@PhuNguyen88 It doesn't matter how long someone has been doing something or if all they do is specialize in one area. If the buffet has a pizza that has toppings that the other guys charge two or even three times as much for, then I'm going for the buffet. Sony does make general electronics and yes, some of them aren't good. But Popular Photography Magazine has named a Sony camera as Camera of the Year for two years now. The a77 has been winning over critics who usually favor Canon or Nikon.

I really like the newer sony cameras because they are very unique and different from the competition including this a77. But I find their products are way overprice. This camera with the 16-50mm f2.8 lens costs $2000, way to much if you ask me, at least compared to Canon.

@Superbustr Huh??? The Canon 7d with kit is almost $200.00 more expensive than the Sony A77 with kit @ B&H, and the A77 blows the 7D out of the water. Comparing the A77 to Canon's 5DMkII would be a more fair comparison (even considering the full-frame/APS-C difference) and the 5DMkII is almost $300.00 more than the A77 FOR JUST THE BODY!

Having used one, I can confirm that the image quality and ISO performance, particularly in the higher range is excellent. The viewfinder is amazing. The A77 is a really big step forward from Sony. The D7000 and 7D are also strong models, however, you always have to bear in mind the system behind the camera body. Both Canon "L" series and Nikon "G" series are exceptional quality. Sony has Zeiss and "G" lenses. Check availability and price of your ideal focal length before purchasing your camera.

I'm a Canon 7D shooter, I love the potential the a77 shows for wildlife and macro photography, I cant wait to see some RAWs processed through ACR and that :) Though a few JPEGs I've seen are quite good, If Sony had an AF version of the Carl Zeiss 100mm f/2 Makro-Planar, I think I might switch actually

@TheWestSideBboy Don't forget that the 7D can actually shoot at burst for ~110 frames. The a77, at most, is about 18 frames.

@TheWestSideBboy I shoot semi pro, and I switched from Canon to Sony. Within a month of the switch I had a job shooting some editorial work. I am here to tell you, I was SO happy with the switch and their Carl Zeiss lenses are amazing

@TheWestSideBboy As much as I love the a77 (spectacular looking piece of equipment), I have to disagree on the ISO performance side. High ISO performance advantages go to D7000 for 1600 and beyond. It's expected due to pixel density of the two.

Personally, I still feel they are lacking in the lens department. However, in time, that problem would be solved as well.

I still can't get over how sleek the design of it is. You should definitely get it.

All the features u point out are mostly physical. We are talking bout a DSLR here not a joystick.

The IQ and ISO performance of A77 is horrendous.

@ikki9394 My fault. I wrote that comment too fast, I was in a hurry. What i mean was I want to have a camera that has better ISO performance than D7000 without going with D3s. I own a 7D and D90, but I'm thinking about switching one of those (most likely D90)..I mostly shoot sports and wildlife (birds). So A77 seems like a good choice, but we'll see how the final product performs. I haven't made my final decision. If it perform poorly to my expectation, It's either wait for 7D mk2, or D400.

But legendary Minolta Maxxum lenses are even better than Canon and Nikon and they are fully compatible with SONY cameras! I would put my SONY A77 with our 28-135MM 1:4-4.5 head to head up against any camera and lens combo in this price range and have sharper photos with better color. We edit photos from over 200 photographers with every camera/lens combo you can imagine and none are close to what we are getting with the A77/Minolta 28-135 combo :D

@djRINAMARIE Thanks for the reassurance about the a77 with the KM 28-135mm. I was hesitant to use this combo at a wedding yesterday, since the 28-135 isn't my fastest lens, but it was the only one I had with a polarized filter for the super-sunny day. The results were amazing. All of my lenses are old Minoltas - they do have great color. Nice to know I'm not missing anything from Canikon, and reaffirms that I made the right decision to buy the spectacular a77!

I just wonder how is diffraction going to affect the pictures in landscape. Also the buffer is pretty short, just 13 frames in HI mode so...1 second! I'm a Canon FF User but this camera is incredibly tempting.

@SquirrelFromGradLife the max frames to be taken at HI is 13 Frames, this is a bit more than one second before the camera stops shooting and the buffer is fully loaded. (reading the specs) And stating there is no diffraction is just wrong. I bet diffraction kicks in at around f5.7 to f6.3.

In the video you can see the guy shoots way more than one second bursts several times in a row and you completely ignored that which is hilarious.

@grafli actually no your Fuji thing is not the fastest digital camera at all. They're talking about consumer digital "DSLR" type cameras... Yeah the a77 is a DSLT but it still competes with the traditional mirror operated cameras.

@watduzhkstand4 You know that the term DSLR is commonly referred to as a family of cameras more than a specific type of camera by most people. If you ask 90% of DSLR users they have absolutely no idea how their camera works and what kind of technology that powers it right?

It's like people putting the mirrorless Panasonic GH2 in the DSLR category. It's perfectly fine because just adding new categories just to satisfy the very anal technology purists will just add to the total confusion
