What I liked about this movie is it focused more on the people who were trying to catch the killer rather then the killer himself, but in some ways it presented the killer in a less grandios manner then other films would by simply showing him as a killer who simply faded into the background. My favorite scene is when they capture him in a KGB manner.
The Soviet bureaucracy wasn't merely incompetent. They were downright callous! They had him back in '84 but the brass had him released because he was a Communist Party member in good standing (despite having lost his teaching job for fondling a student). The movie implies that the repressiveness of Soviet society might have been part of what made Chikatilo the way he was (or perhaps just made him worse). So then why was he a Party member? Why did he prey on the innocent? Hypocrite!
this movie is extremely good, I saw this year, 2011, and I could not help but feel the same frustration, real or imaginary, of his pursuers, almost on the verge of tears, thank God I can still feel empathy, any way , great movie, you must see
Ya people will make up confessions under torture. When you are being tortured there is no end in sight, so you give them what they want, and get proven not guilty later (hopefully).
When you torture someone you can get them to confess to anything. It is non-productive. It has been shown to be more effective to 'befriend' the enemy and get them to open up to you.
Under torture, you would say anything to get them to stop. This is well known.
And terrorism is a relatively small threat. Inside jobs, on the other hand ... wars ... draw your own conclusions.
as far as serial killer based movie's go i tend to prefer to just watch the documentaries, read the documents, look at the pictures, and watch what actual footage / interviews they have. unless they keep it as close to the actual case as possible i find it to disappointing to enjoy. usually because the real thing is a far better story. can anyone tell me how legit this movie is as far as details go? just so i know if i should go through the trouble of tracking it down. would much appreciate!
@Sammicsno Been sleeping well lately? If you have, it's because people have been "pressing" other people in order to get to the truth. Maybe this is why there hasn't been a major terrorist attack against the US in 10 years. Grow up and smell the explosives.

This dude was a suspect after his first murder.
It's typical of the police to overlook evidence - some other man copped it for this first murder because they gained a confession under torture.
Sadly, torture techniques still are used to gain information.
When are people going to wake up and realise that torture achieves nothing??
