To me, the baritone horns always have the sweetest parts in these marches. Just listen to 'the bridge'! This march is no exception and is one of my faves.
I'm American and a Sousa fan but I'd like to recommend a couple of very good Polish Marches to you. "Marsz Krakowskie Dzieci" is one and "Marsz Rzeczpospolita" is the other. No, I can't pronounce them. Both are on YouTube.
On another note, i've been trolling these with my Bassoon comments, but see, I'm not discriminatory against instruments, I play 9! but there are no comments about Bassoons :( THUMBS UP FOR BASSOON PLAYERS!!

I don't know what you find interesting about Sousa's marches. They are all boring. Try listening to some decent composers like William Rimmer or Thomas J. Powell.
playing it in band!! we sound pretty good...but we need to be QUIETER!! we play to looouuudddd!!!!!!!!! we played it once one time...but then i guess we forgot or something >.<
@Euphonium1996 its a piece of music made for marching. Sousa basically only made marches, and that why they named the Sousaphone Sousaphone because of John Phillips Sousa. (if u don't know, the sousaphone is the marching tuba)
Very nice (Sounds tierce, I know, but still.) I myself am a fan of Musicals, and I like how in the musical Assassins, they worked the beginning of this march no neatly into the song, "How I Saved Roosevelt." Look it up!
My band teacher wanted us to play this and it is hard. We was gonna try to sight read it but instead she made us sight read Sea Songs so we are gonna go to Dublin Festival with it.
my band is playing this song and taking it to contest, wish us luck

This is what I think of when I hear this song.
Part 1: The marching around the castle.
Part 2: The Captain walks out.
Part 3: The ball.
Part 4: A joke.
Part 5: Continuation of the ball.
Part 6: An ambush.
Part 7: A valiant retaliation.
Part: 8: Victory song.
