was this on nbc? because it seemed like a change that nbc wouldve made that wouldve screwed up this show....this intro just didnt catch on with me for being the show solid gold....it wasnt right for the show...they should bring solid gold back
No it was not on NBC (at least out here in Southern California). Here in the LA market it was shown on KCOP Channel 13.
Solid Gold was owned by Paramount and syndicated worldwide. And since it was syndicated it was shown on different stations in different markets. It might have been on an NBC Affiliate station in some cities, but NBC would have no control over the format of the show.
This "new" format for Sold Gold & later Sold Gold-in concert was the death knell for this once great show, just imagine if Sold Gold had continued to evolve beyond 1988,what it might be like now??? Sold Gold 2009???(dream,dream,wish,wish)
lol this might sound kinda dumb but can you post just the solid gold theme song lol that song is awesome and your videos are awesome by the way, thanks.
Thanks for posting. Please excuse me, Solid Gold really sucked at this point. The whole show format had changed, They had new dancers, new set(which was too wide open), it was just a mess! The dancers weren't moving like the previous Solid Gold Dancers, the magic was gone. And Jamilah...bless her heart. Things got worse when they went to the Solid Gold In Concert format. At that point you barely saw the "Solid Gold Dancers." This was a period of Solid Gold I'd like to forget. Sorry, but thanks.
I know how you feel, but if I was going create a "True" tribute page, I have to include ALL the dancers. These are the only two episodes of the "NEW" re-formatted SG and will be the only ones posted (at this point) just for an accurate history of how the show evolved. But, yes, once Pam and all the rest were gone, Jamilah wasn't enough to keep me glued to my seat. And I, like a lot of SG groupies, left because it just wasn't the same. :-(
Actually this season (the 7th) is announced by Charlie O'Donnell (who is the announcer of "Wheel Of Fortune", as well as the main announcer on Dick Clark's version of "The $100,000 Pyramid", and "American Bandstand." John Harlan (who was also a sub announcer on "Press Your Luck", and the main announcer on "The $100,000 Name That Tune") was the announcer for "Solid Gold In Concert" during its last season (1987-88.)
Neither Charlie's or John's voice had the quality of Robert W. Morgan's. Even a little change like that made a HUGE difference in the SOLID GOLD EXPERIENCE!
I agree - the show seemed more like "American Bandstand" or "The $100,000 Name That Tune" with Charlie O and John Harlan - Robert was a radio DJ which fit the show to a T!
I think the fans were having issues with no Robert W.Morgan (THE voice of Solid Gold) along with all the other changes that shocked the Solid Gold world.
At least the women were a bit more modest, it was the same ending theme (Whitney Houston?), Brad Lachman was still producing, and it was still Paramount.
Dwight, Solid Gold '87 is the 7th season of Solid Gold. This would have been Solid Gold 86-87 season if they hadn't changed the Name/Format. Dionne hosted the last "traditional" season of SG during the 85-86 season. The reason for the two years in the season names is because TV "seasons" traditionally start in September of a year and end during "Sweeps" (approx May) of the NEXT year. I.E., Solid Gold 85-86 season would have started Sept 1985 and ended in May 1986. Also known as "6th Season".
I agree - even Marilyn looked a little unsure. BTW, is it just me or does Leslie from this show look quite a bit like Beverly from 84-85 & 85-86 seasons?
Thanks for posting this video. There was a lot of changes between SG86-87 and it turned a lot of fans off Solid Gold. I hated the changes at first - especially losing Pam and having less exposure to the dancers, but as time went by I loved Solid Gold again. Again thanks for posting this Charmed!
Yeah, this was pretty much the end of the line here.

As you know the intro you see in this clip is voiced Charlie O'Donnell who passed away at the age of 78.
RIP Charlie O'Donnell (1932-2010)

What was so important that they had to make it year specific?
NepperCat 2 years ago
No it's just that they had a MAJOR format revamp and so they changed the name to reflect the "new" style.

This was also the last season OPT was producing. This meant MCA no longer produced the show (OPT was part of MCA).

For those of you who don't know, the announcer of the final season is currently known as "the voice of "Wheel of Fortune".

No Darcel, no Cooley, no Robert W. Morgan - no show left! Marilyn tried, but you can only do so much when nothing else is familiar!

You're welcome! The show changed so radically, I tried to stay loyal, but I have to admit I strayed! And was totally gone by Solid Gold in Concert.
