  • ……. & I hope that you enjoy this, O' Queen of Mossland ~<3~

  • ……. aurora1957, stellar treatment of this S.M.I2.L.E. anthem … THANK you for uploading this gem of a ditty from Baron Von Tollbooth himself, with a little help from his friends,, safe journeys, & may you & yours remain thrice blessed. Namasté ~ (•8-D

  • Dear 54taqiyya -Who was on lead on this version? Jorma or Craig? or..........?

  • @noelpne On the Blows Against the Empire LP David Crosby is credited on guitar and Jerry Garcia on pedal steel for "Have You Seen the Stars Tonight"

  • I was born on the Starship as it left the solar system and sped toward the Tiger galaxy, I never left always on the stardeck sleeping under the stars, waiting for you....

  • WITH ALL RESPECT CAN THE I BELIEVE, IT WAS A FEMALE, THAT POSTED THIS WITH THE NIGHT SKY AND THE FANTASY IMAGES FLOATING ACROSS POST THAT AGAIN PLEASE. IT WAS A WORK OF ART. NONE OF THESE ARE BAD THAT ONE, TOUCHED ME A BIT MORE. THANK YOU----and yes i have seen the stars tonite.

  • @G0K3001

yah, she lost her account, I remember that one, HYSTST studio version with slideshow

    :)

  • @aurora1957A Thanks alot I hope she gets a new account if possible, question what does HYSTST stand for ? Thanks

  • @G0K3001 SORRY, Have You Seen The Stars Tonight...............got it, ...up too late or not up late enough....good thing I checked YT(YOU TUBE jus kiddin)- my account at work.

  • first and i believe only album to be nominated for the Hugo Award for science fiction...the original of course. This is Diana Mangano, Slick Aguilar and probably prarie prince and david frieberg. Saw them live and met them afterwards...a great show...

  • @aurora1957A : Yep. Still a very good version. We'll call it a hybrid version. I would have preferred that Jerry's pedal steel be more out front, as it was on the studio recording.

Just as fyi, CSN have done the same thing with Critical Mass/To The Last Whale in their live shows.

  • When all musical melodies and lyrical intentions combined with powerful performance, this style of Paul was the greatest surreal sound, in my humble opinion!!

  • This is a horrible version. Where's the Blows Against the Empire version?

  • Not the original studio version. I was there.

  • @RobertWaltz

    At PK's 65th? That's pretty impressive!

    :)

  • @aurora1957A : No....when the album was recorded.

  • @RobertWaltz ah... then you can tell which parts are studio and which are live...

    :)

  • @aurora1957A oh oh oh meeeeee!!

  • @54taqiyya

    lol

    :)

  • Original studio version has Garcia killing it on pedal steel and David Crosby singing with Kantner & Slick - the album in total is vastly underrated.

  • One of the best LPs of all time.......

  • this is the studio version

  • ???

  • @aurora1957A my mistake!

  • @54taqiyya definately not the studio version - One of the most gorgeous songs ever ----and the studio version has Garcia at his absolute most awesome on lead . Saw this band in 2007 and I was surprized at how stunning they were in every way -sorry that the woman who sang with them left the band soon after that . She was fantastic -paul Kantner is one of my heroes .

  • @bigbuzman i first heard this at harvard university. a friends older brother said listen to this. lol, i've gone through many copies since then . this version starts just like the studio version. i have a remastered cd with some live crap. nothing like the vinyl for sound, believe me! jerry and the rest made this my all time fav. after kantner left it was over for the starship. like david laflame and it's a beautiful day. sad.

  • @54taqiyya yes it starts with the same studio fx track!

  • @54taqiyya no it's not

  • @apemanstreetwalker , yes, i know every scratch in that intro! :)

    besides, it's a mix, like i said,

"Audio mash up of studio Paul Kantner & PERRO from "Blows Against the Empire" and live Jefferson Starship at Paul Kantner 's 65th Birthday celebration. Video montage illustrating the lyric with elements courtesy of Funkamedic and uh the History Channel :^)"

  • Yeh! Blows against the mind controlling empire! Freedom!

Use the Force Paul Kantner and Rest in Peace Mr. Garcia!!

I wish Grace Wing Slick would make a comeback.

She probably is sick of people saying that, but wow,

this song is rad, but her vocal in this tune gives it a super kewl super rad

    cosmic harmonic sound!!

  • during the tragedy of an oil spill, oh I love ya california artists: and yer ancient music

  • LOVE THIS SONG!

  • for some reason i thought at the time that the starship was a one time only "supergroup" as there was a lot of that stuff going on then. most vivid memory is listening to orson welles "war of the worlds" on the radio one night with a definitely altered consciousness and they followed it up with "have you seen the stars". to use an ancient phrase....TRIPPY!!

  • I loved being 14 years old and taking LSD-25 and listening to this. I'm 50 now and consider that one of the highlights of my life. Have you seen the stars tonight? Would you like to go up on "A" deck and look at them with me? Fuck Crack and Meth!

  • Note the haunting pedal steal in the background.Seems its mixed out in this mix therefore seek further

  • the trips we can take is through a plant like Ayahuasca, because everyone knows that people will never be able to stand on the other side of the universe and look back.

It is just not possible or timely. Anyway, the earth itself can tell you all you need to know.

  • As for inferiority, Kantner is a soulful singer and writer. That this same 'sound' is being produced with the next generation is phenomenal.

I suppose Paul remembers when he used to play this with Jerry & the gang. It still comes through loud & clear.

  • Vastly inferior to the stuido session work that involved Garcia et al

  • uhhhhhh...

    which part?

  • @softlawe I was looking for that Jerry session as well. It's nice to see I was not that lost. Looking as well for the Mind Left Body Jam [Grateful Dead/Paul Kantner]. Cheers

  • @softlawe true

  • Another better version (the original) has Garcia playing lead.

  • @AndrewInKiev Wish someone uploads it, peace!

  • This is such a LOVE SONG! Grace Slick is one of the best singers in this genre ever. God love her.

  • WOW!! thanks for posting that. I have great memories of the summer we listened to this record all night. Peace to all .

  • Hell yeah. Same here.

  • I bought this album off of ebay about 6 or 7 years ago, and I used to get so stoned and just lay on the floor and listen to the B side over and over again. This album is really good for making love, too.

  • I prefer the original off blows against the empire. But such is usually the case with most original songs as they are so difficult to duplicate or improve on.

Love the video added to this.

  • Thank you! It certainly would have been a coup for Paul to have Jerry to playing steel guitar at his 65th birthday concert!

    :)

  • Yes indeed it would have been truly amazing!

It's nice to reminisce, and for that the video is just fine. I was only speaking to listening preferences in case you misunderstood.

  • No it's cool, no problem, I like the LP version too!

    :)

  • I've lived this since a winter spent in Jamestown R.I., 71-72, and now, having moved back 4 years ago and marrying my first love after 33 years apart, I listen to this Every Time I cross the newport bridge, and the rush of coming home is more intense then ever. Great music inspired a great love, and we now stroll together.

  • Inspiring A!

  • Have yo seen the stars tonight?

  • Woweee..thanks for the beautiful old memories of my youth. Great group and great song. I'll be thinking about this one for a while. And the pictures are absolutely amazing. Thanks for posting this.

    peace,

    vicki

  • One of the coolest albums I have ever heard....

  • SPACE IS DÉÉP (Hawkwind Huble)

  • In '72 I traded a Hendrix t-shirt 4 a bunch of chocolate mesc with a hitchhiker that I p/u in my 59' vw micro bus somewhere in the midwest while traveling from ny 2 ca, spent the next 2 weeks going back and forth, up and down and around the rockies, my buddies and I drove 12,000 miles before we got to the coast, with plenty of airplane, doors, dead etc. and castenada, kesey and hunter s. 4 reading material. oh the stars in the desert night and this song. U can't do shit like that anymore.

  • Would have loved to go along...but in '72 I was 10 & I imagine

my parents would have nixed my plans!

  • chocolate mescaline, san antonio, 1972, listening to this over an over with headphones on, i was there and i'll get back

  • I managed to get some chocolate mescaline only once; it was

a great trip and much smoother than the blotter stuff. As I

recall I paid $5 for a hit that provided two trips (Nov 1980).

  • Damn, I was a Johnny-come-lately...only rough blotter acid

for me, but still a damn good trip!

  • whose guitar solo on this live

    version???

  • Slick Aguilar, who currently plays lead (usually) for the band.

  • I play this album, peaking with this song, EVERY time I cross the Newport bridge, heading home, smiling, reminding me of my first acid trip, Jamestown, Beavertail lighthouse, waves crashing, over 35 years ago. P.S. rattley67: the blotters still in your head, the music makes it flow.

  • Still love the song.Where is the pure acid?

  • tripping music

  • i'm far out likes this. reminds of home....

  • awesome.....just awesome....

  • Had to return to this...

  • yep! cassidy i'm here as well...just not long enough....25 minutes...now that's a nice time

  • to get one started going into deeper space!

  • yes... one day i'll give gravity the slip.... with your help......:))

  • The Dreaming Is Real !

  • Growing up to that... there was not a chance I'd ever want to grow to be normal! Such an amazing post ! Wow !

  • reminds me of home lol.....

  • Well done! Thanks to Jerry Garcia on the original album.

Also see "Silent Running", a great movie of the period.

  • i think this is one of the best albums of all time. It was nominated for the "Hugo" award for science fiction. First time ever a music record was nominated.

  • This is GREAT!!
