The baby was pretty close to popping out but the head's progress probably stopped and to make things go a little guicker they will cut the woman. Though studies (isn't there always one for everything? jeesh)say that the woman will heal so much better and faster if they let the skin tear by it's self. Just because they have a degree doesn't make them any smarter than you and I.
This is completely unhuman.. Does a woman need to be cut to give birth?? A thousand years ago, who cut women to give birth?? I gave birth to a beatiful girl that weight 4.850kgs, with out epidural and NO CUTS! Giving birth should be more animalised... us women do this for over thousands of years.. it's just a matter pf intuition..

To make sure they are responsive. It's part of the many checks they do on a newborn to see if they are "all together". That's probably something you can google.
I wish all partners are involved like this. Not all bastards will be there for some moms. They deserve to pay childsupport big time!
