The "new developer" is the ORIGINAL developer. Sony don't OWN Twisted Metal either. Game developers have contracts with companies like Sony or Microsoft. Which is why Xbox has games that PS3 wont have and vice versa. They are called Exclusives. Although some game companies turn into money hungry whores and make the same games for both. Sometimes it destroys the game. Saints Row was great when it was an exlusive. Once it went to PS3 it was HORRIBLE. I baught PS3 just for this game. Cant wait.

Sony does own the rights to the Twisted Metal franchise; Eat Sleep Play answers to them, Sony makes every decision about TM outside of game development--even then, Sony does QA for the game. They were the ones who decided this new TM should be a full-blown campaign/multiplayer experience when it was originally going to be online only on the PS Store. That's how the franchise had another developer for so long after TM 2 and before Black.

You can ask one of the co-creators yourself, David Jaffe. He says it all the time. It was his entire defense against people saying he flip-flopped about the online pass. He was saying that he didn't want an extra barrier getting in the way of new potential fans with this reboot to the PS3 so he was against an online pass--at least for this one. Sony has this new stance where every first party game is to have an online pass. Therefore, developers had to cave and they coded in online pass.

There's no purpose to it, but to ensure that they make extra revenue and forcing consumers to spend more than required for their original purchase.

@thasleeper this game has nothing to do with black. its its own story and is considered to be a "reboot" in the series. Everything you knew about TM is pretty much gone from the newer tm that will come. The new tm is starting fresh with a new story from the beginning and building on it over time with new games.

@oliveranation sony owns twisted metal.. i don't think sony would allow twisted metal to be made for other consoles.. its a strategy they use, if you really really want this game, you will have to get a ps3... and sony knows many of us grew up playing twisted metal when we were younger.. so they know many people who do not have a ps3 will buy a ps3 for this game... i bought a ps3 as soon as i saw this game was being made... my ps3 is just 6 months old
