  • Hi, I´m from Brazil. The video is great! Awesome song, very well edited, and most important, the techniques shown were really good! I´m a bjj purple belt, with a good judo, karate, muay-thai and self-defense training, so in my opinion, nevermind the bad criticism and keep up the good work. About the "execution", this is a TEST so I believe it must be done carefully to show the extension of the moves. So, congratulations!

  • And i use zachs account so its deff not mine lol

  • Sorry bill, i was having a bad day and i look up to you..i love bjj and i think your takedowns are nice...i miss class alot i work with friends when i can...all tho i cnt remember a few of my sweeps..my hip movments are a little better....id come back to class but my $ situation is very rough im trying not to loose my house and im getting close to keeping it but theirs light at the end of the tunnle so i cnt give up now...how's matt comming along?

  • U guys better shut the fuck up bill jones will fuck you up...perry

  • @zidane6206 Perry, thanks for watching. However, I'm not going to "fuck" anyone up. Questioning effectiveness, keeping an open mnd, and continually trying new and different things are what makes BJJ effective. I welcome criticism. If you're going to comment on my vids, plese do not discrespect the others that also comment.

  • geez these guys look REALLY sloppy for purple belts :S

  • Your "harai goshi" looks a lot like osotogari, btw. There is nothing in the name, though. Good luck in your training, let me know when you get the black belt!

  • The kuzushi (offbalancing) for the hip throw was nonexistent. You say he is driving in - I see him slowly walking towards you. He is almost stationary. He has his balance under control. Any remotely competent judoka would just block with the hip. If you watch how the really good judo guys demonstrate it (e.g. Neil Adams, Mike Swain, Jimmy Pedro) they are all basically dancing with their partner before they enter for their throw. Take a look at Mike Swain's Complete Judo - free, available online.

  • I do not say these things to cause offense. It's my goal right now to get my groundwork up to brown belt level over the next couple of months and you are already there.

I'm just saying your stand up is lagging behind your ground ability, so you should spend some time bridging the gap. That's it.

  • Second, as far as your throws go... Well, you do them in steps, pausing after each step. Just like bjj ground work, judo throwing is supposed to be fluid and effortless. That's not what I see here. I don't see you working to offbalance your opponent either. Advanced judo guys are crazy about off-balancing (kuzushi), but you mostly use in your drop shoulder throw and the hip throw is weight and power. Also, you demonstrate a grand total of 3-4 throws? That's not exactly extensive.

  • @Agtren I agree with you in the drop seionage. However, the hip throw was a self defense move where the opponent drives in. His movement loads him. All you have to do is turn. The harai goshi I loaded his weight onto the leg I was reaping, which is proper for this thrown and any reaping throw. I actually did about 12 throws in the test, but cut many of them due to time constraints with the vid. I would have demonstrated more, but the other guy was testing too.

  • @Agtren The guy is doing brazilian jiujitsu not judo......i do judo and jujutsu and i agree, the techniques aren't so good @ the throws, but we need to understand they don't specialize in throws

  • @Lenjou Thanks for watching. By the time I get to black belt I expect my takedown game to be about 100% better. It's been something I'm focusing on since the brown belt testing. Comments here and from Pedro opened my eyes to how much I need to improve on them. Just because I don't do judo does not give me a good excuse to suck at take downs.

  • First, let's get something straight. Are you and the cardmonkey the same person? Because although he had removed his comments, I was still notified about them via inbox service and in those comments he says that he agrees with my assesment OF HIS THROWS 100%. So this feels a little weird for me. Who am I debating with? Do you have a split personality?

  • @Agtren Yes. I am. I removed the comments because I didn't realize I was signed in under the wrong account. I do agree that my takedowns are not as strong as my ground game. I'm not questioning you out of offense...just curiosity.

  • @Agtren ... because you can tell this by watching one or two takedowns in a video. Your logic is flawed.

  • @GojiraKenshin Yes, I can tell by the execution of one or two takedowns in this video. Because I crosstrain in takedown arts (freestye and judo) consistently, I have some idea of what good looks like. I can aso tell the difference between how a white, purple or black belt plays guard.

  • CONGRATS! MOVING ON UP

  • @WHITEBELT44 Thanks for watching.

  • Congrats! Well done! If possible, I'd like to watch the full test, so that I can compare and see where I stand skill wise. A criticism (though u don't gotta listen to just another guy on the internet...) - takedown ability needs to improve if you really wanna be competitive. Your takedowns are passable. U may wanna crosstrain now, which should rather quickly increase your success in comps.

  • @Agtren Thanks for watching. Interesting assessment of my takedowns. What specific things did you feel were weak? As far as cross training, wrestling and judo are where my takedowns come from. As far as comps...they are not my cup of tea. I don't like to cut weight :) Thanks again for watching.

  • Well done. Nice grading.
