i remember reading a story as a kid about children inside a Sundome. It rained on their planet for years and the sun only came out 1/2 hour every 500 years (guess).
Just when the sun was about to come out a little girl was injured and not allowed to go out and play in the sun with the other children. Does anyone know this story?
He's trying to keep them alive as best he can under the circumstances...you'd think they'd try to keep their wits a little more even with all that rain...
That's one mean laser pointer- don't point that thing at anyone's eyes! I bet this was actually pretty tough to film for the actors and crew- who likes standing in the rain for hours? At least they were getting paid the big bucks for their trouble though.
Is it me or was their ship the Icarus from the 1968 Planet of the Apes movie(s)? BTW, a million thanks for posting these videos! Haven't watched this great sci-fi classic in years...
So we loose the invention of the umbrella in the future :( ...but gain rocket tech... so win-lose???

He went near the ship and got contaminated radioactively, I think. He shot him before he could come closer.

I think it had to do with the fact that he went insane from the constant rain fall. Recommend you read the book for the full answers though.
