It really has good dynamic properties even at very high speeds (125mm/s). Currently the firmware is the bottleneck, not the mechanics! And this can be updated easily :)

I've been working on RepRap technology way before Makerbot existed. Plus the Cartesian system is completely different from Makerbot. Makerbot has a moving platform, this one has a moving head. But it's also different from the RepRap Darwin and Mendel.

The idea of using wood (we use a more dense type) is indeed inspired by Makerbot. It really makes for nice, hackable machines.

The extruder is different (stepper driven and completely redesigned).
