I hit a tree going about 50 mph with no seatbelt on. The air bag saved my life. I had no injuries, and suffered no pain. The car was a 94 Chrysler LeBaron. If it wasn't for the air bag. I probably would have died.
i got lucky.. i rear ended a honda with a geo metro convertible at about 55mph my brakes lines rusted out and i lost control. no seatbelt no airbag. the passener side hit the civic so any passeners in my car would have died. entire dash along with engine was pushed into the passener seat

You have to imagine though...the car accident itself happens that fast. Therefore the airbag needs to deploy as quickly as the accident happens.
