  • to the kitchen ! post haste !

  • This video is the only one that I could find that actually helped me with my problems with my Floyd Rose on my RG350. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!

  • Is the Floyd Rose and Edge 3 that much of a different setup? I know they are different but I hope the Edge 3 isn't too bad. I am not a beginner so I should not have any problems. The guitar I want is the Ibanez GRGA32t. It is just the right guitar for me. I am choosing it over the ESP mh50 (FR). which is also good but the Ibanez just looks and seems like it would fit my style more.

  • What guitar is this? :)

  • I had major problem with my Kramer Nite V guitar when i changed the strings last time. But after had seen your video i did get things right again and now i change the strings with out any problems. Thanks from sweden.

  • Thank man

  • is it a good idea to snip off he end of the strings to insert it into the bridge?

  • great tutorial :)

  • Incredibly helpful, thanks so much. =D.

Definitely gonna have to give that spoon trick a try. Probly gonna weird out anyone who notices that I'm keeping a spoon with my guitar stuff, but that's just an added bonus, haha.

  • Great vid! Watched a bunch of voids but none have been quite as straight forward and helpful. Loved the spoon tip. Thank you.

  • i have a flyod rose. why do i find in very hard to do fast tremolo picking? even that my guitar is in starndard tuning, the strings feel very loose. why???????????//

  • that looks more lyk an edge pro 2 from ibanez

  • Where can you get the fourth spring? I have no clue.

  • "I took off all the old strings and put in new ones. " oh fine. BUT HOWWW!!!!???

  • Thanks a ton :-) My old FR guitar was just collecting dust till today. The spoon thing did the trick!

  • Germany and Jeremy ahahhaahhahaha sounds too good :D

  • If someone makes fun of anybody who's got an accent of any kind is immature and doesn't have respect for others, in my opinion. Good job, btw, on your explanation. I just had one question. I saw another youtube video and the guy cut off the ball ends of the strings when inserting them into the bridge end. Does it matter if you do this or is it just preference?

  • @btbamdep Without cutting off the ball head, the strings will not fit in. So you have to do that.

  • @btbamdep Nope, actually the bridge in the video is not a floyd rose, it's an edge tremolo. The original floyd rose and it's licensed copies do not have the space for the string ball, but the edge (pro?) has it.

  • Does this work for strats aswell im trying to recreate the ESP Strat custom that Kirk Hammett used in the "One" music video

  • Excellent video! Thanks for the tips!

  • awesome dude.. I sort of did this too but when ever i play with the tremolo bar the guitar goes out of tune again.. any suggestions?

  • Awesome this was the info I was looking for. I use to use slinky 9s, for years and never changed them, wasn't sure what I needed to do when I wen to the slinky hybrid 9s. I thought it was the spring but wasn't 100% sure. Thanks.

  • Iv had a guitar with a floyd rose for like 5 years and never used it properly, im scared im gona brake it haha, how ruff can you be with these things?

  • Hi Martin,

First of all, thank you for this tutorial. It's really clear to understand. And your accent is not so bad btw ;)

I just have a question. To Hold up the Floyd Rose (when you use a battery), which size should my item make (approximatly, in cm) ? I don't have that kind of battery, I though about using my cell phone but i'm not sure if its size is good. ^^"

    Thanks dude !

  • Awesome! Thanks!

  • how can i put my floyd rose into drop d tunning without getting other strings put of tune?

  • @polishskaterdude32 First unlock the nut. Then unscrew the fine tuner on the bridge which controls the low E string as much as possible, then tune the string to D. Then lock the nut. To get the string back to E, just tighten the fine tuner you loosened all the way up or until the string is E again, which you can do without having to unlock the nut. It's not the greatest method but works on my guitar.

  • @SchnauzeDoof great! what shall i do when i tune back to E with fine tuners and other strings go out of tune?

  • I would suggest you guys this..Why to put battery there...when you can simply remove floyd. Just remove springs from behind, and floyd will pop up. Then you easy use allen wrench and remove strings...Easy as that.

This video ...Thats not the only way, you know...

  • so today was my first time trying to do this, and it spent me 2 hours of nonstop tuning and screwing, it broke my allen wrench and completely killed my fingers. i almost cried :(

  • @bloodbird6six6 It gets easier, trust me. Besides, this isn't the only way to work a floyd rose, check out some other videos. Not saying this is a bad way, just saying there are multiple ways of doing it. They all just have the same end result, lol.

  • @Bludhoundz8 yea this was my first floyd rose guitar so i guess ill have to just practice more haha

  • @bloodbird6six6 Good luck :)

  • @Bludhoundz8 thank you :D

  • thanks helped a lott!! :)

  • Uhm, aren't you supposed to change the strings 1 at a time instead of removing them all? For this you wont need to put a piece of wood or anything under the bridge...

  • that spoon trick is brilliant!

standard rule: spring tension == string tension.

You've saved me $65, thank you

  • how do i make just my top E string lower?

  • @polishskaterdude32

unscrew the string lock at the nut, and tune it down however you like. For me, 9 times out of 10 the other strings arent really affected. I usually just use the fine tuners to fix the other strings out.

  • @Magicmaker1234 dude! i meant how do i get my E string lower in action. now i got it to high o the neck!

  • ur accent is fine, gud vid 2

  • FUCK FLOYD ROSE

  • what happen when you don't have an equal Spring - String tension?

  • @AlexJasso100 It puts unnecessary strain on your strings, and they break faster.

  • @AlexJasso100 the tremolo either gets into the body, so you should loose the two screws, or it gets away from the body, and then you should tighten them a little, or so I understand ...

  • great job! thanks for sharing!! =D

  • Cheers dude the accent is ace, german people always seem good at language, my sons guitar teacher is a guy called majk moti who used to play for running wild and his accent/language is also excellent.

  • what is the difference to set the springs straight forward or in a single point like a triangle ?

  • Haha you've been to Pukkelpop a few years back, hope you weren't there this year though...

Anyway thx man you helped me getting into drop C

  • thanks so much for the clear instructions. You might want to check out a product available on the internet called saddle singers (google them). they help reduce string breaks and also improve the tone. neat little gadgets for a few quid !! Helped me alot !!

  • don't ever apologize for your accent again. you speak more succinctly than most americans. this tutorial helped a lot. thanks

  • my problem is that my strings won't stay in tune after i tune it, even when i follow the steps with the spoon thing. what should i do? please help.

  • @changandy90 dont tune them straight top to bottom. skip every other string then go back and do it again

  • If I have 9 gauged strings on my 7 string guitar, is 4 the right amount of springs to use?

  • I love the accent

  • I love the accent

  • my guitar got 2 springs 0.0 can u help? my high E string is 10, B 13, G 17, D 30,

A 42, E 52, and yeh that should be it

  • @strangestalker3456 you want a gauge with your high E being 9, B 11, G 16, D 26, A 36, low E 46, thats your best bet for 2 springs.... reduces the tension on the 2 springs.

  • This is such a good video. But it still doesn't work out for me...

I need to screw the 2 screws at the back in to the end, but I don't have my big screwdriver with me here.

now I know why some people hate FR's, not because of the playing, but because of the hours spent on figuring it out. Oh well, when I master it, I'll make it my slave. My bitch.

  • @Athehra I lmfao :)

  • Can't thank you enough for this video, I had barely played my Ibanez in a year because of frustration at the tuning going out every time I bent a string. It was because the spring tension was greater than the string tension, I had a rough idea of this but not a clue how to fix it until your video. Und dein Englisch ist viel besser als mein Deutsch :)

    Cheers from Scotland

  • my low E and A strings buzz a little bit near above the 15th fret. Anyone have any ideas? I think I used the wrong screws to ajust the bridge at one point.

  • Your string tension need to be equal to your string tension...

  • in this video you have a edge pro bridge and your whammy bar doesnt move!! how you do that?

  • nice spoon tip! anyway it is good to see that if the tension is equal to both sides it works no matter what ;)

  • thankt"s my friend very mutch!!

  • so this works when changing tuning? When I change my guitar into drop C I just unlocked the locking nut and tuning, and it always resulted in a lot of fret buzz and the bridge going down. So if I do the spoon trick, I won't get any moar fret buzz?

  • DO NOT use spoon or any object to block the bridge on that area..it will pop-up your bridge post and it will result a long term damage..if you really want to block the bridge put something in the back part of the guitars metal part to block it...

  • Haha, thankyou so much man, this video really helped me out. (: !

  • Why can't I find a video on how to put one of these damn things ON a guitar.

  • you're doing something wrong

  • i must have tht spoon

  • That looks like a Fullerton guitar with an Ibanez head stock!

  • How much does a Floyd Rose tremolo cost used, I have one and I want to sell it.

  • FAIL at 0:46 lol

  • is your guitar neck slightly tilted or not?

  • Omg this actually worked!

Thank you soo much for the spoon part.

My bridge went lower when I tried to tune it to standard B.

    cheers,

    ~Lord Otrogen

  • The spoon trick will save my life.

  • my floyd's trem arm can vibrate without moving the floyd rose itself, das is eine grosse probleim für mich, habt sie eine lösung, das floyd rose tremolo is eine billiger kramer model auf dem kramer pacer classic series 2010

  • @skylineXpert and i use the floyd A LOT, and its a non recessed

  • no offense, but there's a pretty big difference between Floyd rose and ibanez edge pro... that a pro

  • I have a question, I have recently gotten my spring tension on my floyd rose fixed up (this is the first time I have my spring tension at the right position with my time with this guitar) and I really don't know how I go among detuning my low E to a D, do i use the knobs at the bridge, or do i take off the nut and use the pegs?

  • Aachen....Had a friend from there.

  • Ich wohn auch in Aachen :D

  • very good video

  • Very well done and very informative. thanks!

  • PUKKELPOP

  • wtf? when i changed strings today my bridge was leaning so much forward that i could not dive it :( and i tried to adjust the springs in the back but that didnt work either...... i dont know if it has something to do with that i changed from 09 to 11 strings? someone please help me!

  • @deadgame6w i would stick with 9's or put all really tight spring in the back, if that all doesnt work, get it checked out ,and if your bridge was down did it fret out bad

  • we didnt see your face. are you horribly disfigured? anyway this was helpful. thanks

  • I used a fork and my guitar exploded :(

  • @konothecook Really??? O-o????

  • @konothecook HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

  • dude.... you accent is EPIC....

  • Comment removed

  • @hatecrewmetal14 as tight as can be

  • Right, so im setup, the trem is floating in the right posistion, but when i use the tremelo bar, and dive or pull up, it just de tunes... help?? D:

  • I changed my strings for the first time and followed these directions very carefully. My bridge is horizontal with the body, but every time pull up or dive down with the trem bar, my guitar goes out of tune. I did not have this problem before i changed the strings. Does anybody have any idea of what may be causing this?? thanks

  • @MxMorningstarXx

did you lock the tune lockers?

you might have forgotten about them. Every guitar with a Floyd Rose system has it I believe. Otherwise it would mean that the guitar isn't set-up right. When I bought my guitar with Floyd Rose system I had the 'detuning problem' too.

  • @Thompsongast honestly man, i'm not too sure what a tune locker is. are you referring to the clamps at the nuts? if so, i definitely did that. if that's not what you're talking about, and it was showed in the video, i think i probably did it.

  • @Thompsongast

yeah the tune lockers are those screw-things at the nut.

I had the same detuning problem when diving etc. I brought my guitar to a guitar-tech in the local store and he set my guitar up the way it should have been set up. Now I don't have any problems with de-tuning. Only the intonation is a bit off.

  • Great video and you spoke very well.

  • dude, my bridge keeps on going all the way up, and it untunes my guitar. Any body have any suggestions?(I tightened the screws in the back all the way by the way, and the the tremolo keeps on staying way up high)

  • @The666Slayer yea same with me dude grrrr

  • @The666Slayer Dude I think that you should untighten the screws and try again.

  • @The666Slayer Hi mate, try loosening off the two screws that hold the spring claw, rather than tightening, that should raise the bridge.

  • I want a spoon whammy bar

  • Cheers for the tutorial. Just a little heads up for those using Inanez Edge variants, you actually want the bridge to be coming a little, and not completely flat.

  • nice spoon

  • Need help ! I use ernie ball skinny top heavy bottom but it's too hard to pull the bridge back. If I force it, it would break. When I set that strings, I've cut the ball but I didn't cut the thicker string side near it. Is it okay? Sorry for bad english

  • Thank you so much! hope this works!

  • this is so confusing, i adjusted springs, i did everything, and my retarted bridge still falls back into the body

  • dude this helped a lot. and your accent made it more enjoyable haha

  • I need help! I find it very hard to intonate my floyd rose guitar and to tune it from, for an example, standard E to drop C takes looong time and alot of work. But if i get another guitar i will miss my whammy bar. So I winder it there is some kind of effect pedal you can use as a whammy bar with the same quailty sound as if i had used a real one.

  • Thanks dude!

  • This is an overly complicated way to do it, but good guide for beginners.

  • dude thanks i just got a kramer stricker 211 with a floyd and you just solved all my problems i was going to take it to a shop and have themfix it but now i dont have to thank you so much

  • Comment removed

  • I have a question please someone answer. If I usually play in standard E tuning, but I want to play a song in drop D, could I not just remove the locking nut, tune the 6th string down and put the locking nut back on? Or would I have to readjust the bridge tension?

  • @Sonatafan309 Normally yes you would have to adjust the tension, buuut there's an easier solution with tthe evh d tuner..look it up on guitar center or something. they're a great little piece

  • Thanks!

  • Thank you very much for the video, I found it very helpful. And do not apologize for your German accent ............. you'd have to see me speaking English with my Spanish accent!.

Greetings from Spain and Best to You

  • thank you! I had no Idea I was a spring shy for my .12 gauges. I had a friend of mine show me this process, and he got it setup nice with only 3. also, the accent is very easy to understand since your english is so well!

  • whats your guitar model no.

  • Thank you so much for this tutorial, I'm getting a Schecter Jeff Loomis FR guitar soon and I was worried about the floyd rose, but you absolutley helped me on this one.

  • No worries, the accent i only hot.

  • Can someone please tell me the price of a Floyd rose and how much it will cost to install it in your guitar..

  • ...top man, thanks for the info, very helpful ...

  • top man thanks for the info...

  • PUKKELPOP :D

  • Very nice!!! I love the spoon trick! And don't mind that your German! Rock on!

  • wait, what if i only want to tune it? like a different tune?

    how do i do?

  • Awesome riff at 3:40

  • I HATE THIS FUCKIN' SISTEM!!!

  • where can i get a spoon?...does it have to be a tea spoon, or dessert spoon?....does it have to be a special 'ibanez' spoon.....could i eat sausages whilst changing strings?...should i smash my guitar into my cats face.... :)

  • @100roberthenry No, you first need to pull the spoon out of your ass before removing your head. Next breath fresh air and only then you possibly might comprehend the simple things in life. Good luck, you'll need it.

  • @stevenmiles thanks for the reply:. ok i'll try that, so let me get this straight, first i need a spoon?...and my arse etc, but how do i ......oh i got it now, i eat the sausages first, then put the spoon up my butt, then i play the guitar with the tip of my nob, then move to strassbourg....gotcha.... it worked...yay!......i now live in strassbourg with an ibanez thats in tune, and my cat never had to suffer a thing..great!...thanks. :P

  • @100roberthenry

    ROFL!

  • @100roberthenry smash it into your cat im not a cat smell lover

  • @LetArtsLive yeah tried it out, he prefered the floyd rose spoon up his butt though...

  • @100roberthenry haaa the spoon will scratch my honey. i have a floyd on my jackson what a pain to string and set up and keep in tune.I just blocked mine with really hard wood from an old chair....peace...dan

  • @100roberthenry LOL!!!!!

  • @100roberthenry nice one i nearly shat myself laughing

  • @SuperScott421 ha ha, that won't affect your trem though.... :)

  • i just changed my strings from 10-46 to 10-60. But it seems i need a extra spring in the back. Now the bridge is totally lifted upward. Does anyone know if its bad for the guitar (the wood or the bridge) if i leave it like that a couple day since the guitar shop is for a few days now?

  • @ivotaku if the tremolo is not paralell whith the body its always bad for your tremolo system. I don't know how do they say it in english, but in a longer time it will kill the knives of the tremolo.

  • @atkakiss666 Thanks for your answer. I bought a extra spring and everything is no set up fine. But what do you actually mean with ''knives of the tremolo''? And wouldn't there be any problem with the wood too? els i would ask someone to check it for me.

  • @ivotaku Watch this video, i think it will help you!

    youtu.be / j27YtrOdf1o

  • @ivotaku Just delete the spaces, when you copy the url! Under knives i mean those sharp parts of the tremolo, which is next the screws of the action level stuff. sorry, bad english :D

  • @atkakiss666 that was a clear video. Thanks for all help =]

  • Fine, but unfortunately the kid below my post thinks that he just has to follow your restringing instructions and he can save $75. for a set-up.

He may not even understand what a real set-up is, but now he has the complete wrong idea because you've mislabeled your video. He may think all he has to do is install strings... and poof... his guitar is set-up.

Please consider changing the title of your video for everyone's sake!

  • i love the ascent

  • This isn't a set-up. This video only shows a restringing technique, and that's all.

A proper set-up typically includes everything from setting the intonation and truss rod, pup height, saddle radius, fingerboard cleaning and oiling, fret polishing, output jack tightening, and a whole bunch of other things depending on the type of guitar. A Floyd set-up may even included shimming or removing shims from the nut.

DO NOT GET THIS VIDEO CONFUSED WITH A SET-UP!

  • @guitartec We'll this says "Floyd rose set up" so you can kind of assume its a set up of the Floyd Rose, but yeah. Don't confuse this with a normal set up!

  • Thank you sooo much, now I don't need to pay 75 bucks for my Floyd setup when I wanted to change strings or tuning... Why didn't I look it up sooner!?!

  • Kool

  • brilliant. far better than a lot of other efforts ive seen, but spoons can scratch guitar bodies, so I would have used a flat metal ruler with some felt around it. Also, if you dont use the trem, just block it off! adds sustain and resonance

  • very interesting, I learned a lot about string tension as well! Very informative! Thanks!

  • No problem with the accent; you speak better english than I do, and I'm American! lol Checked out your band online. Good stuff.

    Thanks for the tutorial.

  • My string tension seems to be too high. I'm going to give this a go and see what happens :-)

  • @XattackProductions the allen keys that undo the screws on the locking nut and bridge clamps SHOULD come with the guitar. If they don't you can probably get a few at any good hardware stores

  • @nuclear1250 does the floyd NEED to be level? or can i have the end of the backplate a little above body level so i can get higher pitch climbs?

  • @SKAuthenticDank that really is all down to you. It doesn't NEED to be level so if you want to set it up that way so you can raise the pitch more, you can do that easily if you adjust the screws in the spring cavity :)

  • @SKAuthenticDank No, but it will seriously effect your sustain.

  • Can you use something else other than a spoon to keep the bridge level? I'm sort of worried that it will cause scratches on the body of my guitar (which I try hard to keep in good condition). Besides, I don't have a flat spoon.

  • amazing..thank you

  • It's anRG 1570?

  • question here, I never changed strings for floyd rosed guitars, most of the time just acoustic. I bought an Ibanez RG and this is actually the first time changing the strings. I mostly play death metal or thrash and usually low down the tuning to C, so is it good for me to prefer the floyd going up on the guitar level or do I need to set the floyd so that it looks on the same level as the guitar?

  • @inerfalwar557 same level as the guitar for any tuning on a floyd rose.

  • @inerfalwar557 The floating bridge? It must be parallel to the body on the guitar.

  • This video was extremely helpful. Thank you so much for posting it!

  • You get the tools at a hardware store

  • sounds like sam totman from dragonforce

  • thank you seriousley now my guitar doesnt sound like springy farts

  • hey man thanks that helped alot i reallllly aprishiate it!!

  • Hmm, why does my dean Vendetta 1000 (got a rose special) keep getting out of tune? A bit of tremolo use and the string get out of tune even if the blocks on the bridge are tight and the locks on the neck are tight too. What's happening or it's just the Floyd Rose that uses cheap stuff?
