@mercanaries3 Yup, CO2 isn't a pollutant but other gases and of course waste, from factories for example, are pollutant and can cause serious health problems to human, animal and plant life on the planet. If consumers choose to join in activities that pollute then they should pay for it. If they don't they shove the cost on to future generations. Shouldn't we pay as we go? @nlpjohn They had no way of accurately measuring temperature back then. Reliable temperature data did not begin until the 1800's. Regardless, you seem to be making the mistake of thinking I am saying anthropogenic global warming is the sole cause of it. Natural changes in solar radiation influence the net absorption of the earth, as do changing gravitational pulls by other planets, depending on orbits. CO2 lets less light waves escape. That is a fact. Higher CO2 levels contribute to warming.

At CO2science/org all the supporting papers used to reconstruct the MWP are a mouse click away. The data clearly shows the MWP to be warmer than modern temps and to be a world-wide phenom. Ergo, claims that modern warming is unusual is false. And since MWP had lower CO2 levels, the effects of CO2 on temp are shown to be minimal at best...
@nlpjohn I believe you are too quick to conclude that CO2 is a minimal contribution. As we already agreed, there are many factors that affect climate. All that the MWP shows is that factors other than GHG's caused the earth to warm to a large degree. There was greater warming than that in the Eemian btw. The fact that climate can change independent of GHG fluctuations doesn't prove that GHG's are not a major factor. The majority of scientists believe current warming is anthropogenic.
@sgberta According to the IPCC, modern warming is unusual and the MWP proves those claims false. And based on the IPCC own claims, temps SHOULD be higher now than there were in the MWP. Why do you think they plucked a failed PhD student who flunked his orals into an overnight scientific superstar (Michael Mann)? Mann's "hockey stick" graph made the MWP disappear. Mann's problem was (1) He overweighted his data to make the MWP disappear & (2) Other temp proxy studies show the MWP clearly.

Regardless, what period was warmer is not terribly important. The current heating we are experiencing began at the exact same time as the industrial revolution and has not backed off. GHG's are what most scientists identify as the CURRENT driving force.

As more proxy temp studies are published, the more pronounced the MWP has become.The MWP alone is enough to call questions on the validity of the AGW hypothesis. Then when you consider the upper atmosphere has FAILED to cool over the alleged GHG blanket then the AGW hypothesis becomes very tenuous. And if we consider the "hide-the-decline" scandals then being a AGW sceptic is the default choice.
@sgberta You should check out surfacestations/org. This site has audited over 80% of the temp surface stations in the USA and over 69% of the stations audited 2+ degree C error rates. Alarmists claim that the tainted station errors can be corrected via mathematical techniques but I think they are full of bull. The pictures of the audited stations are gold. There are official temp station on concrete and near building air conditioning units. The temp data is tainted beyond belief.
Forget data, try using your senses. Is the water level at your local beach higher than 100 years ago? No. Is the temperature any hotter outside wherever you are than it used to be? No. if someone tells you the earth is getting warmer and you believe them without observing the facts, then you are an idiot- by definition. @mercanaries3 Yup, CO2 isn't a pollutant but other gases and of course waste, from factories for example, are pollutant and can cause serious health problems to human, animal and plant life on the planet. CO2 is a food source for plants and every living thing on earth is carbon-based life... ;) Water vapor you might say is harmless, since it's water, but yet it is a major green house gas.

But if I did a "Fat-n-trade" program, I could STILL super-size my order, and then pay another jogger to run one mile for me so I only ran one out of my 2...but I still bought a bunch of carbohydrate credits, didn't I? So I'm good.

Keep in mind that passing the Externality Expense (the paper you refuse to read would tell you about it) on down to the consumer. And that's just what should happen. If consumers choose to join in activities that pollute then they should pay for it. If they don't they shove the cost on to future generations. Shouldn't we pay as we go? Consumers will adjust and cleaner activities will be cheaper and more in demand. We grow new clean industries helping our economy! :-))

@ReduceGHGs I already happen to know that despite any kind of alarmism, if every nation in the world continued with their emissions pathways, the all around temperature of the planet would only go up 1.58 degrees Celsius from now until 2050.
Besides, China's emissions are 42% greater than ours, and with their economic advantage over us being what it is, what can you realistically expect us to do about it? Any further climate legislation on our part would be utterly USELESS, don't you see?

why are all the planets warming up? medeival ages were warmer? Yet there were no gas powered cars back then. How can any scientists possibly conclude if there even is a "tipping point". If you factor in water vapor, man made green house emissions contribute to less than 1% of all green house gases. Satellites and Weather Balloons show no global warming. surface readings only show .5 DEGREE INCREASE OVER TEN YEARS in average temperature, this can be caused by urbanization.

@nlpjohn They had no way of accurately measuring temperature back then. Reliable temperature data did not begin until the 1800's. Regardless, you seem to be making the mistake of thinking I am saying anthropogenic global warming is the sole cause of it. Natural changes in solar radiation influence the net absorption of the earth, as do changing gravitational pulls by other planets, depending on orbits. CO2 lets less light waves escape. That is a fact. Higher CO2 levels contribute to warming.

@sgberta Evidence? The Medieval Warming Period (MWP) Project which has compiled temp proxy data from around the world. At CO2science/org all the supporting papers used to reconstruct the MWP are a mouse click away. The data clearly shows the MWP to be warmer than modern temps and to be a world-wide phenom. Ergo, claims that modern warming is unusual is false. And since MWP had lower CO2 levels, the effects of CO2 on temp are shown to be minimal at best...

@nlpjohn I believe you are too quick to conclude that CO2 is a minimal contribution. As we already agreed, there are many factors that affect climate. All that the MWP shows is that factors other than GHG's caused the earth to warm to a large degree. There was greater warming than that in the Eemian btw. The fact that climate can change independent of GHG fluctuations doesn't prove that GHG's are not a major factor. The majority of scientists believe current warming is anthropogenic.

Why do you think they plucked a failed PhD student who flunked his orals into an overnight scientific superstar (Michael Mann)? Mann's "hockey stick" graph made the MWP disappear. Mann's problem was (1) He overweighted his data to make the MWP disappear & (2) Other temp proxy studies show the MWP clearly.

Regardless, what period was warmer is not terribly important. The current heating we are experiencing began at the exact same time as the industrial revolution and has not backed off. GHG's are what most scientists identify as the CURRENT driving force.

@sgberta Well I have researched the MWP and it was warmer despite having lower GHG levels. As more proxy temp studies are published, the more pronounced the MWP has become.The MWP alone is enough to call questions on the validity of the AGW hypothesis. Then when you consider the upper atmosphere has FAILED to cool over the alleged GHG blanket then the AGW hypothesis becomes very tenuous. And if we consider the "hide-the-decline" scandals then being a AGW sceptic is the default choice.

@sgberta You should check out surfacestations/org. This site has audited over 80% of the temp surface stations in the USA and over 69% of the stations audited 2+ degree C error rates. Alarmists claim that the tainted station errors can be corrected via mathematical techniques but I think they are full of bull. The pictures of the audited stations are gold. There are official temp station on concrete and near building air conditioning units. The temp data is tainted beyond belief.

Forget data, try using your senses. Is the water level at your local beach higher than 100 years ago? No. Is the temperature any hotter outside wherever you are than it used to be? No. if someone tells you the earth is getting warmer and you believe them without observing the facts, then you are an idiot- by definition. Hell, dont take my word, look up records of temp. in your local area, see for yourself! No.

Maybe, but it is hard to get an acurrate and unbiased study due to the corrupt money system.
My overall conclusion
What government tell you could absolutely be bullshit, but it is not unrealistic that mass of humans operating on the planet could have a negative affect with certain unsusstainable industrial practises.

How does one get to be a climate scientist? First, you have to believe in global warming and dedicate your life to saving the Earth. Once you are accredited by those who have the same beliefs, it's your job to go out and find the science to prove that you need more grants to stop any farther debate. Besides, there's HUGE corporate fortunes to be made from the gullible and unwilling.
