I only watched the new movie a couple of weeks ago with my sister but I never saw the original. I had no idea what the true story was, so I thought it was wrong. Now I know the story was pretty much accurate and I think it was freaking awesome! (Except for the bugs, I think they went a little overboard)
@amaxamon Better than the original? It's a perfect movie. The remake has tons of flaws and runs too long and has some really bad sequences, like the dino stampede and those stupid zombie-natives.
I've never seen the original (fucking DVD prices) but I found the scene of the fight against the airplanes in the Peter Jackson's King Kong much more dramatic than an action scene. I loved it.
Hey fools he has a point on most of his says now that doesn't mean he doesn't like the movies but it's funny cause some of the movies are very good. Now don't compare hitler with modern day no one can be him or act he happened around 70 years ago leave him in the past
@OneStep600 this guy is an irritating asshole, with no originality of thought. If you admire and respect this dude, fine, but I will never watch him again.
@rabsmiff also, REALLY!? You are comparing a FILM CRITIC,(this really isn't him by the way), to a genocidal maniacal dictator who orchestrated the slaughter of millions of innocent people?! How do you go from film critic to ADOLF FREAKING HITLER?!
@rabsmiff Its not that we disagree, if you don't like him that is fine, but its just that you used Hitler, a maniacal dictator, as a defense for not liking Doug Walker, a critic. It just seems very sporadic to go from Critic to megalomaniacal dictator.
@eastwing329 variety is the spice of life, young person. Mr Walker may be kind to animals and a decent human being, but his presentation on these clips leaves a lot to be desired......
@tricksterhuaun First off, he doesn't want anything to do with the voyage to Skull Island. He was tricked by that shit head, Carl. Second, he doesn't want to "bang" Anne. The fuck are you smoking, bro?
@SuperDipstick84 Carl? Boring? Carl Denham risks his workmates lives just to have his film, and when his film doesn't work, he try to bring a damn gorillaz to New York, he's ambitious, smart, creative, but at the same time he can be selfish and greedy, he's an intriguing character.
What about Adrien Brody character?.....He's Lethargic, he's quiet.....
Adrien Brody is an excellent actor, but the problem is that Jack Driscoll, his character, was sooooo incredibly bland.
@tricksterhuaun I don't know about you, but I always though Carl was a jackass. Have you played the game? He's all like, "This island is amazing!", even when dinosaurs TRIED TO FUCKING KILL HIM!
I actually liked the new one. I've seen it in its entirety at least twice and I feel like it's a pretty fun adventure. Peter Jackson is a good director.
Not only was Andy Serkis the cut throat sailor but also did the motion capture for Kong. On a Peter Jackson related note, he was also did the voice and motion capture for Gollum. I just wish Sex and Drugs and Rock n Roll got more attention because Serkis is just a delight in everything he's in.
@joeywhite00 The first one looked really stupid when I first saw it; and Peter Jackson's version just seemed too drawn out and it took forever to get to King Kong. The one where he climbed the World Trade center was the best one. I remeber watching it and cheering for Kong all the way. I was pissed when he was shot down and died.
I thought Brody was really subtly nerdy and intellectual, kept to himself and kept his emotions within, but every emotion he needs to communicate still makes it through, mostly with body language. I also liked Black, although your point makes a lot of sense, he doesn't appear trustworthy, but then again he basically tricks and or forces everyone into going, noone actually trusts him. Neither a positive nor a negative for me.
ALSO TOTALLY MISSED KYLE CHANDLER AS BRUCE BAXTER! He's amazing.
I thought Brody was really subtly nerdy and intellectual, kept to himself and kept his emotions within, but every emotion he needs to communicate still makes it through, mostly with body language. Here are my questions about King Kong if the natives built a wall to keep King Kong out why would build a door large enough for him to get through? And for that matter Kong is a giant monkey why doesn't he just climb over the wall? And come there can't just be one Kong there has to be more where did Kong come from?
@marmik961 It's one of those "He's the last of his kind" situation. If you see Jackson's King Kong you can see skeletons of other Kongs lying around. As for the natives... I guess they were compensating for something and forgot that there was a 5 story gorilla running around the jungle.
Both movies are amazing and the Peter Jackson remake is an excellent complement to the original, and that is saying a lot considering that the original is one of the greatest movies ever made, but is the remake better than the original, No. It will be nearly impossible for any movie to be as groundbreaking and as timeless as the original King Kong, however the remake was incredible and still stands as one of the best movies I've ever seen in theaters and is easily the best remake of all time.
The 1976 remake is the best version. 2005 is too long, and not as plausible as the 1976 one. (Granted, plausibility is perhaps a relative concept in a story about a 50-foot ape.)
No kidding. It was different from the 1933 & 2005 versions in that it started the story later, and changed the story to one about oil rather than about filming; so it does takes liberties wit the original. But not - I think - any greater than the liberties Peter Jackson took with "The Lord of the Rings".
It was the first version of the "King Kong" story I saw - maybe that's a reason I like it :) I realise I'm in something of a minority LOL
@5355vbxjbj76rvn True. I guess since they completely changed the backstory I never really gave it a chance. But to me it was horrible. And Jessica Lange? Wow....was she bad.
i would have gone with the new version for jack black, not the original. i guess i'm just too spoiled by modern filmmaking to see what nc sees in those old actors. still, good points so far.
@VenomShock actually it was more like elephant poop whereas the other remakes were human dung. elephant poop still has nutrients in it that makes it a pretty good food source (disgusting). whereas human dung has no preservatives at all making it worthless
im still waiting for an old vs new of Mel Brook's classic the producers. I love both of those movies and I even made my own comparison. Long story short: old won.
The only problem I had with the new one is the NEVER ending, slow start. I love a movie with a great build up and story, but almost 1 1/2 hrs just to get to the island! It should have been edited just a bit to get rid of pointless shots. If you can snooze through the city, boat ride, and setting on the boat parts, the rest of the movie is great. The only thing I could ask for was more types of dinos insted of Kong just fighting alot of the same species The giant insects were just a bit silly.
@rpgzilla HAHA I never even thought of that one. I was wondering what the hell he was thinking by trying to force a Nestle bar into the kid's hands though.
The one thing that pissed me off was the length, seriously who wants to see a movie about king kong where to spend 1 hour and half on a boat working on character developement >.<
@hiimjenki2 People who like human drama rather than flashy effects? Seriously, you're going to complain about character development time in King Kong, a movie whose whole point is the relationship between characters both ape and human? If you don't like it, go watch Godzilla.
@guysmiley00 the original king kong didnt spent so fucking long on character developement, and i will go watch godzilla because godzilla is way better compared to this trash
@humanconvertile King King 1976 (with Jessica Lange) was maybe not as memorable as the classic or the new one, but one thing I'm sure, it was not "bad" and also it was a big budget movie. I guess the reason he didn't put it was that the story wasn't the same as the two other versions: this one was in modern times where the team, instead of a movie cast, was a petrolium company invading King Kong's island, plus other details. Supposely, it was a financial flop but i think it's more of a rumor.
@guysmiley00 Yeah, it looks like it. But even if I talk about the gross revenue, I have to admit that it's not a movie that I've watched completely. In fact, I've never watched a full King Kong movie except the Peter Jackson's version in 2005. Watching the 1933 version doesn't interest me at all and I'm not that much a fan, but I like reviews to enter me into the monster movies. That's why some people made it on Youtube. It wouldn't have happened on regular TV for sure.
@wiiguy145 I personnally don't think it was as bad. One thing is it's not in the same field of the two classic movies, since the story is in a different timeline, context, story, etc. It was supposely a commercial flop back in the late 70's, but it was well received in the theaters though considering the gross revenue, it made its money.
Its not fair to judge the female role too much since women of the 30s are still not as men's equal even on film. The traditional view of a woman's part was to be a supporting role for the male lead. When ever there is terror mucking about the woman is the one that establishes the intensity of the terror by how else than to.... sigh* Scream like a girl. =.=
@HitoneToni True, but that expansion of territory is why the modern female lead is better - she's allowed to be a more interesting character. I know the "good-as-a-man" woman character is a cliche in modern films (Critic touches on this in the Top 11 Sports Films), but in this movie they used that latitude to create a nuanced character, rather than a cardboard "Girl Power!" sop. It wasn't Wray's fault, but it is what it is.
Then...then that means that useless character in "The Room" was lying about it being the symbol of love! This throws my entire perception of reality into disarray.

The one thing that pissed me off was the length, seriously who wants to see a movie about king kong where to spend 1 hour and half on a boat working on character developement >.<
hiimjenki2 1 year ago
@hiimjenki2 People who like human drama rather than flashy effects? Seriously, you're going to complain about character development time in King Kong, a movie whose whole point is the relationship between characters both ape and human? If you don't like it, go watch Godzilla.
guysmiley00 1 year ago
@guysmiley00 the original king kong didnt spent so fucking long on character developement, and i will go watch godzilla because godzilla is way better compared to this trash

Euh... King Kong 1976? Hello?
sinning1966 1 year ago
@sinning1966 I think Critic didn't count it because most King Kong remakes before Jackson sucked ass.
At least that's what I've heard.
humanconvertile 1 year ago
@humanconvertile King King 1976 (with Jessica Lange) was maybe not as memorable as the classic or the new one, but one thing I'm sure, it was not "bad" and also it was a big budget movie. I guess the reason he didn't put it was that the story wasn't the same as the two other versions: this one was in modern times where the team, instead of a movie cast, was a petrolium company invading King Kong's island, plus other details. Supposely, it was a financial flop but i think it's more of a rumor.
sinning1966 1 year ago
@sinning1966 Great God Wikipedia say '76 Kong earned $80 million on a $24 million budget. Not bad, but not a blockbuster.
guysmiley00 1 year ago
@guysmiley00 Yeah, it looks like it. But even if I talk about the gross revenue, I have to admit that it's not a movie that I've watched completely. In fact, I've never watched a full King Kong movie except the Peter Jackson's version in 2005. Watching the 1933 version doesn't interest me at all and I'm not that much a fan, but I like reviews to enter me into the monster movies. That's why some people made it on Youtube. It wouldn't have happened on regular TV for sure.
sinning1966 1 year ago
@humanconvertile (2) Maybe the Critic will do another review specially for that one versus the other two he've already reviewed.
sinning1966 1 year ago
@sinning1966 the 1976 version sucked
wiiguy145 1 year ago
@wiiguy145 I personnally don't think it was as bad. One thing is it's not in the same field of the two classic movies, since the story is in a different timeline, context, story, etc. It was supposely a commercial flop back in the late 70's, but it was well received in the theaters though considering the gross revenue, it made its money.
sinning1966 1 year ago
@sinning1966 yeah but it didnt have most of the characters from the 1933 version
wiiguy145 1 year ago
Its not fair to judge the female role too much since women of the 30s are still not as men's equal even on film. The traditional view of a woman's part was to be a supporting role for the male lead. When ever there is terror mucking about the woman is the one that establishes the intensity of the terror by how else than to.... sigh* Scream like a girl. =.=
HitoneToni 1 year ago
@HitoneToni True, but that expansion of territory is why the modern female lead is better - she's allowed to be a more interesting character. I know the "good-as-a-man" woman character is a cliche in modern films (Critic touches on this in the Top 11 Sports Films), but in this movie they used that latitude to create a nuanced character, rather than a cardboard "Girl Power!" sop. It wasn't Wray's fault, but it is what it is.

"Chocolate" means "war?"
Then...then that means that useless character in "The Room" was lying about it being the symbol of love! This throws my entire perception of reality into disarray.
