@asddge Good question. The fact is, many military jumpers do use squares, but generally in free fall situations. They are also used in HALO and HAHO jumps.

@Asddge they use those parachutes because of simplicity and economics. It would be a frightning thought to see several hundred paratroopers with ram square chutes trying to avoid each other and then landing safely, especially at night. This soldier showed great composure and restraint. I have personally seen entangled jumpers fist fighting after landing uninjured when I was in the 82nd.

Those were the good ole days.
