No way should have ND won this one. SDSU came out with tremendous momentum and they took it to us. We couldn't get anything done. But the thing that is a pisser is that SDSU has much, much fewer resources to field a football team. It's a Cal-State U, and they've had shrinking resources by the year. Only six of 22 cal states have football teams, and I wouldn't be surprised if SDSU and Sacramento drop their's. Point being they played us tough, and with so much less. No excuses this year..
Notre Dame was roughly 2-3 inches from losing to San Diego State! If that ball broke the plane of the end zone Notre Dame would not have gone to a Bowl game and Charlie would have been fired for sure> FACT!
it makes me mad because everyone gives notre dame all their championships (13) and they try to always take away ours (alabama 12), when notre dame won 6 of theirs before 1930 lol, and we only won 2 before 1960, and then won 10 up till now, i mean that's just rediculous
What's ridiculous is how you're complaining about this. You don't even know the facts (6 ND champs before 1930? No, that's incorrect) How long before you sue the AP for not voting you #1 this year?
y would we claim to be #1, we got our ass beat by utah fair and square lol, but yes notre dame won 6 before 1930, i think the guy was named...uh... Knute Rockney.
i'm not dissing anything about ND, it just makes me mad because they try to take away some of our championships
From when? Rockne's championships, according to what is commonly accepted, were in 1924 and 1930. That's 2. Not 6. ND, USC, and Bama are tied at 11 according to my (and most of the the college football world's) count. On an unrelated note, if we can get it together, I'd love to see ND and Bama line up versus each other soon.
u 2, my cusin is an assistant at bama, and he said that we picked up penn state for 2010 and 2011, and we're working on notre dame or somthin like that
Sounds awesome. Hopefully our new AD isn't scared of a matchup like that for around 2013-2014. I know we play OU in 2012 or 2013, so playing you guys in the same year is unlikely, but possibly the year after. I'd like to see it happen. Hopefully we can get back to the BCS and play you guys in a bowl game even sooner. Regardless, beatdown the Tuberville-less Tigers (and UF, for goodness sake) this year.
ndlostagain, I am a die hard ND fan and I feel bad that sorry ass individuals could do something so shameful to team players like this. too bad they didn't get caught. I am depressed at ND's performance and I have had enough. I think Charlie needs to do the honorable thing and step down as head coach. he is tainting not only his own image as a formidable coach but also ND's image as a traditional prideful School. I don't want the school to fire him, I want him to step down by years end.
We did not throw footballs at our own football players! WE ARE ND. The media completely misrepresented what happened. The snowballs were being thrown around in the student section BEFORE we were even losing. We are in college, and there hadn't been snow in a game for years we were having fun. Yes, a couple snowballs sadly got to the field but NEVER aimed to our team. Most students could not even throw that far if they tried. GO IRISH. Love thee Notre Dame.
Ilsecita, I never said anything about footballs being thrown at the players so I'm not sure who your response is to. Anyhow, ND needs a new look and a new Head coach otherwise the gold helmets and its proud history will be tarnished forever.
wholly33 sorry, my computer is dying and deleted snowballs and copied the footballs par twice. I should have double checked anyways. And yes, hopefully things get better next year. GO IRISH!
notre dame is a joke?? when are they going to play real teams instead of sand diego st or all the military academies?? couldn't get the coast gaurd on the schedule this yr??
Hi, I'm wholly33, lol. Ihave glaring erorrrs lool in my posts. Don't lisin to me lol, because I cant' constrect completes senetences lol./
The molder of men is going to get creamed this year. Drop your jibber jabber about chauncy. ND doesn't want him and Washington isn't going to want him for much longer.
damn it. idc what you think has improved. the Irish are not at the level they need to be at. i'm kinda worried. hopefully we'll knock off Michigan or i'll never hear the end of it. IRISH!
Irish did not play well, but... they would have lost that game last season, they did not give up a sack, jimmy c threw 3 td's, the special teams played well with the exception of the mblotched fg attempt. Michael Floyd showed he is ready to step up as a true fresh. Golden Tate was unbelievable, the defense was knocking down balls and getting after it, hell, this was their first game. I thought they have improved greatly!
It's fun debating, but at the end of the day we can't buy into all the hype, believe all the great predictions, and listen to all the positive things the team has to say during a press conference. I'll be fully convinced when the games are won.
NDIrishfan93, I like your thoughts on this. If ND shows a better performance than all of last season and the first game against a team that shouldn't have been able to play and ND's level, than I will begin to give hope to ND. I am one of the most dedicated ND fans around and I stick with them through good and bad times. However, I do call a duck what it is... a duck and expect more out of traditional School like ND. Right now, ND is a wounded duck that needs fixing.
elcoger2, I agree, Clausen I believe is trying to establish his own image there at ND, but that long hair has got to go. He looks like a little sissy.lol
The crappy thing about this game naturally was the...officials. Crum's Pass interference? No. Hughes was not just down, but way down. And I thought the SDS RB was over the line before he fumbled - and I'm a ND fan.
I was very upset by the showing of our offense. They looked inept, and tragicly unprepared. The only upside I saw was the catch by Michael Floyd, besides that, it looks to be another long year for These Irish eyes. P.S. I thought Weis said we were going to pound the rock... We had several crucial opportunities, early to develope a power identity ie.. (3rd&2; 3rd&1; and 3rd&3) and we didn't run the football. I think that until we can get people worried about our run game it will be tough to win.
Um, what about the other touchdown catches by Tate and Grimes? You just remember the Floyd catch and chalk everything else up as crap? That's completely ignorant.
Offense does look improved (Hughes knee was down--that wasn't a fumble. Big question mark next to Kamara). The defense looks decent.
But, I am worried about the running game too--for one thing, the RBs look painfully slow. Even Allen looks a bit slow out there.
LetsGoND, I actually agree with your point that their RB's look very slow. But I do have faith that once the season gets rolling, that'll change. and although the defense did not exactly impress me either, they held the ground and gave ND the breaks they needed to turn the game around.
first and foremost, your use of ignorant is unfounded. I was simply commenting on the fact that it was a freshman who made the grab. I expect Kamara/Grimes to make those catches, they were not too difficult.
As for hughes fumble he didn't look down to me either, but you win some you lose some; besides he should never have put the ball on the turf to begin with. let's not forget we did catch a break on the fumble inside the 5 by states hb. He was definately down...
i disagree we had many drives were we drove down the field but then we had so many stupid mistakes like botched field goal duval kamara off the chest, duval kamara dosn't know where the ball is,our offense moved the ball they just need to cut out the small mistakes
OK, Wholly we get it! Just enjoy the vidoe and shut your mouth.Honestly, no one needs you repeating the same thing. We just have to cheer on our team and deal with the wins or losses. OK?
kalo92, I don't think you do get it. As I can see you are too young to understand the real ND and the pride and traditions that helped build what they are today. ND was far better than what they are today and I'm just one of those people who doesn't stand for a shit product. I recognize that you accept shit and allow it to build, where as I believe Weis has not helped the team mature and needs to be replaced. I come from a generation that calls it what it is-a failure! that needs to be fixed!
Huh? Failure? You seem to be omitting the two big BCS games in '05 and '06. Yes, I know they happened to lose those BCS games. The bottom line is, it's going to take time for ND to reach dominance--no matter who's coaching. And, you know what? It's going to take *extra* time because ND hired an NFL coach who's adapting to both the college world and being a head coach--and he's doing so now. Weis loves ND more than anything; he will continue to adapt and iron things out.
LetsGoND, As for Weis, he's supposed to be a Master of Offense yet his players look like they don't have a clue. He's no Lou Holtz by any stretch of the imagination. Theres one difference between the NFL and College, the level of quality players competing yearly for there position. Compare the way Ty's players played to Weis' players. In the Military a good leader takes a less than talented group and makes them better. Weis has failed in that sense! so in the military, he would've been axed!
Yes, Lou Holtz, you bring up an interesting point. Look at Lou and Ara, they had a wealth of college *and* head coaching experience before coming to ND. Weis does not have this experience. Period.
And, if you think the only difference between NFL players and kids coming out of high school to play college ball for ND is quality of play, you're sadly mistaken.
There's got to be quite a different mindset in getting these guys up to snuff to play.
LetsGoND, Ty Golfingham lol thats funny, yet we have a "Master Of Offense" who can't get a college football program to play even as good as Navy. You keep saying Weis' issue is his lack of college football experience, thats a sorry excuse. Here is a man who came from the NFL how many super bowl rings and can't get a team to function right? what about Pete Carol who was fired from the NFL and look at USC?
Pete "the poodle" Carroll is some kind of hyperactive coaching freak who's able to connect with the kids very well. It's served him well.
But on the otherhand with USC there's this whole Reggie Bush scandal (which may cause USC to be stripped of a national title by the way). USC players are proving to be thugs and hoodlums, but can play some football.
I sure don't want ND to sink low and get those kinds of guys just to win.
LetsGoND, you're drifting away again on another path. Reggie Bushs' troubles off the field had something to do with renting a room from Leinarts father... that has nothing to do with Pete Carrolls achievements vs ND's. In that case lets look at Northwestern and Stanford, Cal Berkley, even Navy and they have strong academic programs and athletes that play effectively. You don see them getting in trouble. why them and not ND? I'd rather have Pete than Weis!
The Poodle has, no doubt, figured out how to develop and motivate kids at SC. That is a fact. Hopefully Weis (and his staff) can do some of that too. They have to.
Renting a room? Try limousines, suits, airfare, misc spending money and whatever else Reggie's family got.
My point is: I hope Weis can connect with the players like Carroll, and create some great football teams. And, not tap into the USC mojo of: thugs, hoodlums, and selfish money grubbing.
LetsGoND, even the family issue is not exactly a reggie Bush issue. He wasn't directly involved with that particular issue which is still being investigated. now, I would be real careful with the thugs and hoodlums comments, because ND has had some issues with Clausen that were minor, but don't forget the RAPE CASE that took place there a few years back resulting in 5 ND Players being expelled. ND has a good record for great student athletes but they are not perfect either.
LetsGoND, You see ND has had its issues but I would take ND's student athletes any day over USC's just for maturity, intellectually and they don't get in trouble like other students due on most campuses. My point is not to trash ND because I am a true fan, My point is to point out whats going on knowing that ND is far better than what they are showing on the field. There are ND haters around the league so I want ND to play like they use to and leave no doubt that they are proud to be ND!
LetsGoND, you see the news on espn? Yeatman and Golic both charged with misdameanor charges. Now the charge may have been non violent type charges, but if you get enough of them over and over, sooner or later they make the school look pretty bad. Evidently, ND has a problem with Alcohol related incidents that seems to plague the football team. Jimmy and two other players were involved with earlier incidents. this is why I say, be careful on how you down grade USC with the Thug talk.
Once again, you spew a bunch of stuff without any consideration into details.
Never said ND didn't have probs.
USC is in a different league. Starting in '04 / '05 there's been number of alleged sexual assaults against women (including an incident with current QB, Sanchez), and other assault and battery charges against other players. There's news on some shady business with the recruiting of current RB, Joe McKnight. I won't even get into Reggie's stuff again.
LetsGoND, I can finally say that I am starting to get pretty happy with ND's performance especially in their passing game. They may need to work hard on their ground game with the use of Armando Allen more often... I think he is the main guy that will get them rolling on the ground. The use of hughs will also help in that area as well. I'm not so impressed with aldridge because he seems too underpowered and fumbles quite often. does anyone know why ND did not use hughs against MSU?
Also, yes, Jimmy was involved with some sort of party (the famous Internet photo) with some sort of beverage(s). Yes, it probably was beer. As far as I know, he didn't get into trouble. We only have a photo to go by in this case.
The drinking thing is a common social outlet with college students. Almost all colleges are going to have this activity. It's not a shocker. I'm not condoning it. BTW, Yeatman is probably gone. He really messed up.
LetsGoND, I am feeling a lot more comfortable with Jimmys passing game. I actually like the guy now and I feel that he is who belongs in the backfield. His arm is very accurate and is usually on the money with his passes. With the use of Floyed and the other wides, ND is starting to really look like an awesome passing team in the near future. I don't want to get over excited though because they still have work to do. But being ND's biggest critic, I am once again excited to watch them play
LetsGoND, well yes and no, I will give Weis credit for preparing them more this season than last. I will also give him credit for handing the play calling over to his offensive coordinator... that was a smart move. I say that because Weis lacks the College game experience which is something his coordinator has shown he understand better than Charlie. So lets give credit where credits due, not just to Weis but both Defensive and Offensive coordinators.
LetsGoND, I gave Weis credit because I call it like I it. But let me take it a step further and explain myself clearly. I give Charlie credit for handing over some of the control to his OC, I also give him credit for ensuring that the team is well prepared and able to match their opponents better. Charlie may be good for the NFL but not entirely so good at the college level. how many big time college football programs do you think would hire Weis? especially after last season? not many
LetsGoND, well ND definitely needs a new face and I think Charlie needs to take action on his own and step down. He would get more respect from the public and fans not to burden the Team with continuous suffering. Him staying as the coach only prolongs the programs pain and tarnish image. I think it would be selfish of Weis not to do the honorable thing and resign. If he truly cares about ND and its tradition, he will step down without getting fired. if not, than ND needs to fire him.
Ha, I havent logged in for a while--I figured there'd be some messages waiting for me on here.
First off, it kills me to see how close they came to having a very good record this year. Clausen was looking fine, things were coming together. After the Pitt loss, I think team morale went downhill fast.
I predicted they'd win 7 games this year.
Anyway, I say let Charlie have another year. If he falls flat on his face and blow-outs pile up, then yeah, lets think about some replacements.
You guys werent ever close to having a good record. You just got out to a good start because you beat lousy teams. Then when the schedule got harder, you guys crapped the bed against every quality team you played, and then lost to Syracuse. Your team's only win against a .500 or better team was against Navy. Your record is better, but your team has improved only slightly. Take heart, you guys have a bowl game yet to lose.
I suppose "good" is a term that can be interpreted differently by some. To me, 9-3 *is* a good record.
Lost to Pitt by 3 in quadruple overtime. North Carolina by 5 mainly because of a pick-six by Clausen-- tight game throughout. Syracuse by 1 point. Three close games right there.
Im sorry, but 9-3 with your schedule is not good. You played two of the worst teams in the B10, one dimensional offenses of Pitt and MSU. Your only excusable losses were to BC and USC. Even then BC is not that good either. That and for a team as always hyped by the media and having as many good recruiting classes recently...you should be aiming higher. Years ago your fans wouldve vomited at a 9-3 record. You guys USED to be good. Now you are just happy to beat anyone. Enjoy the Hawaii Bowl lol.
And your team isn't close to matching ND's historic legacy. ND could be mediocre for the next 20 years and people would still get riled up about them.
hey guys...i can't think of a good song for next weeks highlights...if you have some ideas...send me 2 songs...a song for if they win...and a song if they lose...
The only highlights? The defense looked improved and more aggressive and Tate may have become a little more well rounded receiver. I agree though, they may be lucky to hit .500 and I'm a fan. I question their player development abilities bigtime and think a few more assistants will get the axe after the year is finished.
I'm not panicked yet but if they don't improve bigtime Michigan will destroy them again.
Offensive looked terrible and inexpierienced. The defense won't make it 3 quarters against Mich & USC if they are on the field the entire time because Clausen & Wies can't put together a series that gives them a break.
IAforND, You're not be panicked yet? are you kidding me? even if they had won by 3 touch downs I still remain disappointed in whats going on with ND. Can't you see that? how can you be comfortable with how they're playing? I cringe when I see them their offense play each down and at times defense too. missing tackles, RB's running for only 3 yrds at a time, offensive line being pushed back by a supposed lesser talented defense... need I say more? this is not true ND football. Weis needs to go!
i do too...im getting a little more comfortable with our offense...once they get rolling...they'll be fine with tate, clausen, grimes, hughes, allen, and kamara...but the defense worries me
WeeManProduction, you worry me! you obviously are not getting it or you are in denial. do a search on here of ND in 1988 and tell me what you see is the difference between now and then?
just trust me...i edited these highlights...im the one who made the video...i watched them and they look great...they just need to get rolling...they'll be fine
WeeManProduction, what game were you watching? they look like an efficient team representative of the traditional fighting Irish to you? You the only person I know who thinks this? everyone feels that ND should have lost this game because they were clearly out played. I'm sorry but I'm Military, I call it like I see it. ND stinks right now and they need to produce a better product. Never turn a blind eye to a broken program. I am sad about what Weis has produced. ND's history deserves better!
Outplayed? Not so--they would have lost if this was true.
ND is young and has problems to iron out. They look improved. National Championship ready? Of course not.
Again, Weis loves ND. I believe I read he obsesses all the time on how to improve the football team. That's the kind of coach ND needs. I agree, he needs to produce. He'll get there.
LetsGoND, they lost against Navy last season and that were blown out by Air Force! Last season was the worse in ND history, so how can you treat this in such a mild way? Weis obsesses on how to improve ND?lol well maybe thats the problem because his obsession is sick if this is the case. How many more years does Weis need? you only gave 5 to Davey and less than that to Ty. Oh by the way, NO MORE excuses for Weis. This year is all Weis fault... so was last season. Produce or leave!
I'm with you on that. Weis probably doesn't have much more time. If he doesn't improve significantly from last year (and they start getting blown out), then, yeah, they *may* look at getting rid of him. Depends on how bad things are going.
If he does OK this season, you keep him. You got to give him time.
LetsGoND, we'll see what happens? lol now thats funny. Weis came to ND with PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL experience, yet can't seem to turn ND around. Is it fair that he gets more of a chance than the former coaches? I think that that just looks very bad for ND. And as far as TY, no matter how you feel about him, I'd rather play with his guys than Charlies, wouldn't you? how can weis send is players out there unprepared so bad that they actually got BLOWN OUT by the Air Force? thats ridiculous!
LetsGoND, Heres a question for you to answer, based on Weis' years at Notre Dame, how many Top Football programs i.e. Florida, USC, Penn State, Ohio State LSU, Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma, Texas etc would accept him as their head coach???
If Golfingham can slide into a head coaching job at another school without missing a beat, after his performance at ND, anything is possible.
Seriously though, Weis has brought ND to the two BCS bowls with prolific offenses. And, so far (knock on wood) this year, he seems to have repaired some of the glaring problems the '07 team had.
So, with all that said, I'm sure he's made an impression with some of the athletic directors out there.
LetsGoND, well what coach led ND to the worse performance and record of ND history... not Ty but CHARLIE WEIS the so called "MASTER OF OFFENSE" WHAT A JOKE lol But regardless, I think the answer is NOT! lol Weis repaired what??? lol listen to espn and see what they think. ND looks like a below average team, I don't know why you're in denial about that. Personally I think even Navy would turn him down. I guess a better question would be would Florida, SC, LSU take weis or their coaches?
LetsGoND, exactly... they only play SDSU who lost to CALPOLY! lol Lets not talk about blowouts because the most embarrassing loss for ND was when they got BLOWN OUT by Air Force. The worse record in ND history belong to CHARLIE WIES! an ill legitimate coach! You worry me because you fail to see the truth especially when you know ND looks so ill prepared by a former "Superior" NFL Coach. its your kind of thinking that got William Hung success on american idol lol ND looks like William Hung lol
LetsGoND, what are you going to say now? I say Charlie shouldn't have to get fired, Instead I feel he should do like Ty just did.... agree to step down... that would be the honorable thing to do. Personally, I think he is hurting his own image as a so called offensive mastermind lol NOT! I would have more respect for him if he volunteered to step down as a coach. He would be a good leader to take that action.
ND looked horrible. Anyone who thinks differently is in a total state of denial. I don't know what kind of program Wies has put together but it looks to me like a repeat of last year. My prediction; 5-7, if they are lucky.
bozolips24, I agree with you, weis is not doing any good for the program. after comparing Ty to Weis... I would rather lose with Ty than weis. at least Ty's team looked like they had some talent when he was at ND. They just don't have the type of talent other schools with strong academics have. Look at Navy, look at Stanford, look Northwestern.. just to name a few. ND's players don't seem to make any plays. no strength and no over all talent. Something is seriously wrong and needs fixing!
I thought they did Ty wrong in major way and they should have given him one more year. ND was ranked #2 in recruiting this year behind BAMA. I don't think it is his recruiting, I think it is his coaching. He is too use to pro. players. These are kids who are not making the big checks. He needs to go.
bozolips24, I agree 100% with you. it sounds funny when you think about Ty's teams and how much better they appeared on the field compared to Weis' teams. Yet, Weis gets an extension and millions of dollars worth a contract. how can anyone not look at that as a racial issue if there isn't any other explanation? I am a die hard ND fan and wished Lou could come back. he was hard core on discipline remember the mistake free offense? compare Lou's teams to Weis.. no comparison! Lou was true ND!

We are ND. We throw snowballs at our own players.
ndlostagain 3 years ago
ndlostagain, I am a die hard ND fan and I feel bad that sorry ass individuals could do something so shameful to team players like this. too bad they didn't get caught. I am depressed at ND's performance and I have had enough. I think Charlie needs to do the honorable thing and step down as head coach. he is tainting not only his own image as a formidable coach but also ND's image as a traditional prideful School. I don't want the school to fire him, I want him to step down by years end.
wholly33 3 years ago
We did not throw footballs at our own football players! WE ARE ND. The media completely misrepresented what happened. The snowballs were being thrown around in the student section BEFORE we were even losing. We are in college, and there hadn't been snow in a game for years we were having fun. Yes, a couple snowballs sadly got to the field but NEVER aimed to our team. Most students could not even throw that far if they tried. GO IRISH. Love thee Notre Dame.
Ilsecita 3 years ago 2
Ilsecita, I never said anything about footballs being thrown at the players so I'm not sure who your response is to. Anyhow, ND needs a new look and a new Head coach otherwise the gold helmets and its proud history will be tarnished forever.

wholly33 sorry, my computer is dying and deleted snowballs and copied the footballs par twice. I should have double checked anyways. And yes, hopefully things get better next year. GO IRISH!

HERD69 3 years ago
Exactly Herd. Huge improvements in key areas from last year.
Skeptics need to chill out. Wait for the MI game to see what happens next.
LetsGoND 3 years ago
It's fun debating, but at the end of the day we can't buy into all the hype, believe all the great predictions, and listen to all the positive things the team has to say during a press conference. I'll be fully convinced when the games are won.
NDIrishfan93 3 years ago
Indeed.
LetsGoND 3 years ago
NDIrishfan93, I like your thoughts on this. If ND shows a better performance than all of last season and the first game against a team that shouldn't have been able to play and ND's level, than I will begin to give hope to ND. I am one of the most dedicated ND fans around and I stick with them through good and bad times. However, I do call a duck what it is... a duck and expect more out of traditional School like ND. Right now, ND is a wounded duck that needs fixing.

jeffmagic32 3 years ago
I was very upset by the showing of our offense. They looked inept, and tragicly unprepared. The only upside I saw was the catch by Michael Floyd, besides that, it looks to be another long year for These Irish eyes. P.S. I thought Weis said we were going to pound the rock... We had several crucial opportunities, early to develope a power identity ie.. (3rd&2; 3rd&1; and 3rd&3) and we didn't run the football. I think that until we can get people worried about our run game it will be tough to win.
cdem16 3 years ago
Um, what about the other touchdown catches by Tate and Grimes? You just remember the Floyd catch and chalk everything else up as crap? That's completely ignorant.
Offense does look improved (Hughes knee was down--that wasn't a fumble. Big question mark next to Kamara). The defense looks decent.
But, I am worried about the running game too--for one thing, the RBs look painfully slow. Even Allen looks a bit slow out there.
LetsGoND 3 years ago
LetsGoND, I actually agree with your point that their RB's look very slow. But I do have faith that once the season gets rolling, that'll change. and although the defense did not exactly impress me either, they held the ground and gave ND the breaks they needed to turn the game around.
wholly33 3 years ago
Armando looks a little better though. Think he'll improve a lot, and soon.
LetsGoND 3 years ago
first and foremost, your use of ignorant is unfounded.
He was definately down...
cdem16 3 years ago
i disagree we had many drives were we drove down the field but then we had so many stupid mistakes like botched field goal duval kamara off the chest, duval kamara dosn't know where the ball is,our offense moved the ball they just need to cut out the small mistakes
gorbowski06 3 years ago

kalo92 3 years ago
kalo92, I don't think you do get it. I come from a generation that calls it what it is-a failure! that needs to be fixed!
wholly33 3 years ago
Huh?
LetsGoND 3 years ago
LetsGoND, As for Weis, he's supposed to be a Master of Offense yet his players look like they don't have a clue. He's no Lou Holtz by any stretch of the imagination. Theres one difference between the NFL and College, the level of quality players competing yearly for there position. Compare the way Ty's players played to Weis' players. In the Military a good leader takes a less than talented group and makes them better. Weis has failed in that sense! so in the military, he would've been axed!
wholly33 3 years ago
Yes, Lou Holtz, you bring up an interesting point. Look at Lou and Ara, they had a wealth of college *and* head coaching experience before coming to ND. Weis does not have this experience. Period.
And, if you think the only difference between NFL players and kids coming out of high school to play college ball for ND is quality of play, you're sadly mistaken.
There's got to be quite a different mindset in getting these guys up to snuff to play.
Let's not bring up Ty Golfingham.
LetsGoND 3 years ago
LetsGoND, Ty Golfingham lol thats funny, yet we have a "Master Of Offense" who can't get a college football program to play even as good as Navy. You keep saying Weis' issue is his lack of college football experience, thats a sorry excuse. Here is a man who came from the NFL how many super bowl rings and can't get a team to function right? what about Pete Carol who was fired from the NFL and look at USC?
wholly33 3 years ago
Inexperience may be an excuse. But it is a fact.
LetsGoND 3 years ago
LetsGoND, you're drifting away again on another path. Reggie Bushs' troubles off the field had something to do with renting a room from Leinarts father... that has nothing to do with Pete Carrolls achievements vs ND's. In that case lets look at Northwestern and Stanford, Cal Berkley, even Navy and they have strong academic programs and athletes that play effectively. You don see them getting in trouble. why them and not ND? I'd rather have Pete than Weis!
wholly33 3 years ago
The Poodle has, no doubt, figured out how to develop and motivate kids at SC. That is a fact. Hopefully Weis (and his staff) can do some of that too. They have to.
Renting a room? Try limousines, suits, airfare, misc spending money and whatever else Reggie's family got.
My point is: I hope Weis can connect with the players like Carroll, and create some great football teams. And, not tap into the USC mojo of: thugs, hoodlums, and selfish money grubbing.
Go Irish!
LetsGoND 3 years ago
LetsGoND, even the family issue is not exactly a reggie Bush issue. He wasn't directly involved with that particular issue which is still being investigated. now, I would be real careful with the thugs and hoodlums comments, because ND has had some issues with Clausen that were minor, but don't forget the RAPE CASE that took place there a few years back resulting in 5 ND Players being expelled. ND has a good record for great student athletes but they are not perfect either.
wholly33 3 years ago
Yeah, I completely forgot about that stuff that went down with ND players in the past. ND has had its share I guess.
With Reggie, I don't know all the details. But overall it doesn't sound good. But, whatever, I'm mostly interested with what goes on with ND.
LetsGoND 3 years ago
LetsGoND, You see ND has had its issues but I would take ND's student athletes any day over USC's just for maturity, intellectually and they don't get in trouble like other students due on most campuses. My point is not to trash ND because I am a true fan, My point is to point out whats going on knowing that ND is far better than what they are showing on the field. There are ND haters around the league so I want ND to play like they use to and leave no doubt that they are proud to be ND!
wholly33 3 years ago 2
LetsGoND, you see the news on espn? Yeatman and Golic both charged with misdameanor charges. Now the charge may have been non violent type charges, but if you get enough of them over and over, sooner or later they make the school look pretty bad. Evidently, ND has a problem with Alcohol related incidents that seems to plague the football team. Jimmy and two other players were involved with earlier incidents. this is why I say, be careful on how you down grade USC with the Thug talk.
wholly33 3 years ago
Once again, you spew a bunch of stuff without any consideration into details.
Never said ND didn't have probs.
USC is in a different league. Starting in '04 / '05 there's been number of alleged sexual assaults against women (including an incident with current QB, Sanchez), and other assault and battery charges against other players. There's news on some shady business with the recruiting of current RB, Joe McKnight. I won't even get into Reggie's stuff again.
There's no comparison here.
LetsGoND 3 years ago
LetsGoND, I can finally say that I am starting to get pretty happy with ND's performance especially in their passing game. They may need to work hard on their ground game with the use of Armando Allen more often... I think he is the main guy that will get them rolling on the ground. The use of hughs will also help in that area as well. I'm not so impressed with aldridge because he seems too underpowered and fumbles quite often. does anyone know why ND did not use hughs against MSU?
wholly33 3 years ago
Also, yes, Jimmy was involved with some sort of party (the famous Internet photo) with some sort of beverage(s). Yes, it probably was beer. As far as I know, he didn't get into trouble. We only have a photo to go by in this case.
The drinking thing is a common social outlet with college students. Almost all colleges are going to have this activity. It's not a shocker. I'm not condoning it. BTW, Yeatman is probably gone. He really messed up.
Finally, yes, I know ND has had other stuff too.
LetsGoND 3 years ago
LetsGoND, I am feeling a lot more comfortable with Jimmys passing game. I actually like the guy now and I feel that he is who belongs in the backfield. His arm is very accurate and is usually on the money with his passes. With the use of Floyed and the other wides, ND is starting to really look like an awesome passing team in the near future. I don't want to get over excited though because they still have work to do. But being ND's biggest critic, I am once again excited to watch them play
wholly33 3 years ago
I agree. His passing is crisp-- could see it last year even, as abysmal as things were. Floyd is amazing.
Again, have to give Charlie Weis time to work. Can count on that he'll work hard everyday in getting the team better.
LetsGoND 3 years ago
LetsGoND, well yes and no, I will give Weis credit for preparing them more this season than last. I will also give him credit for handing the play calling over to his offensive coordinator... that was a smart move. I say that because Weis lacks the College game experience which is something his coordinator has shown he understand better than Charlie. So lets give credit where credits due, not just to Weis but both Defensive and Offensive coordinators.
wholly33 3 years ago
Yes, exactly. His job is to understand weaknesses; make adjustments to the team and staff. Delegate.
Actually, in terms of play calling, the offensive line's big-time improvement is what allowed the offense to completely open up and be dynamic.
It's *not* because Charlie handed over play calling to Haywood (the OC).
(By the way, Charlie still calls plays from time to time too)
So you're giving Charlie credit now when you were screaming for his head, just weeks ago.
LetsGoND 3 years ago
LetsGoND, I gave Weis credit because I call it like I it. But let me take it a step further and explain myself clearly. I give Charlie credit for handing over some of the control to his OC, I also give him credit for ensuring that the team is well prepared and able to match their opponents better. Charlie may be good for the NFL but not entirely so good at the college level. how many big time college football programs do you think would hire Weis? especially after last season? not many
wholly33 3 years ago
I agree with you on that.
Something I posted before, elsewhere:
Weis isn't a college head coach--he never was. He's a man training for a job he already has, and is under pressure to do. Period.
-
I'm willing to wager other programs would give Charlie a shot and allow him to grow. Which he needs to do, and, is doing at ND.
But, big-time high pressure programs? Not sure on that. If he finishes this season strong, then I'd say someone might.
LetsGoND 3 years ago
LetsGoND, well ND definitely needs a new face and I think Charlie needs to take action on his own and step down. He would get more respect from the public and fans not to burden the Team with continuous suffering. Him staying as the coach only prolongs the programs pain and tarnish image. I think it would be selfish of Weis not to do the honorable thing and resign. If he truly cares about ND and its tradition, he will step down without getting fired. if not, than ND needs to fire him.
wholly33 3 years ago
Ha, I havent logged in for a while--I figured there'd be some messages waiting for me on here.
First off, it kills me to see how close they came to having a very good record this year. Clausen was looking fine, things were coming together. After the Pitt loss, I think team morale went downhill fast.
I predicted they'd win 7 games this year.
Anyway, I say let Charlie have another year. If he falls flat on his face and blow-outs pile up, then yeah, lets think about some replacements.
LetsGoND 3 years ago
You guys werent ever close to having a good record. You just got out to a good start because you beat lousy teams. Then when the schedule got harder, you guys crapped the bed against every quality team you played, and then lost to Syracuse. Your team's only win against a .500 or better team was against Navy. Your record is better, but your team has improved only slightly. Take heart, you guys have a bowl game yet to lose.
DarkestNight2084 3 years ago
I suppose "good" is a term that can be interpreted differently by some. To me, 9-3 *is* a good record.
Lost to Pitt by 3 in quadruple overtime. North Carolina by 5 mainly because of a pick-six by Clausen-- tight game throughout. Syracuse by 1 point. Three close games right there.
So, weren't ever close to having a good record?
Eh, that's a false statement.
LetsGoND 3 years ago
Im sorry, but 9-3 with your schedule is not good. You played two of the worst teams in the B10, one dimensional offenses of Pitt and MSU. Your only excusable losses were to BC and USC. Even then BC is not that good either. That and for a team as always hyped by the media and having as many good recruiting classes recently...you should be aiming higher. Years ago your fans wouldve vomited at a 9-3 record. You guys USED to be good. Now you are just happy to beat anyone. Enjoy the Hawaii Bowl lol.
DarkestNight2084 3 years ago
"Now you are just happy to beat anyone"
This is true. Competition is tough. Teams step it up and play ND like it's a bowl game, seemingly.
"Years ago your fans wouldve vomited at a 9-3 record."
Yeah, it's easy to get spoiled. The fans definitely are.
"Enjoy the Hawaii Bowl"
Ugh, I'm hoping ND wins it. Hawaii isn't that bad of a team.
LetsGoND 3 years ago
And your team isn't close to matching ND's historic legacy. ND could be mediocre for the next 20 years and people would still get riled up about them.

IAforND 3 years ago
Offensive looked terrible and inexpierienced. The defense won't make it 3 quarters against Mich & USC if they are on the field the entire time because Clausen & Wies can't put together a series that gives them a break.
bozolips24 3 years ago
IAforND, You're not be panicked yet? are you kidding me? even if they had won by 3 touch downs I still remain disappointed in whats going on with ND. Can't you see that? how can you be comfortable with how they're playing? I cringe when I see them their offense play each down and at times defense too. missing tackles, RB's running for only 3 yrds at a time, offensive line being pushed back by a supposed lesser talented defense... need I say more? this is not true ND football. WeeManProduction 3 years ago
ND's history deserves better!
wholly33 3 years ago
LetsGoND 3 years ago
LetsGoND, they lost against Navy last season and that were blown out by Air Force! Last season was the worse in ND history, so how can you treat this in such a mild way? Weis obsesses on how to improve ND?lol well maybe thats the problem because his obsession is sick if this is the case. How many more years does Weis need? you only gave 5 to Davey and less than that to Ty. Oh by the way, NO MORE excuses for Weis. This year is all Weis fault... so was last season. Produce or leave!
wholly33 3 years ago
I'm with you on that. Weis probably doesn't have much more time. If he doesn't improve significantly from last year (and they start getting blown out), then, yeah, they *may* look at getting rid of him. Depends on how bad things are going.
If he does OK this season, you keep him. You got to give him time.
We'll see what happens.
LetsGoND 3 years ago
LetsGoND, we'll see what happens? lol now thats funny. Weis came to ND with PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL experience, yet can't seem to turn ND around. Is it fair that he gets more of a chance than the former coaches? I think that that just looks very bad for ND. And as far as TY, no matter how you feel about him, I'd rather play with his guys than Charlies, wouldn't you? how can weis send is players out there unprepared so bad that they actually got BLOWN OUT by the Air Force? thats ridiculous!
wholly33 3 years ago
Well from our perspective, that's all we can do--wait and see what happens.
More of a chance? He coached them into two major BCS bowls, what don't you understand about that? And, had one bad season in '07.
The unpreparedness can't be argued against. As I understand it, ND practices have changed a bit to counter this.
Chill out and let's take a gander at the upcoming MI game.
LetsGoND 3 years ago
LetsGoND, Heres a question for you to answer, based on Weis' years at Notre Dame, how many Top Football programs i.e. Florida, USC, Penn State, Ohio State LSU, Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma, Texas etc would accept him as their head coach???
wholly33 3 years ago
Good question. I don't know.
LetsGoND 3 years ago
LetsGoND, well what coach led ND to the worse performance and record of ND history... not Ty but CHARLIE WEIS the so called "MASTER OF OFFENSE" WHAT A JOKE lol But regardless, I think the answer is NOT! lol Weis repaired what??? lol listen to espn and see what they think. ND looks like a below average team, I don't know why you're in denial about that. Personally I think even Navy would turn him down. I guess a better question would be would Florida, SC, LSU take weis or their coaches?
wholly33 3 years ago
Well, Ty and company barely escaped Navy in '02 and in '03 by the skin of their teeth. And, had a host of sad blowouts time and time again.
Stop talking Ty up. Take a gander at Washington too. I'm done with Golfingham now. OK? Thanks.
Yeah, ND has problems, not denying that. Don't care about the ESPN talking heads. Or, other teams.
Repaired what? Well, the O-line & defense looks better. Jimmy looks further developed. But, time will tell. They only played SDSU.
LetsGoND 3 years ago
LetsGoND, exactly... they only play SDSU who lost to CALPOLY! lol Lets not talk about blowouts because the most embarrassing loss for ND was when they got BLOWN OUT by Air Force. The worse record in ND history belong to CHARLIE WIES! an ill legitimate coach! You worry me because you fail to see the truth especially when you know ND looks so ill prepared by a former "Superior" NFL Coach. its your kind of thinking that got William Hung success on american idol lol ND looks like William Hung lol
wholly33 3 years ago

Yeah, ND looked pretty bad, but it's only been one game so far. Good video.

bozolips24, I agree with you, weis is not doing any good for the program. after comparing Ty to Weis...
