Looks like this is a game i would have loved getting my hands on back in the days. With all those nice options (shoes, bombs etc) i would been exploring forever.Never did see the arcade machine either so that obviously didnt help. But i did see pictures of the game .. and even the arcade game pictures looked horribly "gray" and dull. If this had been a mode 0 game i probably would have gotten it tho.
Never played this one, although I remember it being on the shelves. A kind of precursor to Tomb Raider, what with the dinosaurs, swimming, and hidden secrets!
Great review, I really disliked this game when I have looked and played it before , but having seen some more of it , I am very tempted to look at it again and forgive its flaws!
Ha,ha, you know what man? When I used to play all those games, it seemed impossible to me to make significant progress! To finish a game was like a miracle! But, you make it look like a "common sense" kind of ...thing...!!!At least now I can see some of the later stages of the games I used to play! By the way, KARNOV is a great game for the CPC!!!!
@psychodraculo Tell you what dude, that end level boss caused me no end of grief. 80% of the time doing this was taken practicing how to defeat him... then I found that you had to get a certain number of shots on him in one appearance before he disappears and reappears and I was like ARRRGHH when I found out and realised how much time I'd wasted!!
@LarryBundyJr I hate to be a know it all Guru Larry as Im sure you have much more extensive knowledge of video games history than my humble self but The Dizzy series on the C64 were Spectrum ports I believe, they did have different music to Speccy and C64 and a nice little border in the fashion/colours of the C64 but the game had the same crappy graphics as Speccy (For the record I love Speccy, one of my fav computers as a kid). Please correct me if I'm wrong.
@LarryBundyJr Yea, I was initially going to say they just ported the graphics across, because the C64 with its chips and hardware is totally different to the Speccy and CPC, but I've just seen the C64 version running and OMG ... it's a total port! It looks, moves and plays the same... but much slower! Shocked!
This is one of my best CPC games! I was never able to complete it and I abandoned it but I remember I felt its magic whenever I tried. It is prohibitely difficult and I was able to finish it only by cheating....Another great choice by Xyphoe!WE LOVE YOU MATE!!!!
@Misel982001 Wow I had no idea dude! It's useful to have a map here to see where to go and where enemies will appear, that certainly helped me a lot cause I'd never played it before doing this longplay! Thanks again dude! :D
@CrazySandtrooper It's actually pretty faithful to the arcade original, so lots of plus points there. The sprite movement is very poor though and plays as it looks here ... stodgy controls.
I never finished this! But loved it back in the day!

Karnov was also in the infamous SF2 rip off (according to Capcom at least) Fighters History and Fighters History Dynamite.

I'm stunned that the C64 version is a spectrum port as well, aside from Chase HQ, I've never heard of that before.

Thought it looked a bit poor to be honest. Don't think I ever played the arcade version of this game, but I had heard of it.
Great vid as always =)
