Master kwon once told me there are very few people who can do this kind of break but those who can worked and trained hard to get there an I hope one day when I get my black belt I get the opportunity to watch this break in person
How is this possible? Ok, the stone breaks because it is set up in a way that it can break down easily when ruptured. But still, that hurts... doesn't it??
@shevegen Its possible because he has trained his body to accomplish feats like this for many, many years. I am a black belt in his Federation and have trained with him on several occasions.
I received my black belt under Grand Master Kwon back in the 80's. I've seen him do this rock technique many times. I believe that to be successful at it, you must totally believe that you will be. It's a test of the mind. At the beginning of the video, you see him at the BMW crash testing plant. They measured that the amount of force he creates is equal to ten tons.
I think some of you are underestimating the difficulty of Master Kwon's signature technique... he breaks river rocks, very hard ones at that. These are rocks that would be difficult to break even with a hammer. I believe he is the only person in the world who can do it, and he is an amazing person. He was the master of my Kyosanims, and he tested me to black belt just last year :-)
I also had the honor and privilege to study under him back in the 70's in Ft. Lauderdale. Saw him do the breaking many times. I have so many fond memories learning from the master.
I studied with him for several years in NYC. I watched him do the stone break for two Israeli students who were testing for their black belts. After breaking, he gave each half to the two. Seeing the amount of focused, concentrated force he generates is unbelievable!
maninblack. did you train in new york. he was also my master's master. he was at every one of my promotion tests to 1st degree. I've seen him break rocks many times. by the way my master use to break rocks as well. They are the only two people I've ever seen do it.

It's called a "ridgehand". It is just another effective way to hit something other then punching or using a knifehand.
