This is the only part of the movie where the Joker is actually "The Joker." The Joker wasn't perfect in this movie because he didn't tell enough jokes and he didn't really have a style of killing. A and B) He grinds the pencil in a little, making it stick. Since it probably went through his eye, that makes it plausible. It doesn't take much to stick a pencil into somebody's eye and up into their brain to kill them.

How do you know he didn't start doing little jobs for the mob before he finally changed into the Joker persona? In the comics, he did jobs for the mob, and then fell into the vat of chemicals and then out of nowhere became the Joker.

We don't get an origin story. He could've been a gangster first before changing into the persona of The Joker.

One of the great things about the character is that you cant never be really sure about his origins.

You are just taking the first movie as cannon, which would be the most inaccurate since it was Joe Chill who killed batman's folks.

A more accepted focous would be the one taken by the Killing Joke which describes the man as a broken comedian whose life is turned upside down by a a terrible random accident and begins to embrace chaos as his way of living.
