  • Khmer khim is so good.

  • @KhmerFan1t1c You're so right. Actually, I played some mahori tunes yesterday on this khim (not mine), the sound is unbelievable, I just couldn't stop playing two same songs over and over again, it was like I got sucked into some cosmic vortex. You may want to watch khmerspirit1's channel, his father was the top tro-ou player in Cambodia in the 70s.Khmer khim brings out the beauty of our traditional Khmer music in a new light.

  • Hi! Do you know where I can purchase one of these online?

  • @idorkyasianrep13 Hi there, i'm not sure you can do it online with Cambodia. But I wouldn't suggest you do it bcs the sound is a big ISSUE. You have to test it first, it could be really bad to the extent you hate the instrument once you've bought it. It happened to a couple of friends of mine. This one has an excellent sound. Price's about $500 a bit more. But again TEST it first. Sorry, can't help.

  • សម្លេង ឃឹម ,,,

  • @khmerchef. Hi there, you made my day, i'm so glad you start learning a second instrument. I've just uploaded a video with a score, you could learn the song, it's really beautiful.

  • Just letting you know that you so inspired me to pick up another instrument. I've always wanted to learn at least one of the traditional khmer instruments. Thank you so much for the upload and the contributions you make to maintaining our culture & music.

  • Sounds so good, i love khim thanks the player.

  • @db007us thanks for your comment. I learned it from a former Khmer Fine Arts Uni student, now Khmer music teacher in France.

  • hi bong! beautiful playing of the khim there! my uncle just brought me a khim from srok khmer and its out of tune.. i have a tuner and tuning equipment though. can you tell me the notes?

thanks and love from long beach, california!

  • @CosmoSkies Hi Pha-On, There are two ways, but i'll show you the most frequently used. First two big strings: C First three small strings: B It should be like below. Big strings go like this: C D E F G A B ... Small three-group strings go like this: B C R E F G A B... For left | right sides: G|C A|D B|E C|F D|G E|A ... I hope you could do it, please let me know again if you can't. Take care
  • @unitedkhmerartists thanks a lot bong! this really helps, im just confused about the B C R E F G A B part. is that R supposed to be a D?

  • @CosmoSkies and my khim has 7 groups of 3 small strings and 7 groups of 2 big strings.. so i cant have to take out one note. what should i do? My khim is 35 strings, is that normal?

  • @CosmoSkies Yes, sorry, R is Ré in French and is actually D in English.

  • this tuning style are the same as tuning of ancient yangqin of china

  • @ohmnatta

Yes, Sir, you may be right, i'm not sure, but the way i tuned it for this Mohori piece is a bit special, it's only diatonic, not chromatic. Maybe in Thailand musicians use a different scale system to tune it. Interesting though to find out...

  • It sounds great. I like it. And I think it's hard to learn how to play it. I really appreciate the player.

  • @broshsiri

Thank you for your comment, i needed the boost yesterday ;-). Take care.
