly the Americans were viewed as Allies to stick it to Britain. Ever hear the saying, 'Just win Baby.''??
