The captain was a jerk! First of all he was showboating, then he abandons the ship, then he constantly lies about what happened. Did he really think they'd believe he was catapulted out of the ship and just "happened" to land in a lifeboat??? Come on!

it seems confirmed that the captain of the cruise ship (a Neapolitan) was playing the peacock, parading very near to the coast of the "island of Lilium" in order to be congratulated by the mayor if the island (who had been in past a captain too). eyewitness can confirm that the cruise ship was proceding through the normal course then suddendly turned in direction of the island(!!!)

Ships from the 16th century have sailed this course and never fouled a reef or rocks, I believe the ships systems failed to take the known course or the pilot was completely at fault. It's fortunately nothing like Titanic though, Titanic struck an iceberg on the water so broke in half and sank over a mile down. This ship luckily was near the shore but nonetheless, after being on the cruise myself, pandamonium would have broken out. Sad day for Cruise ships as many will cancel or not book at all.

wow the captain said "it was just an electrical problem." Im sure its procedure in any situation like that to keep everyone calm but at least be as honest as you can. Took them 40 min before they ordered everyone to abandon ship. smh
