@G0K3001 SORRY, Have You Seen The Stars Tonight...............got it, ...up too late or not up late enough....good thing I checked YT(YOU TUBE jus kiddin)- my account at work.
first and i believe only album to be nominated for the Hugo Award for science fiction...the original of course. This is Diana Mangano, Slick Aguilar and probably prarie prince and david frieberg. Saw them live and met them afterwards...a great show...
@aurora1957A : Yep. Still a very good version. We'll call it a hybrid version. I would have preferred that Jerry's pedal steel be more out front, as it was on the studio recording.
Just as fyi, CSN have done the same thing with Critical Mass/To The Last Whale in their live shows.
When all musical melodies and lyrical intentions combined with powerful performance, this style of Paul was the greatest surreal sound, in my humble opinion!!
@54taqiyya definately not the studio version - One of the most gorgeous songs ever ----and the studio version has Garcia at his absolute most awesome on lead . Saw this band in 2007 and I was surprized at how stunning they were in every way -sorry that the woman who sang with them left the band soon after that . She was fantastic -paul Kantner is one of my heroes .
@bigbuzman i first heard this at harvard university. a friends older brother said listen to this. lol, i've gone through many copies since then . this version starts just like the studio version. i have a remastered cd with some live crap. nothing like the vinyl for sound, believe me! jerry and the rest made this my all time fav. after kantner left it was over for the starship. like david laflame and it's a beautiful day. sad.
"Audio mash up of studio Paul Kantner & PERRO from "Blows Against the Empire" and live Jefferson Starship at Paul Kantner 's 65th Birthday celebration. Video montage illustrating the lyric with elements courtesy of Funkamedic and uh the History Channel :^)"
for some reason i thought at the time that the starship was a one time only "supergroup" as there was a lot of that stuff going on then. most vivid memory is listening to orson welles "war of the worlds" on the radio one night with a definitely altered consciousness and they followed it up with "have you seen the stars". to use an ancient phrase....TRIPPY!!
I loved being 14 years old and taking LSD-25 and listening to this. I'm 50 now and consider that one of the highlights of my life. Have you seen the stars tonight? Would you like to go up on "A" deck and look at them with me? Fuck Crack and Meth!
the trips we can take is through a plant like Ayahuasca, because everyone knows that people will never be able to stand on the other side of the universe and look back.
It is just not possible or timely. Anyway, the earth itself can tell you all you need to know.
@softlawe I was looking for that Jerry session as well. It's nice to see I was not that lost. Looking as well for the Mind Left Body Jam [Grateful Dead/Paul Kantner]. Cheers
I bought this album off of ebay about 6 or 7 years ago, and I used to get so stoned and just lay on the floor and listen to the B side over and over again. This album is really good for making love, too.
I prefer the original off blows against the empire. But such is usually the case with most original songs as they are so difficult to duplicate or improve on.
I've lived this since a winter spent in Jamestown R.I., 71-72, and now, having moved back 4 years ago and marrying my first love after 33 years apart, I listen to this Every Time I cross the newport bridge, and the rush of coming home is more intense then ever. Great music inspired a great love, and we now stroll together.
Woweee..thanks for the beautiful old memories of my youth. Great group and great song. I'll be thinking about this one for a while. And the pictures are absolutely amazing. Thanks for posting this.
In '72 I traded a Hendrix t-shirt 4 a bunch of chocolate mesc with a hitchhiker that I p/u in my 59' vw micro bus somewhere in the midwest while traveling from ny 2 ca, spent the next 2 weeks going back and forth, up and down and around the rockies, my buddies and I drove 12,000 miles before we got to the coast, with plenty of airplane, doors, dead etc. and castenada, kesey and hunter s. 4 reading material. oh the stars in the desert night and this song. U can't do shit like that anymore.
I play this album, peaking with this song, EVERY time I cross the Newport bridge, heading home, smiling, reminding me of my first acid trip, Jamestown, Beavertail lighthouse, waves crashing, over 35 years ago. P.S. rattley67: the blotters still in your head, the music makes it flow.
i think this is one of the best albums of all time. It was nominated for the "Hugo" award for science fiction. First time ever a music record was nominated.
……. & I hope that you enjoy this, O' Queen of Mossland ~<3~

Yeh! Blows against the mind controlling empire! Freedom!
Use the Force Paul Kantner and Rest in Peace Mr. Garcia!!
I wish Grace Wing Slick would make a comeback.
She probably is sick of people saying that, but wow,
this song is rad, but her vocal in this tune gives it a super kewl super rad
cosmic harmonic sound!!

As for inferiority, Kantner is a soulful singer and writer. That this same 'sound' is being produced with the next generation is phenomenal.
I suppose Paul remembers when he used to play this with Jerry & the gang. It still comes through loud & clear.

recall I paid $5 for a hit that provided two trips (Nov 1980).
