  • A 'bang' means a kiss and this Irish phrase of "bang on the ear" can best be considered equivalent to the more common phrase "peck on the cheek."

  • A Bang on the ear simply means a peck on the cheek.

  • @daytoneman : No it doesn't....it means a bang....on the ear...a slap oan the lug...a clip round the ear.

  • @daytoneman well that ruined it for me ...NOT but LOL thought it meant like to "box one's ears" LOL

  • @daytoneman i had thought a bang on the ear was just as it implied

  • if you ask what is a bang on the ear, you've never had one.

  • what the fuck is a "bang on the ear" please explain !!!

  • A slap ... pretty simple. Though hopefully the musical tone of the song tells you it's a well meant one. Could also be a mention in a song.

  • bascule, i looked up the Waterboys on wikipedia and the explaination was a "bang" in Ireland is a kiss, thus it's like a peck on the cheek. It must be a Gaelic thing

  • he's %100 celtic as his music's soul

  • liverpools favourite party band

  • Seen The Waterboys live at Ayr Pavilion, Scotland. Best gig I've ever attended.

  • Also went to a Saw Doctors gig in Ayr. Fantastic.

  • Such a lovely song!!

  • im probably too young to love folk music as much as i do but ive loved the waterboys and this song especially since i was 'too young to ask'

  • Met mike scott a long time ago as a child. He's a truely talented man and his music has definately influenced me as a person.

As for waterboys nationality, if anything Mike is a true scott.

  • right bonny song this one,the selection of music in the UK and Ireland, puts the aussie rubbish to shame, as there is far too much US influence, here in oz.

  • U.S my ass it all canadian

  • @chicoells ,

Please read my comments again, and The Watreboys are not all Canadian, the lead singer comes from the far North East of Scotland as I do, some of the other members were Irish and Mike Scott, was greatly inspired by the Irish culture and music. In fact, Mike Scott is related to a close friend of mine, so your comments are all unfounded.

  • well said sir

  • @aaronphelan ,

Thanks for your support, its well appreciated. Far too many people dont read other peoples comments properly.

As wea re all aware, with the inception of the Internet, ther are a lot of "armchair experts", unfortunately, they are just a tolerance.

  • you are right sorry about that i was drinking lots or rum lost night did'nt know my head from me arss.
