Umm... You are wrong... It is actually a song written from his partner's point of view, and tells a story about the difficulty of a love restricted by time and separation over distance.
We know this from the lines
"My Happiness
Slowly creeping back now you're at home.
If it ever starts sinking in
Must be when pack up and go"
His partner's happiness is slowly coming back as she is able to spend more time with him. However whenever she begins to feel happy he is back, he has to leave again to tour
the clip is about the relationship between boy and slinky! Boy leaves slinky on train, he misses his slinky, wondering if he'll see it again. Slinky misses boy and makes his way home. Boy gets slinky back and so he's happy!
The song is about someone or something you love being away from you over a period of time, but when they come back into your life, you're happiness comes back!
Yeah sadly these guys didnt make a big mark in the American music industry saying that you call that crap the American Music industry overtaken buy pop songs and rap with over synthed voices has taken the character out of music, this rock/ alt rock is the best and shows the best of rock or alt rock saying that there are some great bands still in the American music industry but the alternative rock bands of the 90's are fading sadly :( Powderfinger are a true example of alt rock
Im an aussie living in london and when they played this on australia day in the pub, my god the fukin roof was raised almost brought a tear to the eye...fukin brilliant!!! god bless Australia
Oh dude i remember hearing this in Art Class in grade 12 and i didnt like the tune the first few times hearing it but it grew on me and whenever i listen to this song i remember being in high school... wow sends a shiver down my spine to remember those junkie slacker dayz..... ive got tears!
actually it's from Brisbane.. the Queensland Rail logo is clearly shown at top center screen at 0:11 and at 0:39 it says 'Roma St' highly likley that it was Partially (atleast) shot in Brisbane...
It was entirely shot in Brisbane. The club they go into is in The Valley. All those red terracotta rooves, classic Brisbane. I think Tinpot1 means the song brings back fond memories of good times he had on Cottesloe beach..
The video was created by Fifty Fifty Films, who created 17 Powderfinger music videos. Directed by Chris Applebaum, produced by Keeley Gould and edited by Jeff Selis. The Courier Mail reported that following the music video's release, slinky sales increased dramatically.
@barretsalegend the name actually came from a neil young song called powderfinger if you search powderfinger the song comes up!! Powderfinger ROCKS :)
oh yeah and i think that this is the greatest video clip eer made. it may be just my opinion but whatever that's just me. ^_^ it was impossible to find a while back and now that you have posted this on here, you are officially a legend. i just wish it were possible to get it on dvd. (unless there is a dvd that i am not aware of) The best thing I like about powderfinger is that they are simple, honest to god alternative rock. they get straight to the point. i love it.
FYI - Powderfinger's new album "Dream Days at the Hotel Existence" is coming out in the USA on Nov 11th. Keep spreading the word about this wonderful rock band from Australia!

IMO, Rock 'died' at the turn of the millennium, as corporate greed took over and cookie-cutter faux-rock 'bands' flooded the airwaves.
Bands like this, Our Lady Peace (Canada) and Red Hot Chili Peppers (US), Metallica (US) are becoming the exception rather the norm - unforetunately.
Party-on Wayne! Bring on the re-vival!!
